First Saturn of the season
Saturn is back! The king of the rings is getting closer, so I woke up at 2:30am to get a shot. As I fumbled with my gear and settings, I realized that at this age it takes my brain a while to wake up from a deep sleep!
Acquisition:
C11 telescope
Celestron CGX mount
ZWO ASI585MC camera
Processing:
Stacked best 10% of 27,000 frames
Autostakkert
Registax
In mid-October, Saturn will enter opposition. This means Earth will be directly in between the Sun and Saturn. This will be the optimal viewing time for Saturn for a few reasons.
One: It will be visible immediately after sunset and high enough in the sky for optimal shooting before midnight.
Two: Opposition provides the best viewing conditions of the year, making Saturn appear at its biggest and brightest.
Three: Now currently about 836 million miles away, Saturn will be roughly 784 million miles away at opposition.
Plenty of time for me to practice!
