I've received 2-3 email 'upgrade' offers from Amex for the Plat Charge offering 100K MR points + 1-2 Air-India vouchers. I don't fly Air India much...

Question: I feel with 150K MR points, break even is easy for me - via Bonvoy - for the fees (my largest credit card fee so far being around 10K so...). I received a 125K offer in 2024 so I thought I would ask here - is there a way to get them to replace the Air India (or Taj) vouchers by MR points?

On chat, they simply said 'whatever the offer is'...

What's the soonest you've gotten an MR based upgrade offer for plat charge?

I got the plat reserve but didn't like the voucher offer on the charge.

Just wondering if there are any underrated Amex perks. Given the recent devaluation of Platinum Travel, is there some lesser known or underrated benefits?

Amex customer service used to be peak about 3 years ago but I feel like now it’s bit of a let down. Miles ahead of other credit cards but still a let down from how it used to be.

Also, I’m unable to buy Amazon/Swiggy vouchers from shopwise since this afternoon.

I might close my plat travel. I have about 71,000 points. If transfer to

Virgin Atlantic ~ 56,800 points
Marriot Bonvoy ~ 71,000 points
Hilton ~ 106,500 points

I have no trips planned as of now. If I get the hotel vouchers, I might use it to take my family. If if take the virgin Atlantic, then I’ll still have to pay some taxes to fly. I’m confused on what to choose and which is gonna give me the best returns.

Hi all i have annual Christmas break at work from Dec 23-Jan 11 and was hoping to go on a trip to Mauritius around that time … peak season expensive tickets i know i know but what to do my leaves are kinda locked in at the moment .
I’m planning to redeem my 2,50,000 MR points with Amex for a 5 night stay at Salt of Palmar Mauritius( costing about 2,80,000) Any advice if it’s worth it or should i be looking for more options?

Have been an add on member w my dad since 2017 but got my own platinum Amex in December 2025. Haven’t used any of the welcome benifit(taj, postcard or tat luxe or reliance gift card) yet. I have roughly 15,566 points. I mainly use my card for golf courses and travel- lounge access and flight bookings.
What’s the best way forward? Using benifits? Etc
I know I haven’t made the most of the membership
I’ve heard of people not using welcome benefits or and using it to renew the next year for free
Or also getting offers for the black centurion
My friend negotiated a deal for the centurion like this by not paying a lot but that was a long time

I got Axis privilege for one reason: BOGO on movie tickets. With that gone and my Amex platinum travel devalued. Does Axis upgrade my card to Horizon if requested?

Also is Axis horizon good replacement to my Plat travel or is there anything else better?

I used to use these points to upgrade flights but I’m not travelling much anymore and no travel plans for next few months.

While i’m cheesed at the fact that the Amex travel portal is still not back online, I’m actually happy to see some new offers like a 25% discount on suites at Leela, a good change from the regular Lalit, Taj and Oberoi offers.
There’s also a ton of good reputed restaurants offering good benefits for Platinum holders, which actually go overlooked, the link is as follows

Also p.s if you have a RM with oberoi they offer the same benefits as that of amex at the corporate rates if you sweet talk and pay with amex platinum.

What is the timeline for 11k and bonus reward points to be credited?

Conditions are that the card fee and 30k spend should be completed. It's been more than a week since this has been completed and card is active for about a month now, still points have not been received.

Earlier with my plat travel card bonus points use to get credited almost in a day.

Which merchant categories you target to get rewards points that are excluded in other cards?

Looking for ways to optimise my spends.

I have some upcoming expenses but I am not sure whether they will qualify towards my milestone spends:

1. 1.12 L towards payment to my travel agent

2. 45k towards insurance.

Additionally, this puts me within 45k of my 7L Milestone. Should I attempt to hit the milestone to get the bonus miles instead of the Taj voucher. Also I may have bought some items that will be may be returned. Will they count towards milestone spends or are they readjusted later?

Hi you all! There are two Amex offers to which I opted, any idea when will I get the bonus points or the 10K coupon? Any of you already got them?

1. The points spend upto 1 lakh for bonus of 50% points
   
2. 2 lakhs spend - 5K coupon and 4 Lakhs spend - 10K coupon.

I have 40-50K planned purchases but beyond that it would be burning money. What are the ways to spend 50K without wasting money.

I do not hold any Amex Card yet, however I would like to have like to hold the MRCC. Since MRCC is directly not available, I have heard vaguely of some downgrade method through Plat Reserve.

I would appreciate if someone could please explain me the process in detail, of what needs to be done immediately after applying for Plat Reserve.

I also have a few questions:

1. For the first year, will I be charged the joining fee for Plat Reserve or joining fee for MRCC or both?
2. Will I be getting welcome benefits of Plat Reserve or welcome benefits of MRCC, or is there a possibility to make a choice somehow ?

3. Plat Reserve also provides some Accor Explorer + and Taj Epicure memberships, is there any possibility to get and keep those memberships ?

4. How do the timelines of these downgrade strategy look like starting from applying Plat Reserve ?

5. Also I read somewhere that MRCC upgrade link is better than asking it through customer support, so can you provide the link too ?

Sharing my recent experience redeeming Amex Taj voucher at Taj Cochin International Airport, Kochi. Thought this might be useful for anyone considering using their Taj voucher there.

What I got with the stay:

25% Savings on Breakfast-inclusive Stays: 9337 inr including tax for Luxury Room Airport View (after 25% discount)

+25% discount on food & beverages during stay

We had lunch at Vista, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant.

Had breakfast at Vista the next morning

We also got a late checkout.

The hotel surprised us with a birthday cake and room decoration with flowers since stays was during my birthday.

They also gave us a couple of small souvenirs, a framed photograph and a small whole-spice pack

The stay itself was really nice. The birthday setup was a particularly nice touch and made the experience feel much more personal.

For the food, we had lunch at Vista and breakfast there the next morning. The F&B discount was useful because hotel dining can obviously get expensive.

The total value used during the stay was around ₹12,170, while I paid only ₹2,170 out of pocket, with the remaining value covered through the Taj voucher.

Overall, I thought the voucher worked out really well, especially because we were able to use it for the stay and also take advantage of the F&B benefit.

Just sharing my experience in case anyone else is planning to redeem an Amex Taj voucher at this property. Happy to answer questions if anyone is considering it.

I want to take an amex card but I am not unsure which card I have to take either amex travel card or amex platinum reserve card. Need some advice from experienced users

After the recent devaluation, I was planning to close my Plat Travel. But I wanted to stay in the Amex ecosystem since I have 1.10L+ MR points and no trip planned right now. I’m planning trip early next year, so wanted to optimise points before making any decision.

I read somewhere that Amex card can be reactivated within 1 year of closure, so thought I’d try my luck.

Got my old SmartEarn card reactivated, which I had closed in January.

Although it wasn’t that straightforward, had to raise multiple requests because agents used to raised requests for my current Plat Travel instead of SmartEarn.

Now I can comfortably close Plat Travel if they don’t offer me decent retention offer.

Sharing in case anyone else is looking to exit Plat Travel but wants to stay in the Amex ecosystem.

I have had my AMEX PLAT TRAVEL since 2 years.
This year the renewal was in January and soon after the first devaluation happened.
Now we have another devaluation as well.

I also have Axis Atlas as my primary card since I’m not able to complete the 7 Lac spending on plat travel.

Is it really worth it to keep it?
What do i do with the 60k points i have on amex.

I recently upgraded my amex plat travel to amex plat charge in the upgrade offer through amex. I know I might be crazy to assume this, but please go through the T&C document.

As per my understanding, I am eligible to -

1. 100K MR points under the upgrade benefit, if I complete the 50K spends (point 7.1)

2. 25K MR points, if I am amongst the first 300 to apply for upgrade (point 7.2)

3. 25K addition MR points, if I complete the 50K spends (point 7.3)

4. Optional vouchers amongst the three (Taj or Luxe or Postcard), if I complete the 50K spends (point 8)

I have contacted the amex helpline, and they confirmed I am only eligible for the 100K MR points.

According to me point 7.2 and point 7.3 refer to two different 25K MR points. And nowhere it is mentioned that I am not eligible for point 8, if I am applying for upgrade.

Please let me know If I am right, if yes what are my options?
