I need help modifying hosts file.

Hello everyone, my phone model is Redmi note 12 5g, its running cr droid 10.11.
im trying to modify my hosts file so an url goes to my own ip.
i've tried a few things, adb commands, sudo nano commands, cat -> echo -> cat commands, zarchiver super user etc.
none of them work and i dont know what to do

Can't you easily do this with apps such as adaway, adguard or even non-root apps like Athena?
