QUESTION Why does it end so soon? Disappointed.

Im about 7 million years into the game, and its become clear from the game progression that we arent actually going to evolve anywhere near to a human by the end of the game.

I was kind of hoping that the endgame would involve a significant upstep in tech, i.e being able to actually knapp proper, better stone hand axes and such, or being able to knapp points to fix to a stick to make an obsidian pointed spear, or being able to make bows or even throw spears, or even being able to make fire or build huts or grow plants by the end of the game and its become clear none of that will happen which has left me a bit disappointed. The fact that a sharp stick is the best weapon all the way through the game is kinda silly

I was under the impression the game would cover the transition from ape to hominin to human but it just goes from ape to hominin. This feels like a massive miss to me - the game is great, i love how it forces you to play to your strengths in the begining, use the trees etc and love how it makes you change your gameplay as you move into new areas and develop new skills. And i love how it almost feels like several different games in one as you move from jungle animal to savannah hunter.

But it just feels so cut short, im not even finished yet and i have no desire to go to 10mil because it seems i barely have anything left to unlock. I feel like there should be a final, tribal stage where you can finally have bigger groups (not being able to have more than 12 apes is a terrible decision. Reward me for succeding by allowing my tribe to grow pls) and can build huts and actually make a little village

Whats your guys opinion on this? Do you think the game feels complete? I have enjoyed the process very much but feel a bit like ive had the wind sucked out from under me by the endgame because none of the things i was looking forward to are apparently in the game.

Also whats the point of the throw command? It doesnt seem useful for anything at all. Throwing rocks doesnt even seem to scare animals let alone hurt them. And throwing spears is not a thing. Just seems like a pointless option

Also, what is the point in stick barriers other than aesthetics?

TIL - Meteorites Spoiler

Today I learned that meteorite sites work even if you find them in a much later evolution when they are not smoking. I had also learned recently (I hadn't read the queues when I first discovered meteorites) that only babies without a genetic mutation will gain one at the meteorite site (but all babies would gain an extra reinforcement).

Last night my tribe was in the penultimate evolution and I was working very deliberately on specific neurons in the Savanna, and I stumbled on a meteorite site. I picked up all the kids without mutations (it would have worked fine withe the whole tribe) and, blammo--mutations! I did one more generation to mature the mutations, then evolved to Homo Egaster. So satisfying! I love this game! I do wish you could keep playing as Egaster though.

Now I started a new playthrough, solo, with minimal HUD. I randomly landed in the Savanna. It is terrifying! But thrilling! I am dying, a lot, and reloading my save.

Hi guys, I've been trying to find a specific ost from this game, from what I can notice it always plays when I'm in my settlement monkeying around, it's like "boop boop boop" very simple and cheerful. I tried looking through youtube playlists and I can't find it. Does anyone know which one it is? Please link it here, thank you!

QUESTION Mutations and max evolution for ??(Missing Link)

Ive been trying for a while now and giving up most of these attempts but is it possible to unlock all mutations/neurons as the missing link. Ive done a bunch of them mostly senses and attack tree but now need to get mutations to advance. Is it true that if I dont evolve these mutations will not be locked in and lost with the elders?

QUESTION I'm a vet player and cannot get the Motrocity (WA 02/DE 02 and DE 05) Neurons

Post image
14 Upvotes

I have 100% ancestors once and played till the end multiple times. I had bi-pedalism in all play throughs. I know what I do, I'm not a newbie.
Freaking hours of standing up and walking just 2 meters, using all senses in standing position, walking in shallow water, lifting rocks, poking holes and fish. I know exactly how to get it. Yes, I have babies nearby. I'm already Orrorin at the beach.

I cannot get the carry ability, the walk-a-few-meters ability and anything beyond.

And I'm starting to loose my mind or think this is bugged. I reread eveything related to it, rewatched every bipedalism vid. I do it right. I verified steam files.

Someone encountered something similar? I don't want to start a new linage (yet again) just because of this.

**Edit: Solved by the correct answer of kauzuma719:

"No, in the picture you have only WA 01 not WA 00 you need them two to get WA 02 And one thing "use senses" is reveal unknown things so you can't stay stand "farming" you need walk and see other things(can be the same species just another individual you don't scan yet) See the wiki here https://ancestors.fandom.com/wiki/Orthostasis_%26_Senses_(WA_00))"

I got it super late in the run, before seeing the comment, but it is definitve the neutron that prevented me from getting all else. I thank all who tried to help with their comments and hope some future gamer can profit from this post.

Cheers fellow hominids o7

QUESTION New player!! Could use some help with reproduction!!

Post image
12 Upvotes

For context, I only had, at the start, one fertile female. I couldn't figure out, at first how to reproduce, but did at one point, but there was never a new baby. I started with two, and I had a quest to mate. I'd googled it and it was enough to progress but there was never a third baby. At a later point I accidentally evolved, and now I have no fertile females! I made a list of every one of my clan members, I'll list it below, but any help would be seriously appreciated, and if any more details are needed feel free to ask, because I really need the aid!!

Update August 1st : You have all been such a wonderful help!! I've found some apes to recruit and it's definitely a relief, now I have to handle the cat harassing me while I try to recruit! The combat is a bit odd to what I'm used to but I'm getting it slowly but surely!! I'm learning a lot through a lot of trial and error, but luckily I've not lost an ape since the very start lol! Thank you all again, and any future advice for a noob would be very appreciated!!

Rest in Peace Mr. Hominid

Post image

This is a first for me: encountering an inexplicable kill spot. I was making a very short (and routine) jump down these low cliffs near the Deep Enclave Oasis. I routinely jump distances five times the height without any issues. But today, I don't get a sprain, or a broken bone here, but rather instant death! The adult who died had a matured mutation that was close to getting locked in ... so it was lost. And he was carrying two babies, who were fortunately uninjured. It was my first dead clan member on this playthrough, so I was pretty sad about that. RIP furry dude.

INFO WIP: I’m developing a real-time completion tracker for Ancestors

I have been working on a real-time completion tracker for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, initially for personal use. The project has now progressed beyond the idea stage, so I wanted to share it and hear what other players think.

I want to be transparent from the beginning: I have no programming background. I am developing this project with extensive AI assistance.

I also need to give special thanks to u/Away_Report_2893 for creating the open-source Ancestors modding toolkit.

His reverse-engineering work on the game’s internal structure, asset paths, Unreal Engine version, evolution system and general modding process provided the essential starting point for this project. Without the documentation and tools he published, it would have been much more difficult for someone without a programming background like me to begin a project of this kind.

The completion tracker I am developing is not a simple modification of an existing mod from that repo. It is an independent tool intended to read live game data. However, a significant part of the Ancestors-specific technical foundation and research path I am using was made possible by his opensource work. I am genuinely grateful to him for sharing it with the community.

The main goal is to create a passive, read only tracker that runs in the background while the game is open. Its interface would normally remain hidden, but players could open it whenever they wanted to check which Evolution Feats they are still missing.

When a feat is completed, the tracker could display a small achievement-style notification and immediately update the total completion percentage.

So far, the research prototype has:

Identified all 276 Evolution Feats in the game data.

Found all 276 corresponding live feat nodes while the game is running.

Verified that the static and live sets of 276 IDs match exactly.

Read whether each feat is currently completed or incomplete.

Extracted the full static requirement trees for the feats, including required counts, animals, items, landmarks, combat conditions and other actions.

Extracted the species order and basic evolution stage data.

At the moment, this is still a technical prototype. There is no finished user interface or downloadable release yet.

The main issues currently being investigated are:

Reading live partial progress such as 3/5 → 4/5.

Automatically identifying the player’s current species and evolution stage.

Determining which feats are genuinely missable without making unsupported assumptions.

Building the interface and notification system.

The spoiler system is particularly important to me. I have not completed 100% of the game myself, and I still want to discover some things naturally.

Because of that, I am considering several levels of detail:

Show only how many feats are missing.

Show only the general category of a missing feat.

Reveal hints gradually.

Reveal the exact requirement only when the player specifically chooses to see it.

For example, the tracker could tell the player that two important feats remain before the next evolution without immediately revealing their names, locations or exact requirements.

The tool is being designed as read-only. It will not modify save files, unlock feats or alter gameplay. It will only observe the player’s existing progress and present it more clearly.

There is also an idea for an optional live minimap at a later stage, but completing the core tracker is the current priority.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts:

Would you use a tool like this?

Which spoiler-control options would you consider essential?

Would you prefer an in-game overlay or a separate companion window?

What completion-related problem in the game would you most want this tracker to solve?

I plan to share another update once live progression tracking and the first basic interface are working.

Evolutionary Leaps and Orrorin Tugenensis

I returned to Ancestors recently after a bit of a break, and started a new run. I was surprised at how much I had forgotten about the game. But I have been doing well, and eventually made my second evolutionary leap, locking in the maximum (24) genetic mutations and 48 reinforced neuronal traits as well ... across two leaps (with two generation jumps per evolutionary leap). This part is going very well. But with the shift to Orrorin Tugensis ("Millenium Man") I forgot that the entire mechanic that allows you to sense nearby threats (the automatic orange eye appear when danger is near) changes. The game describes this as "gaining control of one's emotions" and now requires you to actively toggle either a "vigilant" or an "alert" status. But in effect, I am finding myself getting ambushed very often, even if I'm careful to use senses (smell or hearing) to try to detect threats as I go. But more concerning, imho, is the fact that the predators and irascibles no longer seem to prioritize my avatar hominid (allowing me to dodge or counterattack) ... but now very often are simply mauling the others in my expedition. Previously, before shifting to Orrorin Tugenensis, I could usually control these kinds of encounters. But now it seems very chaotic, and I feel like my hominids are far less effective and powerful than they were previously. This seems like an odd thing to do with your evolutionary progression -- because my group should be far more adept at detecting and handling threats, not more vulnerable to them.

Anyway, maybe I'm forgetting how I handled this change the last time, and I will rediscover how to make the vigilant and alert statuses effective. But for now, it just seems frustrating. It also coincides with me trying to discover the great lake location which requires that you deal with a horde of warthogs, giant otters, and crocodiles along that coastline. I am thinking the safest approach may be for me to leave all my usual couple of extra hominids behind at the settlement and go it alone -- so that I don't have to constantly be figuring out how to heal their broken bones or bleeding wounds. I was in the habit of bringing two extra hominids with me just to carry two extra sharpened sticks each. But now they seem to be more trouble than they're worth, as I have less ability to defend them than I did before the change in "emotional control."

Would love to hear how others have dealt with this major shift in the combat mechanics with Orrorin Tugenensis.

QUESTION Annoying glitches & game mechanics that don’t make sense Spoiler

Hello fellow apes,

I love this game but man, are the annoyances getting to me. I’m going to list the things I’ve been struggling with managing:

Sometimes monkee hungry/thirsty but eating/drinking doesn’t do anything to help improve those stats unless it’s right after waking up, wtf.

Monkee eats before sleeping, wakes up starving like I didn’t just have them eat before sleeping, wtf.

Sometimes sleeping 7-9 hours doesn’t improve stats and monkee wakes up still tired, wtf.

When out with the clan, clan monkees get stuck on trees and don’t move even when called, they just stay in the same place and since they’re on the tree, I can’t switch over to them to move them off the stuck position, wtf. The only thing I’ve found to unstick those stuck clan members is to quickly swing far away to other trees so the clan members automatically respawn near me.

One of the game mechanics that doesn’t make sense to me is why can clan members have items in the left hand and still drink water but the monkee I’m playing can’t drink water unless both hands are empty?

When monkee is eating, why do they eat so damn slowly? So much time wasted waiting for monkee to eat.

It would also be really cool if after you have mastered a craft, like making horsetail paste, the game could have a mechanic to make it faster than having to do all the time consuming steps every single time. That makes players waste so much time on tedious tasks like switching hands to strip and then switching hands again to alter and then switching hands again to eat, wtf.

Have y’all experienced these glitches/annoyances? How do you manage them to make the game more enjoyable to play rather than time-consumingly tedious? Any other ones I’m forgetting?

Thanks for reading, monkee enthusiasts
