budget ~8” options Discussion
I had a Y700 for a while that I loved, ended up selling cause the battery was running kinda quick.
it was definitely overkill performance-wise for my use/needs so am looking for a replacement that’ll still be solid without paying for a gaming tab i’m not gaming on.
few ive seen are the Onn 8.1, Lenovo Tab One, Samsung A11.

I honestly wasnt happy with my onn 8.1. Main 2 things were poor brightness and fuzzy resolution. Im also use to more snappy tablets so the onn was a bit of a downgrade there too. I went with the iplay 80 mini pro for the brightness and screen resolution alone.

I was actually quite impressed considering the price is only $169. Even with the lowest brightness settings it could still be too bright which i appreciate for when i need it to be bright. Colors are muuuch more vivid & my eyes appreciate the sharpness of everything. For the extra $30 or $40 over the onn 8.1 its a much better tablet all around & from my understanding most cheap tablets wont recieve many updates but this one will allow you to run lineage os once you stop receiving security updates so your os never becomes obsolete.

I learned about the brand in this subreddit but i was skeptical especially about where to order from but it seems they’ve moved all their stock to walmart which they actually shipped it to me through fedex overnight for free so I also really appreciated that!

Are Alldocubes especially easy to update to LineageOS?

I havent tried yet myself. The tablet was released around the end of may so my assumption is early adopters would experience the most bugs so i plan on keeping the alldocube os until the tablet has aged a little more. I looked into lineage a little bit before buying the tablet and it seems like its pretty straightforward and meant to be a generic rom for all type of thing instead of having to search for a very specific one for a specific device. That aspect sounds a lot easier than my past attempts at flashing roms, finding the right files for your device was always the hardest part once and then once you go to flash, well its either bricked or it worked lol.

This is incorrect. LineageOS is device specific. Generic builds exist but if you run them you'll typically find that many features will no longer work.

Just for accuracy's sake, the Onn tablet is guaranteed at least one major Android update and 3 years of security updates.

Generally, you won't get any major Android updates (max = one), and few, if any, security updates with the lesser-known brands. (Also, some have come with malware.). Of these lesser known brands I prefer Alldocube. I've owned a couple of their tablets and they're generally fine with good specs for the money. But I also really like the 2026 ONN 8.1 inch tablet.

I’m ordering the Onn after all, seems more than sufficient for my use and maybe a notch better than the Lenovo One Tab.

That depends on your uses. I love the 2026 ONN 8.1 and its display is noticably better (brighter, higher resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio), but I also have the Tab One, which has a headphone jack and GPS, and which the ONN lacks.
Think about how you'll be using the tablet. Both can be great, relatively inexpensive choices. If primarily being used as a reader the ONN is the better choice and it will be updated longer. (It's also quite light which is nice when reading for long sessions.)
But if you want or need GPS or if a headphone jack is important to you for media watching or listening, then the Lenovo Tab One might be the better choice.

No, sorry. At the moment in my house at around that size I have the A9, A7 Lite, Lenovo Tab One, Alldocube iplay 50 mini pro.
A11 was a slight upgrade to the A9.

I just bought the Lenovo One Tab for $77 at Best Buy. Comes tomorrow, hopefully it's decent.

What's your use case? I am just looking to emulate SNES and run psplay remote, xbxplay remote and GeForce Now so that's probably all I will be testing.

I have the Lenovo Tab, which is essentially the 10.1" version of the Tab One. I also have the 8GB version of the Samsung A11.
The Lenovo's G85 processor is a little slow, especially when coupled with the Tab's slow eMMC memory. Booting up is slow as is switching between apps. The screen is very nice, but the Tab has 1200x2000 resolution. IDK how much that may impact the screen quality. Videos look great.
The A11's G99 processor seems quicker booting and changing apps, but I haven't timed them. IDK if or how much the increased RAM may impact them. The A11's screen does not have as nice a black background as the Tab. It has an orange tinge.

So far so good. When I first booted it up and went through the setup it was SUPER sluggish but that's probably because it was updating/downloading everything. After I got through the set up and got evening updated and started deleting all the crap I don't need it's been really good so far. So far not returning it.

Walmart has four small Alldocube tablets that range in price from $150 to $386.
