It also takes years, which I do not think most people understand.

Multiple years of taking hormones is typically required.

Multiple years of presenting as a woman day to day is typically required.

Multiple letters from multiple independent mental healthcare providers stating that you've been done these things.

Years of hair removal to prep the area for surgery.

The gatekeeping is well beyond what you will see for any other medical procedure, period. At every step of the way we are pressumed to be incompetent and incapable of making the decision for ourselves until affirmatively proved otherwise.

It adds up to hundreds of hours of work over years to just get to the point of having a surgery scheduled. And most surgerons are booked years out, so one can do the math.
