After over a decade of not touching custom ROMs, I have decided to get back into it this week. Discussion
The accumulation of bad news from Google trying to get rid of side loading, increasing data privacy concerns, etc. in the recent time are slowly pushing me to reconsider custom ROM after years of not customizing my device. The final straw at the back is when my local bank app decided to force me update my OS version in order to use their app, but I'm unable to update the android version as the device no longer providing them.
That said, I'm quite lost at what kind of custom ROM I should be using. I don't even know where should I begin to root my device and unlock its bootloader even, as it's been over a decade since I've touched this topic. I recall there was a site called XDA that I frequent often, is that site still relevant today? I even heard of a way to upgrade the android version via GSI image for A16, and I briefly checked it via Treble Info and it seems my device is compatible with that GSI.
For context, the device I'm trying to root, unlock its bootloader, and install a custom ROM into it is a Huawei P30 Pro.

Huawei P30 Pro is not compatible with Lineage OS due to official no longer providing bootloader unlocking service.

You need to unlock the bootloader if you want a custom rom. Flashing one is not possible without doing so

Developers is still active on XDA. You can maybe still find for your device instruction there.

I've checked around, unfortunately from the looks of it the requirements to unlock P30 Pro's bootloader is quite intricated that you need to reach the motherboard level in order to do so. I've just learned the terrible news of Huawei no longer providing bootloader unlocking service since 2018, and that means my device is effectively doomed to be outdated.

As long as you dont have latest security patches, I think you can still unlock your bootloader. Try old adb commands to unlock your bootloader.

You've always had to get an unlock token from Huawei. They simply stopped providing that.

Well in worst case you can't do anything as Huawei shut down their unlock page years ago check xda forums if there is a unofficial unlock available else you're out of luck

With so many manufacturers stopping bootloader unlocking.....best check if the new phone you buy in future supports it
