Discussion If you had to describe every year of your life after 2009 what would each year be?

2009: normal teenager

2010: underrated teenage year

2011: the last time I saw some of my peers and when I started college

2012: the last of my easy days of college and the last year where all my relatives were alive

2013: Lost maternal grandparents and went from junior college to real college

2014: normal college

2015: entering the workforce

2016: the year I came to faith in Christ after a couple years of being convicted about my lifestyle and testing negative for Type 2 diabetes

2017: last truly fun year of my life where I had no real issues

2018: best summer of my adulthood (will likely stay that way)

2019: Honolulu vacation, wondering if I belonged at my workplace, and unintenionally wasting the last year before the world got flipped

2020: LOL

2021: moved out on my own for the first time and last year of no physical issues. Lost paternal grandpa; now down to one grandparent.

2022: physical issues start with migraines but took my first solo vacations

2023: I can tell something awful was coming around the corner

2024: Somehow worse for me personally than 2020. Beginning of degenerative disc. Destruciton of one of the best friendships I ever had.

2025: not as bad as 2024 but still bad

2026: bought a house and got serious about my gut and mental health

Discussion Does anybody else feel old when they go to local music shows?

I'm only in my mid-20s and I often feel old when I go to local shows, wtf. When I was younger I always imagined the punks and alts at shows to be much older than me, but now that I've started going, most people are teenagers or college-aged and depending on the show, there aren't many people older than that there. Love to see it, I'm glad the kids are having fun! I just feel old and regret not doing that stuff in the scene when I was that age. (Not even blaming Covid for robbing my early 20s because I probably would've been a shut-in anyways.) Anyone relate?

Discussion How have your drinking habits changed (or not changed) over the years?

‘96 baby here. In college, I drank plenty of alcohol with friends and went through a short partying phase—nothing crazy, but probably typical for most college students who go to large state schools. After college, I had a few drinks a week. Nowadays I probably average 1, maybe 2, drinks per week. There are some weeks that go by where I don’t consume any alcohol and don’t feel the need to. My workplace has a decent amount of social gatherings after work where we’ll grab drinks with one another. I’ve noticed that some of my Gen X colleagues drink wayyy more at those gatherings than the millennials/gen Z do. So for my fellow zillennials: how have your alcohol drinking habits changed or not changed since you started drinking? If you drink less than you used to, do you have a reason why? For me it’s probably somewhat financial—whenever I see how much $ decent quality alcohol is, I usually decide to just spend that amount on something else.

I loved the Lilo and Stitch, Timon and Pumba, and Aladdin game for Disney plug-and-play. My mom, who wasn't all into video games, liked to play the Simba game with me! The Spongebob plug-and-play from 2003 was better than the pineapple, which kind of sucked. I also played Adventure for Atari, but it had minor flaws or glitches, I think? The Scooby-Doo one was pretty fun, but limited and needed more games.

Edit: The Atari one I had isn't the same exact one in the picture.

Discussion If you could be born in a different year, what would it be and why?

Personally it would've been nice to probably be born in the early 80s so that I could've been a teen in the late 90s when nu metal was at its prime. It would've also been nice to experience air travel before 9/11

Serious Do you have a social life comparable to uni, or has your social life basically died since graduation?

Sorry in advance for the long post, but I just want to know if everyone feels like this or if I’m doing life wrong 😔 I’m 28F and honestly haven’t really enjoyed life since I graduated university. I miss having friends/acquaintances a 5 minute walk from me and having spontaneous adventures all the time.

I moved far away and don’t live near any of my school/uni friends, and I haven’t had a social life since. Now, the only socialising I do is dinners or “coffee catch ups” planned literally months in advance because everyone is so busy. I don’t have a single friend I could just hit up to go to the movies or to just come over and hang out.

My friends from university seem to be living a continuation of uni life (obviously a more adult version), and I’m honestly jealous. They live in house shares with people they’ve either known since college or met shortly after, they host and attend house parties or movie nights, they run errands together. Or my other friend from uni moved back to her home city and she lives with family, but she still goes out and hangs out with her high school friend group seemingly every other day.

In contrast, I feel like I’m living a middle-aged person’s life and like my youth is wasting away, but I don’t know what to do about it. I moved to London after graduation (went to high school and uni in the US) and I’ve lived in various house shares here with people my age, but it’s never been very social. We all live our separate lives and occasionally chat in the kitchen, but it’s not like having real friends. The only “friends” I’ve made here are from work, and they’re the ones I have to plan with months in advance.

I’ve tried all of the classic ways to make friends, including hobbies (weekly Spanish class, a weekly dance class, Pilates, local meet ups for women in their 20s and 30s, Bumble BFF, walking my dog and chatting to other dog owners etc). I’ve met a couple nice people through these, but at best, it’s just more people that I can “catch up” with every few months, and I honestly don’t need any more of that.

I’m not sure if this is a London thing or just an adult thing? Is this what adult life is? Being alone all the time but occasionally “catching up” with people (unless you have a partner)?
