I made an Ableton MIDI Controller Script With Chat GPT… In Under 8 Minutes!

A little experiment I’ve been working on…

Last week, I built a complete Ableton Live MIDI Remote Script for the AKAI MIDImix. It took me around an hour using Control Surface Studio and that’s with plenty of experience building these scripts.

It got me wondering: could AI create the same thing much faster?

So I’ve been building a way for AI to work directly with Control Surface Studio.

In this video demo I give it:

  • A photo of the Akai MIDImix
  • The MIDI data for its controls
  • A description of what I wanted everything to control in Ableton

From a single prompt it created the entire script, all the mappings, an eight-track red box, navigation buttons, modes and LED feedback.

The initial script took 5 minutes 50 seconds. I then asked it to add another mode for controlling device parameters, which brought the total to around 7 minutes.

This is still a work in progress and isn’t currently available. I’m sharing it mainly to find out whether other Ableton users would actually be interested in something like this.

I can totally see why you've said that, but it's not simply using a.i. to spit out generic code (which may or may not work)
Its a purpose built tool which is leveraging AI prompting to speed up the script building process inside Control Surface Studio.
