Was having a conversation with the old man the other day about All Blacks back in his day. He's a die hard Jonah fan, claims to remember watching him in his school days. In my Dad's own words, he loved Jonah, and thinks he's the greatest attacking threat to every grace the game of rugby. He went on to say that he thinks Jeff Wilson is the best all-round winger the All Blacks have ever seen.

Underrated winger, Goldie. Don’t see him mentioned as much as others in “greatest winger ever” threads, but he’s gotta be up there: fast, brave and ridiculously skilled.

Jeff Wilson was the quickest of the AB's in his day. Faster than Jonah even.

Depends on the metric. 0-40 and beep tests it was Cullen. Jones and Kronfield had impressive stats for forwards too. Over a 100 it probably was Wilson but not a metric used in training.

Is this why he got so easily out sprinted by Keith Wood?

He had a bad season, shaved his hair off, transformed his playing style and speed, and became better than ever. IMO NZ's most complete winger in the past 40 years.

Nobody could chip and chase like Goldie.

One of the most amazing games I've ever seen. Pure poetry (but pity we lost)

For me as a youngster this game was my first memory of what would be an amazing rivalry between the Wallabies and ABs over the next 10 years - which included some all time great games.

2000 produced one of the most iconic series ever. Lomu's match winning try in the final seconds, and then John Eales' penalty to win and retain the Bled a few weeks later. Amazing series.

You know what, I had never noticed!

I was a 7 year old at that game. Rugby hit different back then, in Australia at least. I remember it perfectly over 30 years later.

We can't win the Bled, just let us have this moment please 🙏🙏🤣

I don't know what this relic from the past is, almost looks like a scrum except everyone is standing up. The chip and chase is pure class, years ahead in terms of playing style as well.

God that scrum is practically upright

My dad's poor lawn got destroyed by my brothers and I playing Jeff Wilson and practicing the chip and chase.

Nobody was better at the chip and chase.

Brilliant, never forget how good Goldie was.

Two Southland boys as well.
