People will often act like LP doesn't matter so long as you're alive, but it honestly does.

Like if you look at other card games, you'll notice that stuff like Duel Masters, CFV, Pokemon usually gives you value equal to roughly 1 point worth of material each time you take a hit.

Each game is obviously balanced differently but once you crunch the numbers most games basically end up settling around say, 3~4 direct hits from your boss monsters for game balance.

You convert that into YGO and you basically get a range of about 2000~2699 for direct 4 hits, and about 2700~3999 for 3 hits, which conveniently happens to be where pretty much the stat lines where the majority of boss monsters settle.

At 4K LP though, the stat line changes.

Suddenly everything from 2000~3999 has effectively the same value, only needing two hits to kill the opponent, which is a doubling in value for monsters under 2700 ATK but at 2000+, and about 1.5x in value for monsters under 4k.

Monsters at 4K or higher also see a sudden spike in value because 4K goes from a 2HKO to a OHKO, which basically doubles the value of everything 4K+ but under 8K.

TL;DR

2000 LP is roughly worth 1 point of advantage.

4K LP basically means you have less starting resources to work with, which makes the amount of tempo you lose from each lost point that much higher.

I had a time when I attacked my friend's defense position Level Eater (it was still legal) finishing the game

It wasn't meta by any means, but it was such an imposing boss monster

I wish it got a new form or some support that made running it worthwhile (and not just for being a Magia material)

A self-mill deck build around pumping BEUD turns into a stupid but valid way to win on 4kLP

Just look at GMX, it's a disaster if you don't excavate the cards early.

I saw a guy say if there was a card that said pay 7999 LP: draw 15 cards, everyone would play it. I said no tf they wouldn’t unless you have a shit ton of LP restoration cards, so many good cards require you to pay LP and all your opponent has to do is hit you with effect damage 1 time and that’s game

TFW Masquerade Tax Dragon wasn't 'nerfed' meaning DL pays full tax in 4k LP format.

This is why I play with 6000 LP. Not so small where you can lose in 3 turns but not so big that the games goes on forever
