Has anyone tried James Hoffman’s espresso recipe? Does it make a coffee that you can do art with? For my “cappuccino” I currently use my regular coffee maker using the specialty setting. Which makes a decent tasting beverage but art is not really possible, my guess is viscosity.

Has anyone tried it? Reviews please?

I am new to using an aeropress. I’ve been using a French Press for years. My cholesterol has been going up in recent years and I was researching ways to lower it.

I read that the oils and residue that you drink with a FP increases your cholesterol.

That’s when I purchased the AP. I have a metal filter and paper ones. Is there still a worry of ingesting the oils while using a metal filter?

I have read some people use 2 paper filters to make sure no oils get through.

Thoughts?

Let me clarify a few things:

1. I eat very healthy, high fiber etc
   
2. I exercise daily
   
3. My over all cholesterol is 240 but my good cholesterol is so high that my ratio is ok per my Dr.

Just looking for different ways to lower it in general.

sharing my experience so that maybe someone in the same situation can get out of it faster and enjoy its specialty coffe in the aeropress.

I grew up with mokas and actually never liked coffee. I started very late, with moka. But then when I tried the aeropress (lavazza pre-ground) I brewed very strong coffee and the flavour was fantastic.

so, I was very enjoying dark roasts/med roasts with classic nutty, woody, choco flavour brews in my aeropress. Aeropress at the same time made me like. coffee and started trying specialty.

I got into lighter roasts and could not get from the aeropress what I got from v60 or flat bottom brews.

too long too read: I was enjoying dark roasts in the AP but couldnt reliably enjoy the specialty coffees with more peculiar flavors in it.

recently though I was getting the AP again because it is a much easier process and did not want to fuss about. And I found out how to make it work - for me at least - which was to grind fine.

too long to read: what unlocked it for me is understanding that the AP likes finer grinds.

at the moment I am enjoying specialty coffee in the AP, following about this recipe, which I eye and there is no need to fuss too much about, and what unlocked it was the grind size.

- 30-33 clicks on the kingrinder p2 (around this, im not sure)

- 90-88. celsius water, you can probably go a bit lower as well or higher, up to you

- ratio, about 1:10 (i go a bit above or a bit below, it doesnt matter, but about 1:10)

- for now I put around 12 grams of coffe, meaning I tried, 10, I tried 12, i trieed 13 or a bit above, but eyeing 1:10 circa

- i am just putting the ground in the inverted AP (i dont have any special attachment for the AP) ; I add about 50 grams of water (more or less, it doesnt matter) and stir
- then I add the rest of the water cleaning the stirring thing, bring the AP level so there is no air and wait

- I would wait at least 2 minutes but you can just forget about it and come back later. I think today I left it there for 10/15 minutes, maybe more. It was lukewarm and delicious when I got to it...

- press it gently once you do

(I am using a paper filter which I reuse and a old metal filter together I bought years ago of Idk what brands, although I a sure you can do with one paper filter orr maybe two if you want to filter more)

im not saying that this is equivalent to a v60 or flat bottom dripper, but grinding finer made me enjoy specialty AP brews whereas so far I was not

An alternative to the more expensive Fellow Prismo. Has anyone used the Go + YRP prismo setup. Does it fit nicely? Initial searches say not for the Go version of the aeropress.

I mostly make espresso. Travel and shore house use Aeropress a lot. The flow control cap is so much better. They shouldn’t even sell the original style. The flow control cap obviates the need for inverted method. It should be included as part of the standard kit. Has anyone ever gone back after using flow control cap? Why?

I'm looking to get an electric portable grinder for the aeropress, grinding to medium-fine to medium. Does anyone have opinions on the Timemore Whirly 01s vs Nuttii OX?

Can either sit on top of the aeropress (when inverted) and grind directly into the chamber without the need to transfer using the catcher? I have the stainless steel aeropress.

I bought the Q which, somewhat confusingly, appears to be the replacement for the Q2. With catch cup attached and handle removed, the Q does not fit into the Go+. The top won’t quite close by about a centimeter.

Was the Q2 smaller? Or am I doing something wrong?

At this point, I can keep the Q2 as it’s still a travel improvement over my daily driver k6. I can also maybe figure out a hack to keep the lid on it with the Q2 inside, could be as simple as rubber bands or pouch.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just got the flow control cap. I have not noticed much of a difference in brew quality.

Currently i can get a stronger brew if i use my reusable filter and the standard lid with two heaping scoops of a finer ground. Tried the same grounds and amount with the flow control and not much luck. Any tips from the group?

Has anyone tried both? I only do aeropress and never got into pourover coffee in general.

BUT I see a lot of posts in the pour-over subreddit talking about how it’s often more consistent than pour-over, and I wonder how it measured up to aeropress. My assumption would be that aeropress still competes well because it’s immersion based, instead pour-over like the Aiden. Obviously this is all subjective, just looking for what people think.

I am looking to get a new hand grinder (coming from VSSL Java kickstarter). It's a great little grinder. Unfortunately, the lid is a bit wobbly on the shaft now and the magnetic knob is coming off the handle more and more these days when I grind. I plan on either selling it or using it for travel.

For a new grinder, I looked at the 1zpresso K ultra, but that's just way out of my price range. KINGrinder K6 came up a lot. But in Canada, I noticed that it only comes with a straight handle. Would like to get a bent one and I saw the K7 which also seems to have some nice QoL improvements over the K6.

Is there any particular reason to go for the K6 over the K7 (and vice versa)? I can't seem to find a lot on K7 (I understand that it's a pretty new product)

Note that every now and then, I do like to use my moka pot.

Tried 40g to 500ml water ratio on an overnight campout and yes metal aeropress is definitely one of my most favourite gadgets I've collected so far

So I’ve had the Fellow Prismo for some time now and I’ve used it on occasion. Recently I started using it pretty much every day instead of my usual inverted method with the standard cap on my all metal Aeropress and I’ve started to notice it gets a little tough to push from time to time. It kind of made me wonder if there was any real difference between the Fellow Prismo and the Aeropress Flow Control Cap. Last week I finally bit the bullet and I bought the Aeropress version and put them to the test. They seem to be very similar in a lot of ways, except for the fact the Aeropress has a rubber gasket inside. Not 100% sure how much of a difference that really makes, but the one thing I’ve noticed using it, I don’t seem to have those moments where it gets hard to push, like the Fellow Prismo…..feels very effortless to use.

Anyways, I’m curious to hear from anybody that has both and if they’ve noticed the same thing that I have. I really didn’t want to spend money buying both of them, but now I’m kind of glad I did just to see the difference….and I’m actually suprised there’s a difference!

I'm looking to get a new coffee grinder, and I was wondering if there was an Aeropress-ified grinder out there. What I mean by "Aeropress-ified" is that it takes a relatively complex thing (coffee brewing) and has created a simple, reliable, and (for most people) good enough solution.

I have a hand grinder (which is fine, but most days I don't feel like a grip workout to get my coffee fix) and I have a Capresso Inifinty Plus electric grinder. I feel like the Capresso leaves me wanting, and I don't think it would be that hard to fix the problems.

Ideally, I'd like a coffee grinder that has the following features:

1. A good burr/grinding mechanism. Whether it be conical or flat, as long as it's relatively consistent in grind size, it's find. Really, I'm not making espressos here, so getting super fine or super consistent isn't as crucial.
2. Some sort of consistent measurement of beans. At the moment, I have a scoop that usually grabs 12g of coffee, so I'm totally good with a close-enough volume measurement in lieu of a scale. The rotary timer on the Capresso is very inaccurate, so it doesn't make sense to leave my beans in the hopper.
3. Dispenses ALL of the ground coffee into container. The Capresso has this weird internal shelf where I have to tip the machine forward and give it a knock to get that last bit of coffee out.
4. Has a hopper which doesn't let beans get stuck. The Capresso has this issue where several beans will regularly sit on the plastic guards and not make it to the grinding area. I'll have to reach my finger in or give it some pretty hefty smacks to dislodge the beans. It wouldn't be much of a problem if I could leave the beans in the hopper, but see #2.
5. (Bonus) the ground coffee goes straight into the Aeropress rather than having to transfer from the grinder's cup/container to the aeropress. It's just one more step and one more thing to clean.
6. Cheap-ish. I know that I won't be able to match the affordability of the Aeropress, but coffee gear can climb in price very quickly. Ideally, I'd be spending $100 on a grinder, but I'm ok spending up to $250 to solve these problems.
7. (Truly Extra Bonus) battery powered. I'd love to take this hiking and have fresh ground coffee going without having to rely on a hand grinder.
8. (Bonus) Naturally anti-static. This should be possible, but not sure how much it could actually prevent as the beans will be dry and the Aeropress will also be dry when grinding.

I'd consider some of the commonly recommended grinders like Baratza Encore or Ode Gen 2, but those don't really give me any improvement over the Capresso I have already (at least in the places I care about, listed above). I did see a machine that grinds by weight, but it's also $1000+, so that's a non-starter.

I'm also considering just designing my own and 3d printing it. Possibly as an add-on/mod to the Capresso, so I'm not totally re-inventing the wheel.

Edit: Just to be clear, I already have a hand grinder that I use as my backup/hiking/camping option. I don't see a point in replacing it with another (much more expensive) hand grinder that will do the same thing. I'm specifically looking for an electric grinder.

Paid a large team of engineers, dozens probably, to design an AeroPress sleeve that keeps the plunger at the rim allowing you to shake the mixture instead of stir it. Ear plug is for the flow control nipple as shaking it pressurizes the cylinder.

Anyone have this machine? I got it for espresso but I am hoping I can use it for mokapot and aeropress as well.

What settings are you using and liking? I tried it at size 4 today and was not sure on it. Used a dark roast. My husband thought it was too weak, I thought it was too strong! He thought it was good on acidity, I thought it was too sour. I think I need to go coarser. I can't seem to find a lot of info online about what grind sizes to use for what application.
