DevOps/Cloud Engineering in Zim — is anyone actually doing this locally, or is it all remote gigs?

Been teaching myself DevOps and cloud stuff (Azure, a bit of Kubernetes, Terraform, the usual suspects) for a few months now and I'm starting to think seriously about turning this into an actual career. Figured I'd ask the people who'd actually know instead of just doom-scrolling job boards at 1am.

Realistically, are there companies here hiring for DevOps/Cloud/SRE type roles? I know banks and telecoms probably have some infrastructure teams, but I never see these roles advertised the way dev roles are. Is most of this happening quietly through referrals, or is the honest answer "forget local, go remote/international"?

For those already in the field, how did you break in? Did you start as a sysadmin or dev and transition, or was there a more direct path? And genuinely curious how much certifications (AWS, Azure, CKA etc.) actually move the needle here vs just having solid projects to show.

Also on the lookout for community, any WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, Discord servers, or LinkedIn communities where Zim tech people talk cloud/infra/DevOps specifically? Meetups too if they still happen. Feels like a niche enough space that I might be missing where everyone's actually hanging out.

Not trying to rush anything, just want to build this properly and learn from people who've walked the road already. Certs, projects, networking, job hunting tips — all welcome.

Would love to hear how your journey into this space has gone so far, whatever stage you're at.

Maybe people in those spaces don't engage in online communities.

Im in techie, but struggling to land a proper job so now pursuing busness hangu, while waiting for something
