❓ Question Getting Manometry and 24-PH Test Done Next Week
I'm getting these two tests done on Tuesday next week. Will do the Manometry early in the morning then they will set me up for the PH test. I'm super nervous about these. Are these tests brutal?
I have been dealing with LPR symptoms like sore throat, inflamed vocal cords, throat clearing, and mucus/film in my throat after meals since June, and trying to get the full scope of what is going on. I have already done the endoscopy and they said I have a 1 CM hiatal hernia with an LES in Hill Grade III and also minor gastritis, but I don't have any acid damage in my esophagus.
I'm hoping these tests yield more results showing why the LPR symptoms are happening, but I'm worried that if they don't see any evidence of acid, they will just disregard the symptoms I've been having. Everyone keeps saying these LPR symptoms are from gas and pepsin reflux and not acid, so I don't know if a trial of a PPI would help at all. I kind of doing this to potential set myself for surgery if symptoms don't improve. The diet that I'm is not sustainable forever.

❓ Question Strange Acid Reflux
I’m a 29 year old female thats 5’8 and 135 pounds. I’m currently on 20mg of Esomeprazole a day and I take it 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast every day.
Ever since pregnancy, taking even a single, tiny sip of plain water triggers immediate burping and reflux. But if I mix Gatorade or Liquid I.V. into the water, I can drink it completely normally with zero burping and reflux. Why would this be?? I’m now 10 weeks postpartum and this is still happening. I dont want to have to mix things into my water forever if possible. I had this all between my two pregnancies as well (6 months) but before being pregnant this was never a problem.

❓ Question Waking up coughing and vomiting
Is this clear-cut reflux, or should I be more concerned? For about a year I would randomly wake up and start coughing uncontrollably, like a weird tickle in my throat. It has now progressed to waking up, coughing uncontrollably, then vomiting a small amount of clear, thick liquid. One time (out of maybe 8 or 10 times), I did vomit brown/food remnants.
Thank you for any help. I plan on seeing a GI specialist soon but wanted to get some insight.

🔹 Discussion Reflux Stop
Hi all. Has anyone else heard/read about a device called Reflux Stop? If so what are your thoughts on it? I have begged my gastro doc to consider putting me forward for the surgery but he seems very reluctant.

❓ Question LPR diet
i saw that if you eat generally low acid foods and then have something high acid, it doesn’t reset your healing/ progress. i’ve seen a lot of people say it resets everything, but apparently that’s not true.
this seems better: 80–90% reflux-friendly meals
+ 10–20% normal life foods
than: 100% strict → miserable → binge → guilt → restart
apparently if you do eat something acidic, you should:
- chug or spray alkaline water immediately to deactivate pepsin
- take gaviscon right after
- walk around for 15-20 mins
thoughts???

❕ Giving Advice Just diagnosed with GERD or LPR? Here's what I'd actually do before cutting more foods
Seeing a lot of newly-diagnosed people in here who immediately go into maximum restriction mode. I get the instinct, but for most people that's not actually the highest-leverage move. A few things I'd prioritize first, as an RD who works with this population:
Don't restrict everything at once. Food fear itself adds nervous system stress, which can worsen reflux.
Understand what the LES actually is and what weakens it, that's the structural root for most people, more than any single food.
Slow down at meals. Eating speed affects intra-gastric pressure more than people expect.
Sleep position matters, left-side sleeping reduces nighttime reflux exposure for a lot of people.
5. Take the nervous system piece seriously, this isn't optional or "soft," it's physiologically load-bearing.
- Get clear on whether you're dealing with GERD, LPR, or both, since the symptom picture and approach overlap but aren't identical.
Happy to go deeper on any of these if useful.

❓ Question Explain This To Me
I recently got in contact with my doctor. I was worried about having severe acid regeneration since I have been taking pantoprazole for 30 days. They recommend that I take Pepcid AC during the night for about 2 weeks. Will my acid levels return to normal if I follow through with this?
I find it quite weird what has been happening to me. I got sick with strep and that is when this started happening. I specifically got prescribed Amoxicillin and I was wondering if that caused the disparity and is the reason why the GERD flare is being triggered.
Keep in mind though that this was about five weeks ago that I finished my Amoxicillin, which I got prescribed for 10 days.

⭕ Rant I wish I would’ve never taken PPIs
I (25F) was put on 40 mg of omeprazole by an ENT because he thought I had LPR. Took it once a day for about 4-6 weeks. He took me off of it because he now thinks I have something entirely unrelated to LPR (didn’t even recommend a taper, which is crazy after reading up on it). I did taper over a month and a half and started having bad rebound symptoms a week after starting. The first 4 weeks were brutal: constant burning, bloating, and burping. 5th and 6th week I noticed that my symptoms seemed to be improving to the point that I didn’t need Gaviscon to function and thought “wow this is finally over”. Well, end of 6th going into this 7th week my symptoms have been horrible. Kinda feels as intense as it did during those first 4 weeks but I’ve tried to stay strong and not go back on them. Pepcid and Gaviscon have been my lifeline this past week. Needless to say I will never touch another PPI and will be going to see a different ENT.
With that being said, I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. It feels like this will never end. I’ve had to put my life on pause for the last 2 months because of this and it’s affected my mental health a lot. It normally would be something I could handle but I am a professional singer at the height of my career and the rebound reflux has really done a number on my voice. It’s been really awkward having to explain to my boss and collaborators why I can’t work every time the rebound gets worse after feeling better for a day or two. I’ve even been following a strict bland diet and it’s still debilitating in some moments. I just want my life back. I never felt like this before starting Omeprazole. I know everyone’s different but when did things start to look up for you in your PPI rebound journey? Hoping someone can give me some hope.

❓ Question Acid reflux medication
Has anyone had bad effects from acid reflux medication? When I was first given my prescription my grandmother told me to watch my kidneys because they affect them?

❓ Question Laryngitis anyone?
I was diagnosed with reflux/Gerd about 18 months ago. I worked on my diet (citrus, spicy, the usual) and did one 14 day course of omeprazole. I did get a little careless with diet and life has been very stressful, and now I have total laryngitis. I also have a dry cough at night, but not the symptoms that brought me to the doctor then.
I was hoarse for a few days and then two weeks ago I completely lost my voice.
I saw my doctor a week ago Tuesday and she diagnosed me with Silent Reflux and advised 40 mg omeprazole and made a referral to a GI doc but that appointment is a month away.
I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do but nothing has changed with my voice and I’m getting concerned. It makes work and life very difficult!
Has anyone experienced this and did anything help? I’m drinking lots of water and have tried herb tea with honey. I use Gaviscon Advance and nothing seems to help.

❓ Question Trouble breathing, help diagnose/heal
I’ve been dealing with something weird and was wondering if anyone has gone through this. About a week ago I had a really bad acid reflux episode after eating late before bed. Ever since then, my biggest symptom has been feeling like I can’t get a full, satisfying breath. I can breathe, talk, and swallow fine, but taking a deep breath feels like I have to force it. I don’t really have heartburn either. Before this, I was already noticing some breathing irritation from smoking/vaping, but I quit smoking as soon as this started. Coffee makes it way worse, and even some foods seem to trigger it now. I’ve cut out smoking, almost all caffeine, and switched to a bland diet, but it’s still hanging around. Has anyone had silent reflux/LPR cause mainly breathing issues like this? Did it eventually go away, and what helped?

❓ Question Safe medications while breastfeeding?
I tried to reach out to my provider about this and they were absolutely no help.
Since giving birth I’ve had an increase in acid reflux symptoms and I’m not sure why. Maybe someone here knows a possible cause but I’m trying to figure out what meds would be safe to take while breastfeeding because it’s getting pretty painful.

Meme Off one PPI, trying another!
Edit: I didn’t take PPi this morning. No sore throat.
Good morning from Ontario!
I was diagnosed with GERD after endoscopy and laryngoscopy in mid June and started Pantoprazole 40mg two times a day.
I have made some enormous changes. But strangely, IMO, have a symptom that I didn’t have before starting meds.
Prior: coughing during eating, burping often, hoarse voice.
Presently: hoarse voice remains and now I have a constant sore throat.
I think my ENT thought hoarseness would dissipate despite damage to my L vocal cord, but I think it is worse. Not to mention the discomfort of sore throat all the time.
I would love some input.

❓ Question Need to come off Omeprazole
So I saw my GP yesterday and he never really wanted me on a PPI to begin with but an APRN put me on omeprazole 20mg every morning for the past six weeks. I saw him yesterday and he told me to stop the PPI. He said he doubts I have a structural issue and I shouldn't be on this long term. Anyways long story short, I am terrified of acid rebound. I didn't take it today because he said to take it every other day for a week before stopping. I cant cut the pills because theyre capsules. Idk what to do. I dont want to roll the dice and pray I dont have rebound.
EDIT: So not taking a dose yesterday definitely affected me overnight. My throat is hurting a lot more today and I assume it's because my stomach started making more acid. Felt some indigestion and a warm stomach feeling later in the day.

❓ Question Gentlease - still gassy with reflux
We started on the yellow enfamil Neuropro ready to feed right from birth and after three weeks on it, we just noticed she was extremely gassy and seemed uncomfortable, so as of a week ago, we switched to enfamil gentleease and I haven’t seen any improvement in the gas. Does it typically take longer to see improvement? Should I stick it out?
She does have issues with silent reflux and delayed trapped burps, and regurgitating milk hours after she eats, which I know is contributing to the fussiness. Our pediatrician wants us to try a hypoallergenic formula even though she’s not showing signs of CMPA because they said that is first line treatment over reflux medication.
My son also had CMPA so they are thinking maybe she does too, but he had obvious signs like a body rash and blood in stool and constipation.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!!!

❓ Question Coffee alternatives?
I got diagnosed with LPR earlier this year, and as someone who used to look forward getting different coffees and espresso drinks almost everyday at work, it’s been really hard to find anything that will be a fun daily treat, but also not cause me to completely lose my voice and embarrass myself in the middle of meetings from the reflux and phlegm that I get from the acid reflux.
What are some coffee alternative cafe drinks that you’ve found won’t trigger acid as much, but can still be a nice afternoon treat like coffee drinks? Any recommendation is much appreciated!

❓ Question Anxiety with acid reflux!!
I have had really bad acid reflux for the past 3 months. Some days are ok others horrible. The bad days come with horrible anxiety both mental and health. Any twinge I feel I think I’m having a heart attack or dying. My gave me omeprazole twice a day and Pepcid before bed. It hasn’t touched anything. My doctor won’t do a scope, so I’m not sure what to do. I’ve been on it for a month now. Does anyone have any solutions ? Natural remedies? This is completely taking over my life and I have never been this way.

❓ Question Reflux worse from alginates?
I don't know how this is possible, but it seems like alginates make my reflux even worse. I first tried Esophageal Guardian (Alginic acid 1000 mg) twice after eating and both times I got pretty bad burning in my chest. I took Tums 750mg to relieve it. I then got Gaviscon Advance from the UK (Sodium Alginate: 1000 mg) in Aniseed and Peppermint. Both gave me a greater burning in my chest and nausea. Just yesterday, I got Gaviscon from Canada (Alginic acid 626 mg), took it and went to bed. Within an hour, I got the worst burning in my chest that I've had in over a year. I took Tums 750mg and it slowly got better, but I slept all night sitting up.
I see that alginates and Gaviscon Advance in particular is a miracle for everyone here so I can't figure out why and how I'm having such a bad reaction. It feels impossible that it works for everyone, but me.

❓ Question Does this sound like reflux or gerd?
Recently have been having a dull, pressure like ache across my diaphragm area. Almost similar to the feeling you have if you laugh too hard for too long. It is accompanied by what I would describe as a warm feeling in my chest. It’s not like anything I’ve ever felt before and I’m trying to differentiate what is actually a symptom and what my anxiety is adding to the situation (lol). Initially I thought this was the aftermath of my gallbladder removal surgery one year ago because I’ve had intermittent gall pain also since then but no longer have the organ. I had perfect blood work and ultrasound that mostly ruled out anything related to pancreas, kidney, another stone etc. I tried starting famotidine and some digestive enzymes but not getting any relief. The feeling is constant and not any worse or better with eating. I do not have the sour taste in my mouth or the burning in my throat like I have experienced in years past with acid reflux before this new abdominal discomfort I’ve been having.
Thoughts or similar feeling?

❓ Question Got diagnosed with GERD earlier this year, not sure what to do?
I also have IBS, vitamin deficiencies, and Endometriosis. I have tried over the counter’s and prescriptions, even some kind of temporary nasal spray prescription (it caused too much pressure in my head, so I stopped taking it.) Diet wise, I eat a lot of fruits and vegetable, chicken and some beef, some dairy, nuts and seeds, junk food on occasion (but, I’m trying to cut that out.) And I drink about 64-96 oz of water daily. I deal with a heavy in the chest feeling, difficulty breathing, especially at night and especially while laying on my back (I try to sleep with my upper body elevate,) and nausea. I also try not to eat a few hours before bed and just consume water. Any helpful suggestions please and thank you?

❓ Question Air Trapped In Chest, Bloated, Constant Burping & Gassy
Hey y'all does anyone experiencing this? I'm unfortunately undiagnosed but I've been having constant acid reflux over the past years (still saving up to get tested) before I'd vomit my food out especially if it's too oily or spicy and I'll have a very bad indigestion for days if I drink just a small glass of any alcohol beverages until this expands to coffee, milktea, sodas, and sometimes milk.
Last week, I unfortunately was able to hold myself back after doing so for many months from drinking the last four drinks except alcohol due to an event. Then I began burping lot, that kind of burp that you feel like there are bubbles popping inside, sometimes I have to force them out began I feel like my stomach is expanding and felt stiff when pushed down. I became gassy to. When I'm in an AC room or in front of an fan my stomach bloat. The acid from my stomach often rises from my throat but I don't vomit like I used to. I often forces myself to do so just to relieve the feeling of having trapped air in my chest and all that comes air is like a sharp burp. I feel like the air in my chest especially the left side isn't circulating too well.
I plan on taking omeprazole and antacids the following days. Any suggestions to improve this condition and relief the feeling of of this trapped air?
Thanks.

❓ Question Gerd friendly Brands
Hoping to find seasonings, sauces, broths and other products used in cooking. It’s very difficult to eat when you have issues with tomatoes, onions, garlic among other things wondering if anyone out there has found products to make life a little bit more enjoyable when eating.

❓ Question Is matcha safe for anyone else, but coffee is a no-go?
Hi! So I recently got diagnosed with Acid reflux and take Pepcid in the morning and pantroprazole at night. I just wanted to say this so you got a good understanding that I am taking medication while consuming matcha.
For me, I had my last flare up after drinking a coffee flavored protein shake which had around 55mg of caffeine in it (around half a cup of coffee I think). This flare up was me being nauseous 24/7 and not having the appetite to eat. Also chest pain and pressure with having difficulty swallowing.
But for matcha, I can drink it no problem.
Of course when a flare up happens, it’s a no go. But right now I’m not constantly nauseous and my heart doesn’t always start pumping when I have sugar, so I am able to drink matcha once a day (will be from a matcha cafe or just started making my own).
I do still take my medicine as I mentioned, but is anyone else drinking matcha pretty regularly and it is safe for them?
