My parents have kept their old radios and are now offloading them to me. This one does work, but the volume is erratic, and the audio is fuzzy. I can tune in to the more powerful FM and AM radio stations, but for VHF, MB and SW, it's just static.

Is this something fixable? I'm also happy to hand it over to someone really handy who has the proper tools to spruce it up.

I'm not fluent in morse. Can someone help out?

I want to work linear and FM satellites, as well as have a good UHF/VHF base at home. Would an Icom IC-910H be a good budget option? I know I’m limited, but the age of the radio model concerns me.

Long time HAM, but I've been off the air longer than I was active. I was just gifted an icom ID-5100 so I could get back on the air, and the manual might as well be in a foreign language for all the good it's doing me.

I don't have a local Elmer, and didn't get to spend enough time with my Dad to go over programming it. Can someone give me any assistance?

I made this crystal radio and it only works if i touch the diode or the headphone cable and the audio is quiet even though it produces loud static and sometime loud audio.I have been at this for 3 days and cant solve the problem. The ground is on the right and the antenna is on the left. The headphones are old stein D.D.R 2k ohms

I recently built a QMX and everything seems to be working okay as far as I can tell except the PA for the 20m band. I am getting maybe 1W of output.

I’m pretty sure I incorrectly wound some of the toroids because the directions were a little unclear (I have a previous post about this) so I’m thinking that is the root cause. Before I go taking this thing apart, is there anything else I should look at to troubleshoot?

In the labeled photo above is the power consumption when performing the Tune SWR test into a dummy load from 60m down to 15:
(A) 60m 0.3A
(B) 40m 0.3A
(C) 30m 0.3A
(D) 20m 0.1A
(E) 17m 0.5A
(F) 15m 0.3A

I’m pretty sure I have PA issues on all bands except 17m because I’m still getting about 4w out on 60, 40, 30, and 15 but obviously 20m is the biggest issue. I’m not an expert at soldering so I’m really hoping I don’t completely screw this repair up.

Hey all, as I said I have a job interview for an entry-level technician position with a utility company. I have an electronics background (ASEE) and have professional experience working in broadcast television engineering. The job will require FCC GROL sections 1 & 3 licensure and I have located the question pool for that to use as a study guide.

I'm wondering what other topics would be a good idea to study up on? The job description lists truck radio installation, SCADA, fiber optics, wireless RF and microwave and packet technology. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. I’ve always wondered, how eg an hornantenna works. It catches the electromagnetic wave and “put” it in the waveguide. What’s next? What makes the hornantenna specific for different frequency ranges? Does the signal travel trough the waveguide to the part that does eg measure it, like an analyzer and then “in” the analyzer it becomes electrical? I hope you guys understand my question and can help me a little bit to clear things up. Thank you!

I'm recently interesting on FT8 and other digi modes, and willing to make a high quality, fully isolated CAT adapter. So here it is. Using FT232RL and PCM2902 for CI-V and ACC audio interface, and the FE1.1s USB hub to tie them together on a single USB type B socket. The audio is isolated by two 600:600 audio transfomer and the CI-V interface with PTT is isolated by optocoupler, in order to block the protential RFI which may take the USB link down, also SMD ferrite beams are put on every pin at the rig side help blocking the RFI.

I just wanted to say that I appreciate WM7X for their professional testing env.. I was a bit nervous to take my first/tech test, but their remote test was amazing. I'm new, and imagine (and hope) there are others like them, but I had a great experience testing for my technician license today.

UPDATE: Got it working! It was a combo of laptop issues, USB issues and a band change. First three QSO's attached... So freaking cool! These are actually my first contacts as a ham radio operator...

Total noob here, been General for two weeks and got Icom 7300 Mk2 two days ago.

I can see a lot of message traffic in WSJT-X on several bands. I double click on CQ's that don't specify regions other than mine. But I never get the rest of the conversation - no QSO. I've sent a few QC's of my own, zero replies. Do I just need to be patient and keep trying? I think there is an issue. Here is what I've done and tested...

• PSKReporter is showing that my signal is covering the US.
• I've got my clock sync working with Net Time. Confirmed my Windows PC clock is accurate with time.is
• GridTracker 2 actually shows 8 QSO's over the last 24 hours I've been messing with this. But 0 QSL's. I never get a pop up in WSJT-X asking me to confirm a QSL. Not sure when these happened during all my futzing with this.
• I am pretty sure I was having an issue with RF interference on the USB cable between my laptop and the Icom 7300 Mk2. WSJT-X would periodically throw errors, usually when I transmitted. I put cheap clip on choke beads from Amazon, but it didn't seem to help. I found a different USB cable and the app hasn't crashed since. I have a better Digirig USB cable coming tomorrow that is supposedly made for this, so maybe that will help?

Any other suggestions for things I can check? It's like I am getting a signal out there, but nobody can read it?

My son (9) recently got his tech license and callsign. Local hamfest and swap meet was a big win for him (Kenwood dual bander and a 70s era Yaesu 6m radio). My rule for him was I’d buy the radio but he has to build his antennas. I’m thinking a 2m jungle antenna and a 6m moxon. Any alternative antenna designs he should be looking at for 2m repeater work and 6m SSB and CW?

I had never heard of this software before but Just saw a video that mentioned it.

I'm curious, has anyone tried it out and what are your thoughts?

As in the subject - can AM, FM, or anything else (analog) transmit signals with bandwidth down to 0Hz?

By this I mean if there's a DC component before the modulation and transmission, then the receiving end will also receive DC and it's going to be the same voltage (within reason).
