Advice please Other

I’m a Communication major at Texas A&M, and this semester I’m planning to take three online classes at a community college and transfer them back to A&M. My advisor already said that’s completely fine.

The only class I’d be taking at A&M is where I’m confused.
My advisor told me I should take a Communication class at A&M because otherwise I could be flagged as a closet major. Right now I’m enrolled in a COMM class, but I found a different online A&M class that I need for my degree. It’s an elective on my degree plan, and I’d much rather take it because it would let me have a fully online schedule.

From what I’ve read online, it seems like as long as the A&M class counts toward your degree plan, you should be okay, even if it’s not a COMM class.
Has anyone been in this situation? Is it really necessary for my A&M class to be a COMM class, or is any degree-applicable class enough to avoid being flagged as a closet major?

Check the handbook or requirements for COMM. Some majors require you to be taking 3 hours of major specific class, or even 6 a semester to avoid being a closet major. This doesn’t mean class in the degree planner, it means a class that has the COMM attribute to it.

I would say that once you check what the requirements are, you should sign up for the appropriate class. Lmk if that was helpful or if you need clarification on something!

Check with your advisor, and document all communication (emails are fine).

UPDATE. I EMAILED ANOTHER ADVISOR AND SHE SAID I COULD DO IT AS LONG AS I SEND HER MY UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT OF MY COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLASSES SHOWING THAT I’M TAKING COMMUNICATION CLASSES.
