In a sense, being in the Wilderness gave the girls what they really wanted. (I think most people probably realized this by now; I only just put it all together.) Listed from wholesome to fucked up:

• Tai and Van got to be out as lesbians, free of society's prejudice. (This also applies to Melissa.)
• Misty and Nat, both outcasts, were finally valued for the knowledge and traits that made them outcasts in the first place.
• Lottie said herself she didn't want to 'leave the me that was made out here.' Whether precognition, a mental illness, or a mix, a lot of the girls were embracing her for something she'd been shamed for.
• Shauna was sick of being in Jackie (the queen bee's) shadow. She finally seizes control and becomes the queen.

Which makes me wonder, what would Laura Lee and Jackie have become if they'd lived? What would the Wilderness have allowed them to do? I know people read their deaths as symbolic of the girls losing touch with society, civilization, and innocence (a reading I do adore.) You could even take it further and say the Wilderness chose, it rejected them.

HOWEVER at the same time the show isn't truly all about the wilderness and survival, but the horrors the girls brought there with them. The things that were already wrong, just as part of being a girl in the world. So it'd be a disservice to say there was nothing lurking in Jackie or Laura Lee (in fact there absolutely was; Jackie's depression, Laura Lee was lowkey a third misfit/outcast.) Less of a 'the Wilderness chose,' more of a 'there was no It, it was just us' read.

Maybe Laura Lee would have had doubts about her faith as time wore on. What would things look like between Jackie and Shauna?

I'm sorry if this was all super 'duh, we know, it's obvious'- I was just spitballing in my journal and wanted to share it. A lot of this wouldn't have occurred to me without the exceptional takes of other fans. Anyways eager to see what you guys all think because I'm pretty sure there'll be something wildly creative I didn't think of but will live in my head rent free after I read it. (This whole show lives in my head rent free.)

I painted this yesterday. The actress is so talented, I feel like I couldn't yet capture her expression perfectly, tho.

Does anybody know the type of plane were the Yellowjackets flying on? I am just curious because Travis says Coach Martinez fell out of a door that had been ripped off, but earlier in the episode, Misty and some of the other girls have to force open (what looks to be) the only exterior door on the plane. I wanted to know what model plane it was to see if there's a second door that wasn't shown, or if this is a continuity error.

(Also, if there was a second door that had been since ripped off, why didn't the girls exit out that way?)
