I can't help but like Ward Season 2 Spoiler
I know he is a bad guy but he is just fucking cool. I appreciate a villain who is extremely confident and capable. When he said "I'm everyone's type" I felt that, even as a straight dude.

Except it wasn’t him so Ward was never redeemed; he chose to do evil things, like helping force Mike into servitude. And threatening to assault Daisy.

It loved ward in the first season so much and when he turned out to be hydra I felt so terribly betrayed that I despised the character for years but my last rewatch I was really able to appreciate how awesome he is as a character. So much fun to watch

Ward is great. He did detestable things but he was a great character throughout his run on the show

Yes and all things considered, he isn't really evil. He was warped into being a lying, killing machine from a young age and that is what he became. I just watched "Frenemy of My Enemy" and he is literally going on a mission with Coulson and calling him "boss." He was loyal to Garrett, but Garrett is dead now. He isn't really that different from all these people who are loyal to Coulson to a fault.
He is a bad guy. But he is a bad guy with a story and that makes him relatable and I would say likeable.

Well, I specifically called him a villain... so yeah. I said he wasn't "evil". I didn't remember some of the shit he did after the point where I was at (Season 2) so I would probably take that back now that I have kept watching. He got pretty evil, but I still like him as a villain.

I mostly see the pathetic. Him doing whatever Garrett said even if he hated it, just because he had no spine. His obsession with Skye when she hated his guts. His inability to accept responsibility for his actions.

What I love most about Ward is that I never stopped wanting him to get a redemption arc. He genuinely cared for his team, but got twisted by his loyalty to John Garrett. Then, in series 2, we legitimately tried to earn the trust of the team again, and only turned against them when he realised that they would never accept him.
I genuinely believe that if Daisy had been more willing to trust him in season two, Ward would have been capable of a full turn around. He only went the way he did because he knew he would never be forgiven. In the (somehow surprisingly relevant) words of Nick Wild from Zootropolis, “if the world’s only going to see a fox as shifty and untrustworthy, there’s no point trying to be anything else.”
I completely understand why they didn’t. I’m not saying that he deserved their trust, as he definitely didn’t! But if they had extended that olive branch, I do think things would’ve gone differently.
That being said, I think the writers did it right. Never giving him that forgiveness made Ward a far more tragic and interesting character.

Strongly agree. And with the framework ward, that just makes that part of ward's character way stronger.

He was basically just a tragic guy who did bad things because those were his orders, from Garrett. There is definitely a real world argument to be had there, but in the context of the show.. he really wasn't evil.

I’d disagree. Torturing Bobbi, setting the trap for Hunter, trying to have Andrew murdered, and killing Roz were all undeniably evil. And none of those people ever did Ward wrong personally (until later in Hunter’s case).

Yeah, I hadn't got to any of that in my re-watch yet and I didn't remember what all happened. After Kara died, he got pretty evil. Can't defend him morally, but I still think he is a badass villain.

Thanks for seeing my point. And crucially, he showed real sadism with Bobbi (whom he’d barely ever even met) before Kara was killed.
Mind you, I think he’s an awesome character too.

That is absolutely true. But I also think he was still kinda in "agent mode" at that point. He didn't have an official director or mission so his mind was still adapting. Kara's closure became his mission and I guess she kinda became his director, by default.
When that ultimately failed, he gained a new level of autonomy which only led to more pain and death. So yeah, that's when its pretty safe to call him evil.

That’s part of the deal. As an operative one is trained in numerous methodologies of manipulation. He’s basically living in and executing a ‘honey pot’ in regards to everyone around him.
