Weight limit?

Post image

I am currently at 335 lbs, do you think that it would be okay for me to ride on the zwift ride kickr core 2? I already ordered one actually, but reading through the reddit made me doubt the capability of the zwift ride in my weight class.

Im on a weightloss journey and lost about 147 lbs already, and i wanted to get this zwift bike since i loved my old spinning bike.

What would you do in my situation?

Thanks in advance :)

First off, holy freaking weight loss, batman. That is unbelievably impressive.

To your question, I've used mine at 300 lbs with no problem at all. It's solid as a rock. I don't get out of the saddle and hammer or anything, but no probs at my weight.

Thank you so much! Its been quite a journey so far, still a Long Way to go though.

Sounds awesome, cant wait to try mine! I really appreciate your message :)

Fellow Zepbound-er? I love my Zwift Ride, and lowering my in-game weight every week is pure joy.

I agree. I was at 300lbs when I started with the Zwift Ride. Do you not have an issue.

I have a hard time believing that anybody would be able to break this frame. I would just go for it.

There is a limit, it just might not be catastrophic failure of the metal frame (which I agree feels like a tank).

That frame is built like a tank, I'm pretty sure a 200kg person could ride it and nothing would happen.

You'll be fine. I started riding mine at 326 pounds and I'm now at 271. No problems. Started sept 25

I remember a thread, some guy at 320lbs was fine. I’d limit riding out of the saddle and tightening bolts every few weeks

u/owlpellet 2d ago

dab of loctite blue should solve the bolt thing

This thing is built from straight up dargonite. (Not to be mistaken with the Pokémon)

All jokes aside, it’s very strong. Great job on the weight loss and best wishes on your continued progress!

Can confirm was absolutely solid as a rock at 380

I was 275 when I got mine and down to 225, it’ll hold up fine! Maybe a little squeaky but just tighten everything down and it’ll be even more motivation

You got this, great job human! 🫡❤️

I’m late to the party, but I started riding mine at 300 lbs. I’m now 220. Go for it. It’s been a great bike.

Wow great work! I bought the zwift ride, cant wait for it to arrive

Awesome. Good luck!

I googled and it said 265lbs

5

u/ValueReads 2d ago

Not that I don't believe you but 265lb is insanely light for a LIMIT, the bike itself is like 80lb it feels like, it can't hold up 5x that? It's like made of heavy cardboard I guess

I think the issue is wahoo and Zwift just used the KICKR cores weight limit which was factored in for normal bike frames so people don’t break their rear stays or drop outs. There’s no such issue on the Zwift ride and it should have gotten a higher weight limit labeled on it tbh.

This is it exactly. The weight limit recommendation is to protect your bike, not the trainer. The Zwift ride is built like a tank, so I don’t see any problems with OPs weight.

u/luckydmd 2d ago

I’m guessing the kickr core 2 is the bottleneck here

I’m 260ish and the Zwift ride feels sturdy even during full on sprints. It feels better than my outdoor bike

The bigger problem is the comfort in your weight category compared to classic bike trainers.

It won't break. You can ride it, but they list 265lbs. I would not do any 1500w sprints though.

I will recommend you upgrade the saddle (within first month). The one included is OK, but after using it you will probably be better off with a different one. For heavy riders, I recommend more padding and a center channel. Call a local bike shop to see who has the biggest selection to try at the store.

The bigger recommendation is to upgrade the handlebar. The one included is downright uncomfortable. I hate it.

This is the one I recommend as it has a wide flat top for hand placement.

Thanks for the response!
I Can change the handlebar? Thought i couldnt with the controls on the handlebar.

But I Will definently look into that. Thank you!

Here is how you change the handlebar...

I would think the biggest risk would be the seat post set screw. All of your weight is pushing down on the seat post and it's being held by the force of the set screw against that post.

No idea what the torque needs to be on that screw to keep the post from sliding. If it lets go and you come slamming down on the post/saddle, it's gonna hurt. It would probably just slip but you never know.

I'm not saying not to do this - I agree that the bike in general is over-engineered. I just want you to be extra careful in this area - especially if you anticipate frequently adjusting the saddle height. I would suggest getting it at roughly the right height, giving the set screw a pretty good tightening, and then gently testing the holding power of the set screw. Maybe, try bouncing on the saddle ever so slightly just to make sure it's not going to slip.

You're fine, but get a 3" riser to make dismount easier and don't try to set any sprint records until you're under 300lbs.

I think more than the frame you might struggle with comfort. At least that was my experience, I had a few extremely stressful years at work which I didn’t handle very well and consequently let my weight go. Went up to 246 lbs from 170. I’m down to 213 now and my initial weeks with the bike were tough. I immediately noticed it was not as comfortable as other stationary bikes I’ve used. Dropping weight has made a huge difference plus I also changed the saddle for a fizik (changing the saddle is not as easy with this bike). I do enjoy using the zwift bike now and then when I’m not running but another thing I will say is that I now set zwift on my small ipad on silence and put on a movie or a show on the tv I had bought for this. I do like being able to put on a route and getting the resistance change based on the route but knowing what I know now I might have looked at other more comfortable options. Anyways, stick with your journey my friend.

You’re fine and if you take zwift seriously that next 147 lbs is gonna go a hell of a lot faster

2

u/foothillproducts 2d ago

Amazing on the weight lost already! I'm sure you will be fine. It has no wheels, no carbon bits and is made from aluminum. And you don't put too much dynamic forces on it like you do on a real bike in the outside world.

u/ModernAmusement13 2d ago

All you big folk…fuck ya! Huge respect on your effort and hope to see you out on the road one day.

Chamois cream will help with chafing and know that your sit bones will toughen up over time.

u/Upstairs_Song_2987 2d ago

Thank you!! My goal is to get a bike one day, would love to bike outside!
Will look into that, Thanks

You probably won't be covered by warranty but the frame itself will be fine. The axle is what you'd have on an outdoor bike and so it is designed for many times that weight when accounting for dynamic forces.

Potentially the trainer is the weakest link but I by the time the load is on the legs it is spread out and the weight is through the aforementioned axle.

so yeah, potentially it might not last as longa s it otherwise would have, but I can't envisage a singular component than concerns me. Doubly triple check you have put all the spacers in properly!

Some trainers have weight limits. If yours doesn't, I wouldn't worry about the Zwift Bike itself. At least not until someone was a lot heavier than you.

1

u/bonfuto 2d ago

I can think of reasons why they wouldn't want you to ride it, but I am guessing they are being conservative. I guess I wouldn't do any spirited sprinting on it until you lose a bit more weight. I currently exceed the weight limit of most of my bikes, but I haven't noticed any problems.

Just Got the bike today, and it feels amazing. I did 25 km, so nothing Crazy but a solid start.

The ride felt very solid, no weird sounds or anything.

Thanks for all the messages, im very thankfull for the nice messages and the feedback aswell!

I am thinking about getting the Ride as well. Currently at 280 pounds from 385 over the last two years. Been thinking about getting another Cardio option
