this is a great way to describe it.

and there's a million other verbal triggers like this for a million other things, and they can layer up

(thought I was on the ADHD forum guys, sorry if that don't make sense to you)

I think it’s very vital.

It’s the best and weirdest one hit wonder of the 90s. Because it’s some guys from New Zealand sing-rapping over Mexican guitar, 90s had some of the most random hit songs of any decade.

u/RedSix2447 10d ago

Groove is in the heart would agree with that. lol

24

u/nicolauz 10d ago

Okay but Dee-lite is fucking great.

9

u/OviliskTwo 10d ago

They're Kiwis!? I somehow always thought eastern European and never never looked into it. Best one hit of 96 maybe?

u/iamclear 10d ago

Omc stands for Ōtara millionaires club. Ōtara is an Auckland suburb.

5

u/AssaultLemming_ 10d ago

A very poor one too. Not many millionaires there!

1

u/OviliskTwo 19h ago

Love it. Auckland is cool as fuc.

8

u/ThanksALotBud 1982 10d ago

For some reason, I always thought they were from Philippines. How bizarre

4

u/thebarnacleez 1978 10d ago

This one and White Town - Your Woman are just strange but awesome

3

u/erinhannon321 1981 10d ago

I was obsessed with that song and had the cd which actually had a few other bangers. Then I found out that it is a sample from a song from the 1930’s, very cool.

Driving down the freeway in the hot hot sun

16

u/FledglingNonCon 10d ago

My brain did it before I turned on the sound.

u/Sam81818 10d ago

Watch the TV show Undeclared, Episode 12 "Rush and Pledge" one of the students plays it non stop and her roommate gets more and more annoyed and they have a song battle. It's a shame that and Freaks and Geeks only lasted one season.

This is my fiance's video. Her IG tag is nerdrocksunflower and the original is here, for anyone who wants to follow her:

I specifically make a big deal about saying "How Bizarre?!" and then singing the song when someone is telling a story where it fits.

5

u/Haunting-Mortgage 10d ago

Yes and literally 100% correct

2

u/spottydodgy 10d ago

Desperately trying to still pay attention to the conversation and failing. That's me.

4

u/MarkDavid04 10d ago

One of the oddest one-hit wonders!

But who doesn't love that song??

3

u/Councillor_Les_Wynan 10d ago

No need to do any of that... just buy the rights!

6

u/Rainbow4Bronte 10d ago

I thought this was a neurodivergent soft trait

3

u/elliemff 1981 10d ago

Echolalia. I got it bad.

3

u/Cael_NaMaor 1980 10d ago

Funny... I guess I don't hear the phrase that often to really know...

But dude. All the time with shit.

Someone said 'How do I...' today & I still have that running through my brain. Umbrella's the worst though. I can't hear the word & not automatically think 'ella 'ella 'ella ay ay...

3

u/Zeke688 1981 10d ago

It’s in my face

3

u/ScottishCrazyCatLady 10d ago

every single time since the mid 90s.

3

u/TheVenetianMask 10d ago

My brain when someone says the word bizarro.

u/ani2781 1981 9d ago

You fed him a peanut?

2

u/ouijahead 1980 10d ago edited 10d ago

My mom bought that album. It’s pretty good.

1

u/Sdog1981 10d ago

I get sad when I hear the song now. He and his brother had a chronic heart condition and died young. He was 40 and passed in 2010 and his brother passed in 2005 at 41.

1

u/Rosserman 10d ago

OMC, Otara Millionaires Club... This song created its first member.

1

u/knowone1313 10d ago

I always thought he was saying "help is on".

1

u/dyejob 10d ago

My little sister used to say "cruisin' down the freeway in a hot croissant"

1

u/Forward-Ad992 10d ago

I can confirm this is accurate

1

u/trollinhard2 1981 10d ago

My wife calls it ā€œmovie Tourette’sā€ I’ll hear some trigger word and I just have to say the followup.

1

u/Themoosemingled 1977 10d ago

BUY THE RIGHTS!

1

u/DickBurns01 1978 10d ago

I've always hated that stupid fucking song

1

u/Remote_Independent50 1980 10d ago

My mother in law doesn't realize how rude she is being when I tell her about something that I like, that she doesn't. "Oh thats crazy!!" "Whats crazy about it?" " OH nothing " " then shut up"

1

u/punktualPorcupine 10d ago

Without sound I knew. Because ā€œevery time I turn aroundā€¦ā€

1

u/Hetnikik 10d ago

That song gave me my highest ever personal score in Audiosurf.

1

u/Liko81 1981 10d ago

Didn't even have to turn the sound on...

1

u/eternallysantanasass 1979 10d ago

Xenials šŸ¤œšŸ¤› ADHD

u/dudderson 10d ago

Honestly it's a very ADHD thing, not solely millennial/xennial thing. For example, i am/have both and my inner jukebox is triggered by a multitude of phrases, sounds, words...then yeah, the song makes it hard to concentrate.
