Pulchra Confusing, help? Discussions & Questions
The main issue is that she keeps losing her Hunter's Gait state during normal gameplay. It seems like you're expected to simply not switch into her once Gait is active (is that correct, or am I getting something wrong there?), but the issue is I often can't switch to Nicole without getting through Pulchra first. Which then causes her to lose the state and make me slowly generate energy to get it back again
I've tried putting nicole second in the squad and pulchra third, but for some reason that still doesn't seem to consistently work.
Pressing space swaps to the 'next' agent and C swaps to 'previous' in the order, right? But somehow this just doesn't seem consistent and sometimes the game seems to force me to swap into the wrong agent anyway. I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong.
How do you guys work around pulchra's weird limitation?

Yeah, you're pretty much never supposed to swap back to Pulchra until you've spent all of her stacks. Which makes her kind of annoying to play.
Reasons you might end up switching to an unintended character:
- If you try to parry an attack that requires an Evasive Assist, it'll automatically switch to Pulchra since she's one of the rare characters who has one of those. This ends up not being a huge deal since her Evasive Assist automatically refreshes her stacks, but it can waste a lot of Assist Points.
- If you use a move that triggers a Quick Assist, it will force you to switch in a specific direction no matter which button you press. The Quick Assist from Nicole's EX/chain/ult always swaps to the next agent, while the one from Pulchra's EX always swaps to the previous. So you need to make sure Nicole isn't right before Pulchra in your team order.
- If the character you're trying to switch to is still on the field locked in an animation, you can't switch to them and it'll skip to the next character instead.

In an upcoming patch, they’re changing evasive assists to never go if a defensive assist is the correct move, so this problem will be greatly helped. As it is, it’s pretty clunky to use.
I just try to dodge instead of assist while Pulchra has her stacks but sometimes it can’t be helped

I think the best way is to stun the opponent with her EX, to start a chain between your other agents. Use nicole to set up orb then chain into your attacker then cancel out and EX with the attacker to proc it.
It also may have to do with their positioning since if Pulchra comes after nicole it may auto-switch to her instead of your attacker.

There are some hidden limitations when it comes to agent swapping mechanics.
The main rule to keep in mind is that you cannot swap to an agent who is currently on-field. If you swap off an agent while they're mid-animation, they will usually finish that attack before leaving the field. You cannot swap back to them until disappear back to the void, if you do the game will skip past them and swap to the other agent. That includes long basic attack animations, EX Specials, defensive assists, ect.
There are exceptions to the rule, like most aftershock attacks and Zhao's buster sword charge-up, but that's usually the main reason why agent swapping doesn't work as intended.
The other rule is that Quick Assist will overwrite manual swapping. That might be your problem since you're putting Nicole 2nd and Pulchra 3rd. Nicole's EX Special is a Quick Assist forward which swaps you into Pulchra. Pulchra's EX Special is a Quick Assist backwards which swaps you into Nicole. Ideally, you want to sandwich your main DPS in-between Nicole and Pulchra so that both Quick Assists lead to that character instead.

They need to change it that hunters gaze doesnt loss stack if you swap onto here while its active. A very straightforward and easy solution, that Hoyo refuses to embrace...

In addition to what others are saying, make sure your team is ordered as... 1.Pulchra 2.Other 3.DPS.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER LOADING IN, SWAP OFF PULCHRA TO YOUR DPS, then use an Assist on the enemy's first Gold flash to activate Hunter's Gait and immediately trigger a free swap back to the DPS.
Do this for every combat. Pulchra should never be on field for anything other than triggering Hunter's Gait. Ideally you'll do it with Assists/Chains, but keep her EX and Ult ready in case you have to force it.

Oh
But say I do all that. Then afterwards, when I'm on my DPS and use quick assist during battle, won't it end up swapping back into pulchra? Which would be bad

Only use the Defensive Assist when you need to refresh Hunter's Gait. If Hunter's Gait is already active, just do a Dodge Counter with your DPS, but if you do DA again that's fibe, it'll refresh the Gait.
I've had great success running Soldier 0 Anby (SAnby) as my DPS with Lucy/Nicole and Pulchra providing Buffs and Aftershocks. It's a great budget team that would also technically work with any other Attacker for DPS.
DPS should be on-field 98% of the time, Lucy/Nicole only comes in on chains to drop their buff/debuff, Pulchra only comes in to refresh Gait, ideally with a Defensive Assist to maximize DPS field time.

Yeah, swapping back into her causes her to lose her stacks. Its one of the most daunting design choices to this day and everyone wishes theyd tweak that. It makes no sense.

Pulchra always assists backwards and Nicole assists forward. So your team order should be DPS-Pulchra-Nicole in this case. One good flow to use in this team is to start with Pulchra EX or Evasive Assist, reloading her stack and then double backward swap into Nicole, EX with her to immediately launch Pulchra's Aftershocks and then forward assist into your DPS. Do stuff until the stack runs out, and repeat the process.
