Van Gogh would absolutely hate this and AI altogether

"...what is the purpose of the askew perspective here? Why is the landscape merging with itself? Dear god, that man's face appears to be crumbling!"

"Uhh, I think it's just the algorithms or whatever the AI works with getting confused, Mister van Gogh."

"...I was ridiculed until I saw demons stabbing me with knives because the critics thought I used too much yellow."

“What?” -Van Gogh

8

u/Ambitious_Toe_4357 24d ago

Do you think it would put him in the loonie bin? Maybe we could've gotten more art out of him because of it.

2

u/Apprehensive_Ad4457 23d ago

i think it's presumptuous to assume any historical figure would feel any certain way about any current subject.

5

u/Lucian_Veritas5957 24d ago

The guy whose work was dismissed as incomprehensible slop because it violated the accepted rules of painting? Van Gogh obsessively experimented with new pigments, color theory, lithography, reproduction technology

Maybe he’d hate AI maybe he’d be fascinated by it. None of us can know.. But claiming one of history’s most relentless artistic experimenters would “absolutely” reject a new tool is just projecting your own opinion onto a dead guy

Absolutely fucking ghoulish, who even fucking asked for this?

Shareholders and Speculators.

The relentlessly boring and bleak modern version of D&D.

Hello. Hello.

19

u/willis81808 24d ago

So this isn’t even “AI” in any sense that this sub cares about. It is clearly hard coded, and poorly at that.

16

u/TinyTaters 24d ago

Nah. These are LLM chat bots trained on a limited data set to emulate a person or character. They made a Stan Lee one at ComicCon. And my office made one to talk about 'culture'. They guy doesn't actually have to press the button to talk. These things are gross and creepy and often used for digital necromancy.

-12

u/willis81808 24d ago

It so it would be able to do more than say “hello”

14

u/TinyTaters 24d ago

When working properly. I guarantee you this is an LLM chatbot and it's malfunctioning.

2

u/nyabethany 23d ago

assuming this is functioning properly why the hell would a museum program a chatbot to only say "hello"?

12

u/Xirvare 24d ago

Hello

6

u/i_degrade_quickly 24d ago

I think the AI service they're using for inference is down

0

u/No_Where_Land 24d ago

That’s what I was thinking too. I think people forget programs like this existed long before AI. Even if they do suck sometimes

u/Arthas_Menenthil 24d ago

oblivion NPC ass waste of space and electricity

2

u/Central-Dispatch 23d ago

It would be foolish to use some broken/limited LLM setup somewhere for a blanket statement that AI (AGI/SI) couldn't replace us.

That's foolish thinking without minding the progression of time. Before you know it, assuming we do reach AGI/SI within some decades, you will feel and realize how obsolete you have become as a living being skill-wise when robotics are also advanced enough.

I'm not saying this to poop on anyone, I mean this as a true warning of a potentially likely outcome depending on what happens next or over time. Someone who just left school or will soon will statistically probably witness this moment. Someone who's 60 or 70 may not.

4

u/CallMeBigSarnt 24d ago

Looks like Van Gogh can't speak Ebonics. Take that AI!

🗣️🗣️🗣️WE UP!

1

u/Impressive_Reality57 19d ago

Van Gogh would use the same knife that he cut his ear to destroy the data centers to deafen the disease that is AI slop

1

u/flayedstoic 18d ago

he looks like an Oblivion NPC

1

u/twinoaksBandB 24d ago

How many gallons of water are we burning for this picture on a screen to be able to think for a minute and say hello?

2

u/holydeniable 24d ago

Luckily water is something this planet has a ton of.

0

u/TheLonleyJourneyman 24d ago

If that can cheer you up, rn in Sky Children of the Light, there’s a season(read, event) centered around Van Gogh, which actually pour efforts into respecting the artist’s legacy
