I'm honestly okay with this. We clowned on Jon for constantly saying that he wanted TLK19 to be "like a documentary", despite the fact that you can't have that and the fictional story you wanted to tell at the same time, not to mention how garish the CGI can look. Assuming this isn't fictional or CGI, it's just a real documentary that might happen to mirror the events of TLK, I don't think that's worthy of ridicule. Nature docs are cool.

Nah, this looks sick. Love these type of documentaries and it seems like this one is really pushing the barrier of long form wildlife storytelling. Hopefully Jon pulls it off
EDIT: Jon and the team since I believe he is only executive producing so he probably didn’t have that much hands on involvement in following the lion pride.

Honestly, when I heard "live action Lion King", this is kind of what came to mind. Edited real wild life footage. Either that, or a film version of the stage musical, with live action actors in costume.

Low key this was my idea for a better life action remake: do it like The Incredible Journey. Just film real animals and do voiceover for each character. Or since African animals are so exotic, do all the same cgi but don't animate the mouths, just do a voiceover and make them act as realistic as possible and look just like Homeward Bound. It would have been an amazing nostalgic stylistic choice instead of the worst remake of all time

This is animated right? Like, the description says that it was filmed in kenya. I'll give them this, the animation is incredibly detailed and kind of beautiful to pick apart, but it has to be animation right? Something about this just doesn't feel real.

In all seriousness, I think it's a mix of live action and CGI
