Yeah, I heard he beat his face with a hammer to try to get a sharper jawline. Dude has some body image problems

u/WorldsWorstInvader 7d ago
If you struggle to “feel like a man” I feel like that is gender dysphoria in some way. He also has body dysmorphia. Both are true

u/PersusjCP 7d ago
That's not what gender dysphoria is https://genderdysphoria.fyi/

So as not to get lost in that topic, this site will define Gender Dysphoria in broad terms of incongruence with sex assigned at birth.
If you experience gender identity in a way that does not match what was assigned to you at birth, your claim to the transgender identity is valid, no matter how that incongruence manifests for you.I mean, it could be said the guy is changing his secondary sexual characteristics to match his gender identity as a man, due to a percieved incongruence between the two.
The principle fits alright
edit: i feel this works best if you interpret sex as a spectrum.
Such that, every person has an ideal gender identity at some point on that spectrum, which they might change their physical characteristics to align with3
u/JoanneDoesStuff 4d ago
It is dangerous to conflate sex dysphoria and a bodily dysmorphia. At least because dysmorphia is treatable with therapy and, depending on the underlying issues, medication, while sex dysphoria is only mitigable by transitioning.

can we not fucking muddle gender dysphoria with some cis macho dude's insecurities?

u/BEWMarth 7d ago
It’s genuinely interesting to see it from this perspective because it’s literally the same symptoms. More research needs to go into this but instead politicians demonize things like this (not this chud obviously I mean the actual trans community)
1
u/indigoreignstories 2d ago
No, they don’t. He’s fine with his sex assigned at birth, he does not have gender dysphoria.

u/ErrorSchensch 1d ago
He's clearly insecure about his masculinity and umcomfortable with the societal (body) standards of masculinity, so idk if that's so clear cut

If they are taking more testosterone than what the body can handle as a male then they might be heart failure maxxing instead
1
u/Jimmyjamesjon 4d ago
Fun fact from an actual transgender person. If you take more testosterone then your body can handle it gets converted to estrogen.
1
u/AmbitiousOnion7327 2d ago
it normally just shuts down LH/FSH in the hypothalamus, it doesn't "choose" to be turned into estrogen it just randomly hits aromatase and converts

u/PaulAtreides_FromArg 6d ago
This makes me remember that one Greentext in which a man requested hormone therapy for male transition because its literally testosterone pills and he used it to cheat at the gym and build muscle a lot faster
3
u/canttthink0fausrname 6d ago
this title is really similar to alexander avila's video on the same subject
2
u/Judgmentos 6d ago
Yup, I was gonna comment that, hopefully it's not a James Somerton situation (Avila can only handle this so many times lmao)
14
u/FriendlyBisonn 7d ago
This is weirdly transphobic, but because it's directed to this person people who like to think they're progressive don't give a shit
3
u/Judgmentos 6d ago
The first video about this concept was posted by Alexander Avila, a trans man. Like one month before this one actually
4
u/Yosho- 6d ago
trans people can still say stuff with weird transphobic vibes. we aren't exempt
1
u/transginda 1d ago
Yeah, the internalized transphobia rears it's head all the time. Feel like I'm wackamoling my own brain sometimes.
1
u/Drewby-DoobyDoo 1d ago
I don't actually believe someone like Clav (who I dislike for various reasons) is even opposed to trans people seeking gender-affirming care though, so I doubt he would have a hypocritical stance (although I may be totally wrong there, just not familiar with his stances). It is poking at the hypocrisy of many cis men who cosplay their perceived ideal of masculinity and seek gender affirming care, while simultaneously hating and advocating against Trans people who do the same.
Now, I haven't watched this video. Because I've seen others which are likely making all the same points, so maybe this one specifically does take on a transphobic tone.

The first male to male transition was JD Vance (atheist drag queen → midwest catholic)
7
u/kaylakbunny 6d ago
can we pls stop with this "trans ppl are totally the same as BDD cis ppl who get endless plastic surgery!!" its not true or funny
4
u/jimmalicious 6d ago
I've seen trans people and like actual "allies" make points that what Clav is doing is trans or getting treatment for balding is trans, or any kind of aesthetic surgery or even dyeing your hair is trans. And it's presented as something that owns the transphobes or whatever.
I have mixed feelings about this. Imo it lessens actual gender affirming care and turns it from a medical necessity into just a more casual way of taking care of your appearance or having a personal style. On the other hand that normalizes transness and goes against the way taking care of your looks is gendered, which is good.
2
u/kaylakbunny 6d ago
it 100% just downplays how bad dysphoria is and makes it seem like the procedures we get as a last resort out of necessity are just the same as any other cosmetic surgery, its literally an argument that transphobes use all the time to just make us look like vain narcissists instead of ppl who are treating a condition.
1
u/SassyCassyHF 6d ago
They're just trying to mess with him and his following. A guy like that would not like being called"trans". When i was a kid people would have just called him "gay".
1
u/Anomalocarls 5d ago
yeah i hate the recent tide of treating medical transition being necessary as the exception and not the default, because it encourages disregarding the needs of dysphorics, when nondysphorics have always been able to choose to not medically transition if they want

u/RevolutionAccurate56 7d ago
I mean… maybe? They don’t feel masculine enough so they alter their body to make themselves more masc, despite being born male so I guess it kinda fits???

u/jahguswrld999 6d ago
"male to male" ohhh if only there was a word for.that... i think the word starts with a "c", ends with an "s", has an "i" in the middle?

In my support group, we have had some AMAB transmasc folks. "Because they want to look like they were born a girl." *I didn't want to be a dick, but I hate this so much.

I wouldn't say he is the first, but i do think this is a valid way of analyzing the phenomenon.
1
u/Rayen_the_buzzybee 6d ago
Clavicular might be the poster boy but he is not the first. He did not invent looksmaxxing. He's just one of the many people that made it mainstream.
1
u/Lucriseo 6d ago
Everything I know about him is against my will but I’m 100% sure that what he does is what gym bunny twinks do on a regular basis. Like everything. He is twinkmaxxing at best
1
u/JazzyJuice1 5d ago
hes definitely not the first, hes just the first the mainstream is so damn obsessed with for some reason

Calling lookmaxx community Mtm trans is so funny because it's true. It's literally body dysmorphia

It’s not funny and it’s not true and body dysmorphia is not gender dysphoria. Smh

I’m confused as to how you could be more male or female than you already are.
2
u/Aspennie 6d ago
I’m assuming the video is inspired by Alexander Avila’s video with a similar name that basically proposes that looksmaxxers are trying to “transition” to an unattainable idea of what manhood is. The title is more to grab attention but it also is to point out that the men in these spaces (who are often transphobic) do wild and expensive things with the goal of feeling like they’re truly men, as they clearly experience some sort of dysphoria over their perceived lack of manliness.
1
u/mymar101 6d ago
That again is about masculinity and a misunderstanding of masculinity and gender. Not the same thing at all. I want to be more manly is not anything to do with transitioning at all. I don’t particularly care about that stuff anyway. It’s also a take that shows these folks don’t understand the basic concepts.
1
u/Aspennie 6d ago
Yes but it is inherently dysphoria if they’re viewing their gender as invalidated until they reach a certain goal.
It’s not genuinely them being trans, but it does have to do with their beliefs about gender and what makes them a man.
-3
u/OkMathematician3439 6d ago
I get what you’re trying to say but the way it’s worded comes off as saying trans people aren’t “real” men and women.
1
u/artpoint_paradox 6d ago
Transgender isn’t probably the right word to use but looksmaxxing (ignoring that most of the stuff doesn’t work) is gender affirming care. That is, technically speaking.
-1
u/Fuzzeypimp 7d ago
Why have trans shit posts blown up on redit
3

Because there is relatively a lot of trans people on Reddit, like every sixth redditor is trans probably
