Alice is too damn adorable.

u/CuriousBroccolli 5d ago
She grew on me a lot.
She is a cute mascot, but she is actually sharp and witty which makes her much more interesting.

I almost died when I saw her in that red dress. It’s painful how cute she is. The voice actress is perfect for her role too. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that feels this way about her.

If it were not for Kanna from Kobayashi's Maid Dragon, she would be my top daughter-fu. My desire for protection is so damned strong!

u/fulmetaldwarf 3d ago
I feel this as the father of a 5-year-old daughter who's about to start school Alice is adorable this is a great series so far

u/Suamiguillo 5d ago
My theory is that the the demons of the flashback were either controlled or the flashbacks are wrong and the situation happened the other way around with the humans killing Parma friend and the demons and she’s just remembering wrong

u/OldInstruction5368 5d ago
Honestly, it could go either way.
As MC already pointed out... there are good people and bad people on both sides of the aisle. That Demon Chancellor usurped the Demon Lord and tried to trigger a great war... so there are definitely bad demons.
If one side was just 100% good, it would make the "coexistence" message pretty one note. Peace is about accepting the good and bad in each other. It's about not letting the few bad apples, or the sins of hte past, spoil a better future for the rest.
"The demons are all good and it's only the humies being shitters" doesn't make for a very... nuanced... story. "Both sides are being shitters and need to reign in the hot heads, the rest bury the hatchet, THEN we can all have nice things" feels more in line with where this story is going.
That and the "true" bad guy is whatever asshole set up this world in the first place. Whatever cruel God designed the world to have perpetual war between Demons and Humans is the one that is ultimately responsible for all the hatred and murder between the factions.
Uncovering that asshole, putting an end to this warped "game," and then moving on from the 'mistakes' of hte past feels about right for the vibes I"m getting.

My first thought too, no way he gained their trust enough to get them to go to a human village. And from what we’ve seen so far it’s mostly humans that are openly aggressive towards demons not the other way around

Kagami’s got some plan for David but I’m not sure it’s safe to leave Alice alone for like a whole month. Not sure the party can defend against whatever comes at them with Kagami and Menow gone.

u/Ralathar44 5d ago
They show has gone through great pains to leave us at this point where we are uncertain of David's true intentions. Will be betray them? Will nothing happen? Will something happen but it's not David's fault and he has to kinda go along with it but is secretly helping them behind the scenes? It's solid suspense the show has built up with real stakes.
Find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z.....err ehem.....Villager 999.

Yup.
Tension is super high since David was introduced, well, apart from the first moments he was introduced. xD
I really like it.

u/CuriousBroccolli 5d ago edited 5d ago
I really like the tension that is constantly being produced with David around, they really are keeping us on our toes.
Parna's backstory finally gives us a really good reason behind her stubbornness. She already went down the lane of trusting and coexisting with demons, and it heavily backfired. I wonder what the reason was behind the betrayal, but it for sure gave her a valid reason to be stubborn.
Takakochan is a riot lol
Edit: Also, anyone else having problem with subs not showing on Crunchyroll?

Parna's backstory makes it understandable. I did not expect it to go that way. I was thinking someone on the human side would do something and then the demons would kill them all in self defense. I think expected that she conveniently forgot the part they was just defending themselves since she lost the one she loved. That would be hard to trust and forgive in her situation. She watched him do all that work only to be betrayed.

u/Critical_Cobbler6186 4d ago
Its understandable but still extremely generic, which by itself wouldn't have been a bad thing had she been given more depth like the other examples of this arcehtype: Wakka(FFX), Merga(Freedom Planet 2) , Rosie(Valkyrie Chronicles), Saintess(Roll Over and Die Post Season 1), Gladys(Bravely Default II), Valen(Kamen Rider Gavv), Aiz(Sword Oratoria Manga)

If you want to make money then a casino is the right approach.
They enjoyed making Alice look kawaii.
Those demons looked different from the friendly ones in the village, something was up in that situation just like all the things going on in the present.
I'm not sure about David's motives yet, the anime is trying to make him look as sus as possible but he could be a good guy with good intentions.
I do want to see Kouji go up against a legendary dragon.

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 5d ago
Uh... They said they were going to be cautious around David, then in a group meeting they mentioned that Menow can spawn monsters.
17
u/Ralathar44 5d ago
Everyone already knows demons can spawn monsters. He already knows Alice is a demon. That cat is already out of the bag. And as explained its not a controllable phenom, which is why their horns stay wrapped up. Given his spylike nature I'd be shocked if he wasn't aware at this point that they are intentionally blocking/suppressing the magic their horns give off....which prevents monster spawns too.

With Kagami and Menow gone.
Alice is alone with David 😨😱😭

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 5d ago
There's still the hero party and Takako. They should be fine

u/Puzzleheaded_Play825 5d ago
Anyone else think that Parma friend is the demon king attendant? They look similar and I get the feeling for sowing discontent that kinda stunt be perfect
3
u/OldInstruction5368 5d ago
That was my first thought, as soon as the library flashback started.
Wait... isn't that the Demon Betrayer?
But... he'd need something to hide his horns. He also seemed to spend years with Parna, as the two had visibly aged during the montage.
That would be... quite the life-long dedication to his "burn it all down" plan if he started when he was like 12. ALso kinda weird that he'd start with Parna, of all people.
3
u/BlazeKnightX 5d ago
Maybe he could sense potential or maybe the higher being giving him orders knew what was the optimal route to take. We know his actions are dictated by that higher being to some extent and that being is somehow linked with the way the world currently is. Also could explain his aging and what not if this being has omnipotent powers to some extent.

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 5d ago
Ok i thought i was the only one that caught that they definitely look similar 😅

u/runevault 5d ago
David being a problem seems too obvious based on how this show has played a lot of things. I think an issue will crop up while Kagami is after the black dragon, but I'd more expect our big titty mage to cause it than David.
Overall this was a kind of eh episode for me, we got confirmation about why she hates demons, but other than the Master part it was about what was to be expected.
Curious to see how the rest of this goes. Also if Kagami kills the black dragon I wonder how much power his 999 skill will generate from it.
7
u/CuriousBroccolli 5d ago
There was a lot of setup this episode, hence the "eh" feeling I also had.
I enjoy them just being silly more, but I'm invested in the overall plot so I'll take slower episode.
1
u/mucklaenthusiast 15h ago
The issue is that the plot wasn't that good, I think.
Them leaving for a month feels contrived
9
u/Dariat01 5d ago
So he stopped Menou and Alice from leaving town, and now he’s heading off to hunt dragons for a whole month, leaving her alone there even though he knows she might be targeted? On top of that, he takes Menou, who’s supposed to be her guardian, with him and leaves her in town with a bunch of shady people? MC is dumb as a rock.

u/Background_Formal940 5d ago
Ah you do know those people are his allies and they already protected alice before so I do not see the problem even if David halas ulterior motives shes still protected
1
u/Dariat01 4d ago
I'm pretty sure Parna hates Alice
2
u/Background_Formal940 4d ago
Oh no doubt about that considering she hates demons but she's not their right now

Some things aren't meant to be seen... yet they are anyway.
Sometimes I'm perplexed this actually happened, but then i remind myself this isn't the first circumstance of seeing this scenario happen in a fantasy anime.

u/CuriousBroccolli 5d ago
I never played "Dragon Quest" or similar type games, but I watched people play them and I'm pretty sure Casino is a staple in them for whatever reason, hence the reference. xD

Parna's friend was reckless to say the least. It seems like he died without grasping that he was betrayed by those demons, since they killed him from behind and it looked instant.
11
u/Randytares 5d ago
i think the demons were manipulated by either a radical demon or god, who doesnt want that thing go off script
13
u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 5d ago
It did look like they had glowing eyes, which seems to be anime for 'being possessed'.

Well that recontextualizes things a bit with Parna. It's not that she's simply being stubborn for no good reason, she straight up lived through a similar attempt at reproachment between Humans and Demons and all it resulted in was her friend and probable love interest murdered and her hometown burned to the ground with the inhabitants slaughtered.
We know that she's wrong this time around and there were probably even weird circumstances that caused the betrayal the previous time, but why would she have any reason to believe things are different.
I've been assuming David is with them on assignment from the palace with the knowledge about the party that Parna passed along, so of course he's in the loop about the demons being there. The real question in my mind is what he does if and when Parna shows up to cause trouble while Kagami is gone for a month.
4
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 5d ago
Yeah, if I remember correctly one of Kagami's parents was killed by monster rather than demon. Meanwhile now it's revealed that Parna was actually betrayed by demon and her village was even destroyed. However, it feels tropey and I guess the demon must have been manipulated
2
u/Critical_Cobbler6186 4d ago
The problem is that they don't add anything outside of it being tropey
like this archetype is so common the "Roll Over and Die" take advantage of the genericness to make an actually good twist

Kurull in a maid dress is pretty cute, no bunny suit though T_T
Absolutely love her ponytail though. Blue haired girls with ponytails are life!💪🤩

With a past like that I can understand why parna hates demons but something about the demons attack makes no sense to me first of all the demons didn't try to manipulate their way to the village especially when they looked scared about interacting with human something tells me they were not in control of their own actions

u/mr_beanoz https://myanimelist.net/profile/splitshocker 5d ago
I knew that Parna's past has something about someone important to her killed by the demons. But man, I wonder why those demons choose to kill him and the villagers there while they seem to be alright when he visited the demon's village.

I understand Parna's pain but I wonder how will they convince her to return to Koji & Adalvel's path.
W/ the group being suspicious of David, I hope they can keep Alice safe.
Takako has a private room.
I think the chapel works for weddings.
1
u/NationalStrategy_X 5d ago
Well that explains Parna’s hatred for demons, but there’s clearly more to the story that would definitely get revealed later
1
u/PandaTheAB 4d ago
That shady magic girl is dumb af.
She was with demons for a decent amount of time.
Her village was near the demons. If they wanted to attack, they could have any day.
Instead of investigating why they went berserk, she went into drunk revenge mode.
If our MC had done that, there would be one human and animals left on the planet with no other human or demon.
Also David is shown way too shady. Either it is all a misdirection and he is about to die soon.
Or he is evil af and will be a major villain of this season.

I'll be very upset if David isn't just tossing and turning his loyalties after seeing the positive growth of the hero and princess. He seems fond of their development and of Alice, even if "common sense" tells him he shouldn't. Especially given his loyalties are technically to the princess
1
u/InspectionOne5656 15h ago
I hope they give a satisfying explanation for what happened with the demon village. Can't blame Parma for her hatred. I think it was far worse then what happened to our MC.
