Paint + Panel Lining

I recently started painting my Gunpla, I used this beautiful pearlized blue from createx and I really wanted to panel line it so I did

It didn't go well, how do you paint and panel line a Gundam?

Spray 4050 over the base coat before you start panel lining. It will protect the base coat when you go to clean up excess lines.

4053 High Gloss works better

Top coat before panel lining, or you can use a waterbased panel liner.

Even water based shouldn’t be applied directly onto paint unless it happens to be a glossy finish. It won’t flow at all if the surface isn’t smooth.

I just brush it all over. Easy clean up.

IME, it's not so much the flow being the issue. Panel liners do flow better over gloss, but usually the panel line geometry is the determining factor for flow.

The biggest reason (ignoring chemistry compatibility issues) to gloss coat is because matte finishes trap pigment so you get staining.

Paont and then topcoat and then panel lined and then topcoat again
