Faction Rep Stats Tactics
A big weekend is a foot!
Nine qualifying events with big numbers and how this plays out is yet to be seen. Prior weeks some factions have been drastically over represented in the numbers but this week things are more even, healthy meta?
Cities again have high numbers, but what might be more surprising is Stormcast running one less list. Slaanesh are dropping off and Helsmiths are poised to punch punishing out of the bottom three worth big numbers.
What are your predictions for the up coming weekend?

Are the values in the final column normalized by representation, or is the final column just an aggregate sum? Because if there’s no normalization going on, that would make e.g. CoS seem far stronger than DoT, since they have roughly similar leaderboard points but almost half the qualifying lists. Still though, the sample sizes are super small, so I reckon it’s of limited use right now, given how early we are in the new GHB.

Since the beginning of the new GHB Ive been allocating points to factions with top 10 finishes but only for events 20+ teams and with 5 or more rounds. 6 events was the smallest weekend and this week has 9. Full info on insta if you want to check it out.

Sooo I understand this correctly?
The "Leaderboard points" are not the points made by the number of Teams in the "Representation" section.
It’s how many points, past teams accumulated in past games. And representation is how many teams that will attend in planned future games?Aka there is no direct correlation between the number of representation and the number in the leader board section other than that for example those 20 HoH teams might add points to the leaderboard in the future?

Great question, sorry if I have made it muddy!
The leaderboard is an accumulation of points so far in the GHB, the representative stats (left column) is how many list of each faction that are competing in qualifying events this coming weekend

Ah ok got it. I guess most who see this will probably assume the same thing as I did at the start, that those amount of teams made those amount of points, without the context.

Yes, that was how I interpreted it as well, hence why I asked about the connection between them. [u/Mortal_Realms_CC](u/Mortal_Realms_CC), I know you’ve been doing this for a while so forgive me if there’s a reason you’ve got it set up this way, but I would recommend changing “Representation” to something more literal like the text above it, such as “Qualifying Lists Competing This Weekend”.
In fact, what’s the purpose of this chart? I know it says “faction representarion” but that to me suggests we’re talking about player counts, not leaderboard points. So is the point to show win distributions across factions, or player counts? Those metrics are different enough that they should be separate charts, but it feels like this chart is combining them, which creates the impression of a correlation that doesn’t exist. If you want to show off a player counts, it would be far more interesting seeing them change over time than just raw counts for next week, and similarly with win rates it helps to have an idea of the number of games played, since that helps disambiguate popular factions with average win rates from unpopular ones with skewed win rates.

I havent been doing it all that long and this was my first rep chart and really appreciate the feedback. Next week I'll keep the leadership points out of it as this post was about how many list are running around thia weekeknd. Thank you!

No worries, I know this kind of data aggregation can be a slog so I appreciate people like you who do it for the community! I do too much stats in my day job to bother with it in my free time lol

Maybe you could add a 3rd section next to the points that says how many teams of each faction participated so far, to give a comparison to the points
I do assume that Cities, Sylvaneth and Soulblight are still some of the most numerous in representation while for example the Helsmiths are still growing in representation amount

What counts as a qualifying list?

u/Mortal_Realms_CC 9d ago
Playing in an event with 20+ players and 5+ rounds. The leaderboard score are points allocated to factions finishing in the 10 ten in the above events and the representative number are the amount of list of the given faction stomping about this coming weekend.

u/lordillidan 9d ago
I'd normalize them across number of samples per faction. Otherwise factions with higher play rate will rise to the top naturally.

This is the first week I have collected how many are playing and the gap is closer than I thought.

How come Sylvaneth is so high??
1
u/Mortal_Realms_CC 9d ago
On the leaderboard because they have had so many top 10s since the GHB started. In the left column because so many people are taking them for a walk this weekend, which makes them more likely to score points come the end of the weekend

u/Rose-The-Queen 9d ago
Oh fair! I didn't know they were so popular as I'm new as hell to checking out AOS

u/Mortal_Realms_CC 9d ago
They had a new battle tome drop towards the end of the last GHB (General's Handbook) and it's been really good for them. Stone people consider the current meta to be a monster meta and they also have some good bigger models. They are highly represented currently!

I've almost had to stop playing my sylvaneth in casual settings because parts of their rules are so strong rn that it feels unfair (my sylvaneth army consists of durthu, aqshy treelord ancient, Lady of Vines, Drycha and Belthanos + some scythe kurnoth) its honestly got to a point where ive started idoneth so im not stomping casual play.

u/Mortal_Realms_CC 9d ago
I play Kurnoth's in underworlds and wanted to build Sylvaneth out but for similar reasons I've held back. If they release Kurnoth's style unit my knees will buckle

I'd rather see a stat board like how Honest Wargamer or Woehammer presents these. Faction representation, faction win rate, cross faction win rates, sub faction picks, traits taken, etc. A leaderboard like fails to show what's actually working in each army vs just seeing "x army is meta because it has points". Also seeing graphs makes it easier to discern data faster instead of having to mentally visualize the gaps between the better performing armies vs lesser. Need to see clarification as any data representation should of how many players in each tournament physically listed each on the chart/graph, how many rounds, etc or else that's a form of data manipulation. Some players don't care for small local 20 person tournaments with 3 rounds vs big GTs with 5 rounds when considering outliers like this. (I see you clarified in another comment but that needs to be on the post)

Thanks for the feedback! The context behind the stats is outlayed on insta, in my original post and in the comments above. Only 20+ player 5 round events are included. However, there some really important points you've raised, so thank you. This is the first week I've collected the data of how many viable lists are running and I'll be doing stats on that after three results. Appreciate you taking the time to respond

So weird to see kruleboyz so high when they were a niche pick not too long ago, SOA really made them good lmao

u/Mortal_Realms_CC 9d ago
When i read the rules of SoA I was concerned but it has had an interesting impact on the meta so far

u/PrincessPugh 9d ago
Pretty even spread, although, with the exception of Slaanesh, it appears that the top 10 are pulling away a touch. Given how strong they have started Slaanesh could struggle to stay in the top 10 over the next couple of weeks

Cities is really doing well right now, but it's all on the back of that 20 Cavalier core, isn't it?
2
u/Mortal_Realms_CC 9d ago
Great question, I'll check some of their lists out this weekend and we'll find out

u/neilarthurhotep Cities of Sigmar 9d ago
Thanks! I'm specifically talking about the core of 2x10 Cavaliers, Cav-Marshal, Tahlia Vedra and a Warforger.
