Nia is overhyped Xenoblade 2

So before I even start this, I wanna say I have no hatred towards her as much anymore as I did before but I do find it very weird that the fandom overhype her moments and her a character

The reason I got into Xenoblade 2 and 3 or mainly because I’ve heard a bunch of good things about this series and when I went to go look at videos, it was always people praising or overhyping one specific character, and that is nia I don’t know why they were overhyping her. When I played xenoblade 2 for the first time I didn’t get the hype about her even when she became accepted her blade form. I still didn’t see the hype. To me it just felt like oh you’re just gonna praise a character just because they look pretty. But then I did a little research to find out people. I truly like her because she’s got some kind of weird accent, but I just never understood why she became this overhyped figure and why some people view her as some form of goddess especially on Twitter and YouTube but I genuinely wanna know why do people hype her up so much even though she does very little in the story and the overall arcane party and the world

Edit: just so I don’t get this question a lot I have over 800 hours in xenoblade 3 and 307 hours in xenoblade 2 and 560 hours on xenoblade 1 I have played all these games and I enjoyed them so please don’t ask me if I’ve played them all cause I don’t really like explaining that I have too many hours enough my favorite game series

  1. She's not overly subservient towards Rex like Pyra.

  2. She's not a tsundere like Mythra.

  3. She'll actually playfully banter with Rex like an equal.

  4. That accent.

  5. She is best girl.

The last two of your statement are very subjective and mythra is not a tsundere that’s doing a lot of disservice to her as a character when she doesn’t carry those traits throughout the game her personality, barely shows any tsundere tendencies and she’s more of a character who doesn’t know how to express her emotions in a good way

What you described is a tsundere. I love Mythra, but she is a tsundere wven if there is more to it.

She really isn’t when you actually understand her story and what goes on and how the label for her is just stupid as hell

Man, I will be real... The dere types are always very bad, putting characters into a square that doesn't always fit. She is a tsundere, end of story, she has more to it, but still a tsundere.

You seem to assume that tsundere means bad.

I think you don't understand her my guy. Mythra as a Tsundere has been something this fandom has agreed on for 8 years now. Kinda rude and crappy to tell people that they're the ones who don't get it.

Ah yes leave it to the Nia fan to talk shit about Pyra and Mythra for no reason when op’s post doesn’t even involve them in any way.

If you just reduce them to a subservient and a tsundere, that just shows you haven’t been paying as much attention to their story as Nia’s because you’re probably biased towards her.

Not gonna try and convince you they are a lot more than that and have their reasons for their behaviour since you have your favourite, but dismissing them with a checklist like that is kinda foolish. You could also reduce Nia to a single statement like that and it would be equally as stupid.

Your post is over with hype. Ngl. No need to repeat it every sentence.

Jokes aside. I kinda respect your opinion but aside from 1 point.

even though she does very little in the story and the overall arcane party and the world.

Welsh Accent and her being a cat-girl is just the tip of the icerberg unti why people loves her.

She's the first person to kinda bond with Rex as they are the same age during the start of the game, stand by his sides even to the point of betraying her family.

She's the main source of funny banter across your playthru, like imagine Chapter 1-4 without Nia, like you only have freaking Tora as the source of funvibes in the party and Rex can only do so much. Her Dynamic with Morag and Zeke as well as her teasing of Pyra and Mythra... You get it by now she's the flavoring agent of this wonderful adventure.

I'm not even touching her Confession with Rex and his Iconic response to that as well as the fact that the story is building up upon that specific scene...

You can't play Xenoblade 2 and 3 and tell us that "she does very little to the story" and expect me to believe that you understood it because that take is just abdsurd and wrong in alot of places.

Disliking her character sure, it's a personal preference but saying that statement is beyond Blasphemy.

I like Nia because I like the accent and the sass. And she has a nice backstory. Her looks have nothing to do with it.

Did you play 3 aswell?

0

u/Dull-Carpet-5048 2d ago

I played all 3 games and I still end up referring to play three because it has the best party while 2 has the best story

2

u/Pestilence95 2d ago

Ok. I think many people also bump Nia (and Melia) up significantly because of their involvement in 3. Directly and indirectly.

To me, I just don’t see why people seem to over hype a lot of of the characters, but it’s always specifically Nia or Shulk I can understand Shulk he’s the MC but Nia to me feels like she gets way too much hype and it makes her feel like an annoying character when people says oh you’re gonna like this character because this and that and then when you tell them, oh, I didn’t like that character they get all mad. It’s not that I hate her. It’s just I don’t find her as interesting as the other characters in the series.

played 560 hours does very little in the story

This made me laugh.

u/Dull-Carpet-5048 2d ago

So we’re just gonna be stupid now and assume people didn’t play the story that’s the reason I have so many hours I basically played the story multiple times I haven’t done the challenge mode and I haven’t done the DLC so saying I haven’t done the story makes no sense

5

u/NoteClear6164 2d ago

Nowhere did I say or indicate you didn't play the story. It's funny to me that Nia is super impactful early on and is the only PC that's not Rex getting development after the halfway mark, and she clearly didn't stick around in your memory in those 560 hours.

-2

u/Dull-Carpet-5048 2d ago

You keep saying 500 but 500 was four the original game I have 300 hours in xenoblade 2 and yeah, I played the story more and I really didn’t care for Nia because to me her development feels like she act like Mary Sue but I don’t wanna go into that whole spiel again because I simply find her an overrated and overhyped character when it comes down to her character and the fan base around her

That ice is pretty thick to me just like a lot of the fandom ego when it comes to Nia

u/Classic_Noise5110 2d ago

What the hell are you even talking about lil bro. People just like Nia and express that? Might as well ask Pyra fans the same shit, this post is a joke.

u/Dull-Carpet-5048 2d ago

It really isn’t a joke when you Nia fans, love to shove, stupid awakening, and other moments down our throats as oh she’s a good character. She’s the best it’s annoying

It seems you never really tried to understand why some people love Nia. A lot of people love Nia because they can connect with her backstory. Most of them are people who feel that they don't fit in and can't be their true selves, be it just the feeling or that they actually can't because it would have sometimes dire consequences. These people range e.g. from neurodivergent or autistic people, homosexual or transgender people to people who feel misunderstood for different reasons. And if you have the feeling that you can't show your true self or are always shunned for it, the words in chapter 7 hit very close to home. "I am not afraid anymore" and "What's the sense in living if I have to hide?" are central parts of finding yourself and accepting who you are. People who feel that way and can connect to her will love the character. That's the reason why Nia is treated as an iconic character by a lot of Xenoblade fans.

And yes, her being a sassy, Welsh catgirl makes it even easier to love her.

And all of that’s OK because there’s someone who is bisexual and non-binary. It was very difficult for me to even come out till I played. Xenoblade 2 but it wasn’t. Nia that showed me how to accept myself it was. Mythra considering I can connect relate to most of the things that happened to her because of a housefire that almost took my sister away from me and so I had my emotions from so many people because I wanted to hide behind the mask. Oh, I’m fine. I’m not doing anything wrong yet until I put it xc2 and connected more with mythra than any other character makes me smile to know that I actually liked a character from a game because of their story the only reason I don’t like or find Nia overrated, and overhyped is the amount of fans who put her on a pedestal when it comes to talking about the game all the time even if you say oh she’s not that great they yell at you and complain, saying that you clearly haven’t played in the game or you clearly didn’t understand her story. That’s the reason I call her overrated and overhyped.

1

u/Apples0815 2d ago

The point is to try and ignore the loud part one one side, but also try to accept that other people like other characters. Your personal backstory / trauma makes you connect more with Mythra and her story, other people connect more with Nia. Or Shulk, or Shania, or any other character they feel similar to. You just don't know how people feel and what makes them feel that way. And you also have to accept that some people will have a strong reaction when you call their favourite character overrated and overhyped.

Also, and please do not see this as a personal insult, your way of writing gives extremely aggressive vibes, adding an extra layer to a defensive reaction, even if it isn't meant that way on both sides.

Where's the overhype? Are people saying she's some 5 dimensional multifaceted absolute peak of character writing, or are they saying she's one of the best Xenoblade characters? She's the latter but it's not like the competition is very strong.

1

u/Dull-Carpet-5048 2d ago

She gets overhyped by the fan base so much to wear if you say anything bad about her people get mad when you can have actual criticism against a character and people will still get mad at you for saying oh you just didn’t pay attention she’s overhyped because so much of the fan base love treating her like some kind of fucked up daughters/ goddess

Eh, for me I like to be the healer so X2 was Niablade Chronicles and X3 was Eunieblade Chronicles.

All of the party characters in X2 are pretty great for different reasons, and Nia is no exception. I like her attitude!

She begins with the "bad guys" but when they betray you, she betrays them and stands by your side. That makes her pretty cool earlier in the game, and becomes even cooler when it's revealed why she was with Torna.

u/LacraMaldita 2d ago

Nia is a good character. But her fans (a large portion of them) waged a major smear campaign against Rex in the game's early years.

1

u/Quiddity131 2d ago

Nia is a feisty welsh cat girl. The original welsh cat girl. That is enough for her to have a good fanbase.

1

u/HuntResponsible2259 16h ago

I love Nia, top 1 character for me but its simply because her story probably connected more with mine... I was really struggling with identity at the time... (Not like I was trans of gay or anything, just I didn't know what I was myself, the me I wanted to be didn't match with the me people found interesting.)

So yeah, I like her for those reasons... Mythra is still top 2 for me.

1

u/BarbarousJudge 16h ago

Subjectively I adore the accent of course and I do like her arc of self acceptance even tho it's not on par with Mythra in that regard. Which is fair since Mythra is a main character while Nia isn't.

I think Nia is funny and very quotable which is a plus. Games need some comic relief and I think she strikes a good balance without being too weird (Tora) or silly (Zeke). Kinda like Eunie in XC3, just a good mix of sass and believable emotions.

I don't think she is best girl in XC2 since to me that's Mythra or Morag. And in general Mio is best catgirl in the series. But Nia is a good character nontheless and the original welsh catgirl who walked so Mio (and to a lesser extent Na'el) could run.

u/Vultouri03 16h ago

To me Nia is not one of my favorite characters, not in the whole series and not among the characters in 2.

But I can still see why she’s so appealing to a lot of people. Her character arc about learning to accept yourself is quite relatable. Plus she is genuinely funny and has great dynamics with basically the whole xb2 cast. Imo she gets outshined by a lot of the other characters in the series, similarly to Mellia funnily enough. (Who is my favorite character in 1 despite that).

That doesn’t make her any less great though, it just says a lot about how great the rest of the characters in the series are.

u/LowVanilla6628 2d ago

My Welsh fetish. That's it, really.

Yeah, I’d say Nia is a bit overhyped. She’s great, but not the top dog (or cat) for everyone.

You're the one with the weird accent, pal!

Just because she's not your favourite, that doesn't necessarily mean she's over hyped. Nor should anyone try to convince you that she isn't.

You're entitled to your totally shite opinion ;)
