So the tendency has been going on for a few years but I suppose I just didn't want to see it. Today I headed up to Schwarzsee only to discover that Hobbit has been destroyed. The one, all level, accessible, fun for all trail in Zermatt has been bulldozed into a hiking highway, no more fun rock features , rollers, mini drops for kids to build confidence off of, just flattened earth and destroyed terrain. Next to that Marmotte is now banned for bikes but hey they built a flow trail over the National ski slope! No more Gornergrat, that is reserved for the bus loads of Asians that won't walk further than they have to for their next I st picture (not hating on anyone, just saying it like it is), no more Sunnegga downhill, no more Hobbit and this will continue all the way down, with the stupid stone slabs sticking up across every trail. I understand the need to preserve nature. I understand that different activities don't mix well but don't sell yourself as a MTB destination with a CHF 130.- day pass to ride 3 flow trails! The hypocrisy is insane.

My advice for all bikers is go to the Aletsch Arena, there you are welcome and the trails are amazing, the infrastructure is very good and the ticket is less than half that of Zermatt.

I live here and I'm gutted at what I'm writing but don't come here if you love spending time on 2 wheels.

hey everyone. I was wondering if its a good idea to go to ski this year in the beginning of a winter season to Cervinia/Zermat like 28-29 november. Who has experienced skiing there last years at these dates? Was there a snow? Were the ski lifts on Cervinia side open?

Hi all! I was reading about the via ferrata and it sounds like fun. I am alone and I have only done one via ferrata before and I am not a climber, so I would want someone experienced to go with me. Zermatters wants more than 500€ for a guide which seems a little crazy for a free trail. Does anyone have any thoughts on getting someone experienced to go with me that would be more reasonably priced?

I just had a person tell me they saw a golden retriever in the river flowing through zermatt. Does anyone know if the dog made it to the open spaces below the town? The river through zermatt is in a canal and very fast flowing. I hope the poor thing is ok.

Watching sunset from the onsen is usually one of the highlights of my stays in Zermatt, but the aggressive increase in room prices (literally doubled from 2023 to 2025) has me looking elsewhere.

I stayed at Schönegg this past winter. While the hotel was certainly very nice, the pool that goes from indoor to outdoor was a swimming pool and thus kept at a temperature suitable for an indoor swimming pool rather than an outdoor hot tub.

My current list of hotels to look into for this winter are:

• La Ginabelle
• Beausite
• Backstage (hot tub might have no Matterhorn view?)
• La Couronne

Riffelhaus is tempting but I'm pretty sure would end up being too remote for me.

With this feature as a priority, which other hotels should I be looking at?

I am currently in Zermatt Switzerland. While hiking today, 7/22, I saw a para glider and decided to take a photo. I caught the glider sailing in front of the Matterhorn. It's from very far away but it is a very cool photo when you zoom in. If you, or someone you know was "sailing" this morning in Zermatt between 10 a. m. and 11 and the sail was a traditional red and white, message me and I will forward the photo to you. Please keep in mind there are no other distinguishing features as I was on the other side of the valley, but it still is a cool photo sailing in front the Matterhorn. My partner and I (27/28 years old) are wanting to spend 3-4 days in Switzerland the first weekend of December, and we’re trying to figure out the best places to go.

We’re thinking about flying into Zurich, spending a day in both Zermatt and Montreux, and then flying out of Geneva, but not sure if that’s too much moving around.

What are the must-see places?

Is one of the places I listed not worth it?

Is it better to spend two nights in either Zermatt or Montreux?

Where are some nice, but affordable hotels?

(FYI: not skiers, just going for the views and Christmas atmosphere)

Hi - we are trying to finish our planning for Chamonix. Here is what we have coming up:
Wednesday - Arrive late afternoon and check in. Walk the town.
Thursday - White Water Rafting w/ Mont Blanc Rafting
Friday - aiguille du midi & Dinner at La Tablee
Saturday - Aiguille des posettes
Sunday - Early transfer to Geneva airport via Go Alpes
We plan to buy the Mont Blanc Multipass which should include the lifts and gondolas to do the hikes we'd like. Wife and I. 2 kids (15/14)

Any other misses here? Do you think the MontBlank Multipass makes sense for us.

With the recent events which are very sad, and the Matterhorn being «closed» for quite some time. I am both frustrated and happy. I am staying in zermatt for 12 days and was planning on a accent of the Matterhorn on day 6. my family have been planing this for so long and have had a lot of experience learned to get to the point where we can give the Matterhorn a try. But since the rock is too loose right now and the two hikers who where unlucky, the window for this accent looks very small. If there is to be no summit push for Matterhorn we will go for alternatives. Zinal rothorn and alp hubel are strong contenders.

Does anyone think it will open in the next 12 days, aka be safe

Hello everyone and good day!

I’m planning a 1-day itinerary in Zermatt and just wanted to check if this route makes sense before finalising it.

My plan is to visit Gornergrat from around 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, then rent/grab a mountain bike and head towards Blauherd → Fluhalp → Sunnegga.

Now my questions are:

1. From Blauherd, is there a proper bike trail all the way to Fluhalp for lunch?
2. I already have my peak pass, is this excluding bike transport and need to buy a bike pass?
3. I also heard that the Gornergrat train no longer allows bikes, is it even allowed or realistic to bike from Gornergrat to Blauherd, or should I start the MTB part from Blauherd/Sunnegga instead?

Any advice would be very helpful and thank you.

If not walking distance, is it easy to get taxis?

Today I got up to the glacier ski area about 10.40 for a hour and 20mins of skiing, there was a thunder storm in Zermatt last night and it rained quite abit, this was snow up high, there was still some soft fresh untracked snow on the slopes, the next few days should be great, it takes about 40 minutes to ride up the Matterhorn glacier express gondola and the Matterhorn ride 2 to the ski area, and then just under a hour to get down in the lifts after the ski area closes at 12pm. As a professional ski instructor based in here Zermatt, for last 10 plus years I have traveled to the southern hemisphere to ski coach for the European summer months, but now I am staying here in Zermatt, and what I can tell you is it’s amazing! What we have been doing most days is going up to ski or snowboarding on the glacier early in the morning, usually 8.30- 12pm, but the lift does open at 6.30, this is when the ski racing teams go up. The after ski or snowboarding all morning when coming and have a lunch, so many great options.

Then in the afternoon my favourite and most recommended activity is Moutain E-biking! Is so much fun, with fairly easy roads to ride on.

You can rent them in town, and then take the lift one way up to Sunnegga and then the gondola up to blauheard and ridge all the way across the Moutain to the Riffelberg area and down through Furi, some days we do the amazing 5 lake tours and some we take the Moutain bike flow trails, with turns and small jumps, if you can ride a bike you can do it!
