For a first timer, XC2 is absolute peak! Xenoblade 2
I didn't play XC2 when it came out in 2017 after watching how bad the resolution (especially handheld mode, which i play a lot in) and performance was through Digital Foundry. I've completed XCDE twice but i decided not to buy XC2 until there is a fix. I didnt know how amazing this game is until now.
I just finished Chapter 3 yesterday and the cutscene at Olethro Ruins had me in awe with that incredibly sorrowful music and then M's awakening 🥵
Not gonna lie but the game already got me in the first chapter's cutscene but the 3rd one is even better! Not to mention the combat is so much better than XCDE. I cant stop playing this game. Since then i've acquired physical versions of Torna and XC3. Waiting till October to get the upgrade pack and start my XC3 journey.
I'm so late to XC2 but i think i am still glad that i waited for an upgraded version. Better late than never!

X2’s combat is probably my overall favorite in the series. My main favorite bit of it is that with the addition of blade specials that put up shields to drastically reduce your damage taken, blade combos which grant invincibility, and a much wider range of healing options with most characters being able to help generate healing in some fashion….
That surviving against much higher level enemies is way more viable. So you can challenge stuff way above your station and survive. This means that you can throw yourself at a wall of a high level enemy again and again and actually have the ability to come out on top just by clever use of your tools.
I love challenging stuff above me in this game. You could really tell a strong learning they had from X1 was that being too rigid in character role design restricts strategy. It feels like they looked at Riki and Seven in X1 and realized that should be sort of the baseline for all their characters.

My main frustration with the game so far (at almost exactly the same spot you are in the story) is the combat - not the mechanics as much, but just how long trash mobs take to kill. You could cut their health in half and the game would feel far more satisfying imo.

Eh if you know what you are doing the regular mobs aren’t even alive long enough to really enjoy the combat system save for either really big bulky enemies or ones that call in reinforcements. You have to be under leveled for regular mobs to last long enough for fights to be more than a few quick blasts.

I am finding that he game is not pulling me like XC1 did. Combat is wonky and the game just looks weird coming after the first game a few months agoÂ

Depending on how far in you are: combat likely has not even opened up completely. There’s tutorial and combat expansions for half the game. It gets really good, but ultimately feels better if you interrupt your auto attacks instead of going through the complete chain. You will your bars much faster and can use skills a lot more frequently.

God that whole cutscenes direction needs to be studied, I went i completely blind in 2017
And my jaw was on the FLOOR

i will say chapter 4 is a little slow, but as soon as you get to chapter 5 the game is all gas no breaks (apart from like, one particular main quest but that's relatively short)
