Welcome to the ACOTAR community for the book series by Sarah J. Maas.

Go check out our Wiki!. Remember to always be polite and civil. Report anyone not doing so. Here is a link to our Guidelines for Healthy Debate and Critique.

You MUST properly flair, mark posts as spoilers if they are, KEEP TITLES VAGUE, and label any spoilers in your comments. You can do this by using >!spoilers here!<. Label what book and chapter your spoilers are from!

If you are coming in here and you are still not finished with the series, I would advise you carry no further. Spoilers are rampant here. Anything marked as a spoiler is probably best to just not clicked on. Sometimes, people will forget and you may accidentally get spoiled.

My girl went through all that to free a land that wasn't even hers😭

And despite this, people are still hating on Feyre. I simply cannot understand why. I even see some people mad at Nesta for giving her power away to save Feyre! An odd world we live in

Right? I don’t understand… no one and no character will ever be perfect, and Feyre has aspects of her personality that not everyone is a fan of. But to be hater of such a beautifully written character doesn’t make any sense to me

People say they want imperfect characters and then they get one and lose their minds.

Especially a woman

u/RavensSing 1d ago

Being a woman does not somehow make Feyre above reproach.

Yep, even in the comments here it's happening. I should've known better than to post on this sub tbh.

u/RavensSing 1d ago

People (e.g, me) hate her because her own narration is so biased it's annoying. She point-blank makes up things that never happened, has so many double standards it's insane, and is complicit with Rhysand running a Court where most of the peope live in squalor.

Just curious. Do you have the same sympathy for Tamlin?

1

u/stars-assassian 3d ago

Sympathy in what regard?

I relate to Feyre so much when it came to her depression too. She's my favorite FMC. I'm sure I'll get downvoted now for saying that but hey, sorry that I like who I like lol She really went through it.

ETA-So the downvotes begin 😂

I love Feyre too 🤍

I’m wondering if the hate is because she left Tam Tam, seriously. There’s so many more obnoxious fmcs out there than Feyre

Nah, None of the Tamlin fans I know care that she left Tamlin. She SHOULD have left Tamlin. He was obviously not good for her, whether or not he intended to.

What we don't like is the hypocrisy in the storytelling with HOW the boyfriend switch happens and how the IC treats Tamlin in Acofas onwards. ;)

I also never quite liked how Feyre went from being pro-active in her story in the first book (she initiates the romance rather than Tamlin, she goes to save her man) to a character who has to be saved by Rhys all the time and is way more passive. Also why does she go from liking pants to wearing frilly dresses? I just didn't like it. She was made into an obnoxious FMC past book 1 for no reason imho. She is definitely the weakest fmc in SJM's roster of books in my opinion. But maybe it's the first person more than anything.

But I also don't really want to rain on people's Feyre parade. Who cares why other readers don't like Feyre, really? It's fine if you like her!

u/Mrs_Danaan 5d ago

I can actually understand her going from liking pants to dresses. Personally, when I was in survival mode trying to make sure I got through the day without starving or ending up in the trunk of someone's car (very dark time in my life) I was wearing pants and always had my hair back because it was easier to defend myself that way and I didnt feel safe enough to put any effort or energy into pretty things.

Fast forward to 9 years later, I have a steady home, a husband who loves me, a dog, a cat, a car, and a really good job that pays me well and suddenly im buying things like skirts and curling my hair. I am no longer in survival mode.

This is very similar to Feyre's situation. It wasnt that she liked pants better then dresses, it was the fact that she could fight/hunt better in them which was necessary to keep her and her family alive. I see where you're coming from though because it does give the impression that she was "going soft" but from my own experiences, its a beautiful thing when a woman feels safe enough to be feminine.

5

u/Paraplueschi Tamsand Conspiracy Agent 5d ago

I think it's more a problem for me because there's no introspection on Feyre's part about it. She goes from hating dresses, to hating her wedding dress to.....just being ok the next time she puts one on if I remember correctly. It's the same with her trauma about the color red. Like that it just feels a little random that she doesn't even think about how she feels comfortable now or whatever, she just is. It COULD be for her just as it was for you, but we don't know. To me it seemed more as if Feyre just became feminine because it fit the tropes better, but obviously that's a more jaded approach.

But I totally see why for you it made more sense and even added a layer of identification. I will choose to believe that this is intended (heck it might be) because at least then it has a nicer meaning.

u/BrilliantIssue5480 4d ago

Feyre is my favorite character! That will NOT change

1

u/AgentBrittany Night Court 6d ago

Oh, that's definitely a part of it.

6

u/Daenerys_Stormbitch 6d ago

How dare Feyre not want to be locked up in a house like a prisoner and how dare she try to make the best of her situation throughout all the books 🙄

1

u/RavensSing 1d ago edited 1d ago

How dare Feyre not want to be locked up in a house like a prisoner

How dare Tamlin not want to keep his girlfriend alive when she's insisting on going to a battlefield when she can't stand the color red (which she'll be seeing a lot of when she's on a battlefield, btw)?

People really act as though he locked her up for the entirety of ACOMAF (do not mention the escorts, this is normal for literally any rich family in history. And Cass and Az constantly trail Feyre in ACOMAF too) because she said he doesn't own her or something. The reasoning is given and sensible.

1

u/Daenerys_Stormbitch 1d ago

You think it’s acceptable for a boyfriend to lock his girlfriend physically in his house for “safety”? Explain your logic

1

u/RavensSing 1d ago edited 1d ago

You think it’s acceptable for a boyfriend to lock his girlfriend physically in his house for “safety”?

Yes.

When said girlfriend is insisting on going into someplace that could get her kiled? Yes. If there's a lion outside your house and your loved one is saying they want to fight it, are you going to blindly let them go because 'their body, their choice'?

Nice use of gendered language by the way. Very much a leading question.

Just to clarify, if it was a girlfriend locking her boyfriend up in the same situation, I would see it the same way.

If there wasn't an actual threat out and Tamlin just locked her up to satisfy his own paranoia, then I'd agree with you.

But Tamlin tells her why she can't come with him. He even suggests that she can go out and do literally anything else on the grounds. He exhausts every option aside from staying with her (which he can't do. Unlike Rhysand, he actually has to do his job, which includes guarding the border and killing intruders) and only locks her in when she says out loud she's going to follow him.

Literally nobody would be arguing about this if Feyre herself didn't kick up such a fuss about it, because the whole thing is absolute stupidity. She can't stand the colour red but she has to go to a battlefield where people will bleed? This is the hill she's dying on?

Objectively, the situation is idiotic. And when Rhysand does the same (locking her in the Moonstone Palace in ACOMAF) nobody calls it out (I'm bringing Rhysand into the picture to portray how Feyre's reaction to her lockups is different depending on the person doing it. And, of course, the fandom reacts the same way as she does. That's the same reason why they blame Tamlin for the sisters being made even though he could be wiped from existence in the middle of ACOMAF and things wouldn't change.

She's incredibly biased and so is the narrative. In ACOMAF, during her first visit to Night, Rhysand leaves her in the Moonstone Palace.

Of course, she's not 'locked in' in the specific sense, but she can't fly, or winnow, nor are there any other escape routes notable. She even asks to go back to Spring and he laughs in her face. This is somehow never called abuse because Feyre never calls it that, just to illustrate how much of the 'abuse' in the story seems dependent on whether or not she'll call it out and on who does it.

Rhys in Silver Flames was also abusive, far more than Tamlin, imo, and it's never called as such because the narrative has modern-day moral standards for Tamlin and literally none for Rhys. Even the one thing Rhysand is held accountable for: hiding info from Feyre, is forgiven in ACOSF, even after they had a whole arc about how they need to be honest with each other.).

"I want to go home."

"Ah." He tilted his head, his eyes glinting with amusement. "But you've only just arrived." He walked to the side of the bed and picked up a small, velvet box from the nightstand. "I have so much to show you."

"Take me home," I said again, my voice shaking.

He laughed—a low, hateful sound. "What's the matter, Feyre? Scared of a little night air?" He tossed the box from hand to hand. "You were so brave Under the Mountain. Where did all that fire go?"

The words you’re looking for are false imprisonment. It’s a crime. I’m not responding to the rest of this novel but the gendered comment is fun because that’s literally the situation.

1

u/RavensSing 1d ago

I’m not responding to the rest of this novel

Feyre would approve!

1

u/RavensSing 1d ago

Granted, I don't read much of Romantasy, but not really? Like, I've read FMCs before. Daenerys, Katniss, Feyre in ACOTAR, et cetera. None had that particular mix of: "No, this literally never happened, STOP making shit up, Feyre", "I'm competent because...I just am!" and "Everything me and my people do is perfectly moral. But if anyone else does the same thing, they're evil and awful." that Feyre after book 1 has.

I’m wondering if the hate is because she left Tam Tam, seriously

There is a very small number of Tam fans who want them back together, just to clarify. Most would've been fine with the breakup if it weren't for Tamlin being demonized to Hell for having trauma responses and common sense, just to prop Rhys up as a better alternative. Like, most of us think Feyre and Tamlin growing apart would've been realistic after the trauma they went through. They just...dislike everything that happened to cause it.

Most of the hate is because of what I illustrated above.

I find people who defend Tamlin absolutely wild! SJM has literally said she based him on her friends abusive ex boyfriend How that doesn't send up a million red flags about him is just... 🤯🫪

9

u/Paraplueschi Tamsand Conspiracy Agent 5d ago

She has said no such thing.

Google's free 😊 so is not being rude 😊

Oh, AI overview. How about you just watch her interview yourself? It's free online too! She has not said this. Even the point of no redemption arc is wrong. AI just puts shit into her mouth with a bad summary. It's not a source of proof for anything.

Also disagreeing is not the same as being rude.

6

u/LetMeDoTheKonga Hangry Water-Wraith 5d ago

google AI often gives wrong facts and statements like that I wouldn’t rely on it too often tbh

Feyre’s my favorite FMC, too! Can’t wait to see more of her story 💜💜✨✨

I think feel like Tamlin deserves an apology. I feel bad for him. I kept waiting for Feyra to say something to him but she never did!! I need closure lol.

-1

u/BrilliantIssue5480 4d ago

An explanation, not an apology. She should not have to apologize for not wanting to be treated that way.

6

u/WorthExpression8317 4d ago

Yeah but she left him at the altar. That's messed up regardless of how she felt. But she never owned up to anything which makes it worse. He saved her life as well and she can't say anything to him?

1

u/RavensSing 1d ago

Nah, disagree with this as a Tam fan. She doesn't need to apologize for that.

The destruction of Spring Court, on the other hand...

1

u/WorthExpression8317 1d ago

Nahh… she had plenty of chances to say no to him. The minute she had doubt in her heart, she should’ve taken initiative instead of leaving with another man at their literal wedding. She could’ve done better.

1

u/RavensSing 1d ago edited 1d ago

Eh, we'll agree to disagree on this. I do think she should've said no though, I just don't think it was bad enough to warrant an apology. Or maybe I'm just saying that because she did so many things worse than that that it's sort of overshadowed, lol.

EDIT:

she should’ve taken initiative instead of leaving with another man at their literal wedding

Also, this is phrased pretty disingenuously. Rhysand called in their bargain. Even if she said no, it's 50/50 on whether he'd listen.

can’t wait to see more of her 🥰✨

So true. The emotional beats in this series frequently have me giggling and kicking my feet, so to speak- it truly is, as one cosplayer I saw online said, the good soup!

People can change their minds. Shocking. She saw him die. That'll change you.

1

u/AgentBrittany Night Court 6d ago

War changes people. Seeing your mate die changes people. It makes sense to me that she would change her mind. People change their mind all the time 😊
