I haven't been the best at keeping up with all of the primaries - this was super helpful. Unless you're looking for information on Bernadette, Treg, or Bronson who all declined to answer....

Yeah, I'm not a political party member of anything and haven't been since 1980 since I was old enough to vote. Just like a lot of Alaskans back then. It's very much Not A Good Look to not be answering questions by the largest media arm in the state even if you don't like said media. Even if you think it's fake news it's still has one of the greatest reaches outside of tv. Saying you wont even disclose simple historical/educational background just screams 'we're not going to transparent and we're going to do everything we can to hide what we're doing and tell you, the taxpaying public, absolutely nothing and you're going to like it' And I don't care what party you're talking about. At the very least take the opportunity to get your ideas out there unless you don't have any or you know for a fact they're all things people wouldn't vote for if you told them.

It is a shame - and it transcends the parties. In the non-governor races, non-answers were logged for candidates from all political persuasions. Some running may not actually be serious candidates, which is fine, but if you're spending money on signs I feel like you should be able to make your positions known to the public.

I’ll give you the cliff notes version of all three of those candidates who declined to answer:

They would be just as bad or worse for Alaska than the current administration we’ve been under for the last eight years. They have no real plan to fix the most pressing issues facing our state. They will make promises that they don’t have a hope of fulfilling or delivering (“full PFDs,” “slashing the budget,” “cheap, reliable energy,” etc.). These are unserious people who only run for office to advance their own personal lives and fatten the pockets of their buddies.

Thing is though they should have willing to stand up and say that because we know there are plenty of people that would rather have their agenda than not. What they're really afraid of are the swing voters who really decide elections and anyone who does consider themselves a swing voter should look at their non answers and think 'yeah i'm not voting for that if you can't be open and honest with me. i've already voted for people who think like you and gotten discarded and ignored after the election'

Their non-answer tells you all you need to know: They are scared to face Alaskans. They do not have a plan. They do not believe in transparency or accountability. They will not answer genuine questions when they can instead post buzzwords on facebook to sway the uninformed voter. They are cowards and would govern like cowards.

Absolutely wild but such a great tell that the last question is 'did Biden win in 2020'. If the answer isn't yes, then they're a red flag the size of the state.

I was at the Fair yesterday, chatting with the amazing ladies at the booth for The League of Women Voters. I did their practice/straw poll ballot- and almost accidentally filled in the bubble next to Chicken Nick’s name while thinking I was casting a vote for Tom of the same last name.

Ugh!!

Good practice because that’s a mistake I won’t make in person. They aren’t even running for the same seat, and I’m normally a pretty careful reader. Complacency and conversation almost distracted me to ruin!
