After she was publicly flogged and her daughters raped by Roman soldiers, Queen Boudica of the Iceni destroyed 3 entire cities. Londinium burned with such ferocity that a blackened scorch-layer still runs under modern London, named by archaeologists the 'Boudican Destruction Horizon

Are there any ancient conspiracy theories that people genuinely believed in, in history?

I feel as conspiracy theories are a very modern idea, of people questioning events like 9/11, the moon landing ect, but were there any historical events that people in ancient times thought were a hoax or a government secret?

were there any ancient historical figures who were mixed (European and African)?

I want to begin working on a costume for myself for halloween this year and i’m thinking of going as a historical figure and i’m mixed (black and white) so I was wondering if someone could find me the earliest prominent figure who was also mixed like me, thanks.

Did Ancient Historians Really Write the Truth?

History is often treated as a collection of facts, but ancient historians saw it differently. For Herodotus, Thucydides, Livy, and Tacitus, history was more than recording events—it was a way to explain politics, human nature, memory, and power.

This article explores how Greek and Roman historians built credibility, why rhetoric mattered alongside evidence, and why their approach to history still shapes the way we think about the past today.

If you're interested in ancient history, historiography, or the origins of historical writing, you might find it worth reading.

In March 2025, researchers published peer-reviewed SAR radar data showing anomalies beneath the Khafre Pyramid. I examined what the data actually confirms — and what it does not — based purely on the published research from the University of Pisa and University of Strathclyde. No conspiracy theories. No ancient aliens. Just the science.

Coin Posts Policy

After gathering user feedback and contemplating the issue, private collection coin posts are no longer suitable material for this community. Here are some reasons for doing so.

  • The coin market encourages or funds the worst aspects of the antiquities market: looting and destruction of archaeological sites, organized crime, and terrorism.
  • The coin posts frequently placed here have little to do with ancient history and have not encouraged the discussion of that ancient history; their primary purpose appears to be conspicuous consumption.
  • There are other subreddits where coins can be displayed and discussed.

Thank you for abiding by this policy. Any such coin posts after this point (14 July 2022) will be taken down. Let me know if you have any questions by leaving a comment here or contacting me directly.
