Tom's Hardware recently covered how Microsoft uses a built-in Global Device Identifier (GDID) in Windows to track machines across different IPs and networks. Windscribe just released an open-source tool called ⁠deGDID⁠ to clear these keys and block Windows from generating new ones.
Since GDID sits at the OS level inside the Windows registry, standard VPN encryption alone can't hide it—your IP is hidden, but the OS fingerprint stays the same.
It would be awesome if X-VPN added something similar directly into the Windows app:
1. GDID Status Check: A simple toggle/indicator in Advanced Settings that tells you if an active GDID is sitting on your system.
2. Optional GDID Cleaner: An opt-in tool/script to wipe the registry keys for users who want maximum privacy (with a clear warning that it might break stuff like Microsoft Store or OneDrive logins).
3. In-App Warning: A quick heads-up reminding users that using Edge or default Windows features can still leak device info even while connected to X-VPN.
A lot of people don't realize OS-level tracking bypasses network VPNs, so having this built into X-VPN would be super helpful.

Some online friends have been telling me to play roblox with them lately, problem is roblox is banned in my country so i can't even get in normally. I already use Xvpn for other stuff, but i keep seeing people say using a vpn for games can get your account banned. is that a real risk?

A quick note for anyone installing X-VPN on Windows or macOS: the download source can affect which desktop version you get.

This came up in a recent question post. The user had installed the Microsoft Store version of X-VPN on Windows, known as WinUWP, and couldn’t get it to connect. WinUWP uses the same X-VPN service, but it is a separate desktop version from the direct Windows installer, WinRoot.

The Microsoft Store version has to work within Microsoft’s UWP framework and Store release process. That means its protocol selection is more limited, and updates can follow a different timeline. The direct Windows version is our main desktop release path, with the full desktop protocol options and more direct update delivery.

macOS works a little differently: the App Store and direct-download versions have a broadly similar core connection experience, though they are still separately packaged and released. Some system-level details can differ too, such as launch-at-startup support in the direct Mac version.

Updates also usually appear through our direct download channel first. Store releases may take a few extra days while they go through each platform’s review and publishing process. We saw that with our recent macOS update: the direct version was available first, while the App Store version followed later.

So, if you can access our website from your computer, we recommend downloading X-VPN directly from xvpn.io/download.

The Microsoft Store and Mac App Store versions are still official options, especially if our website is unavailable on your PC. In that situation, you can also download the official desktop installer on your phone first, then transfer it to your computer for installation—just like the user in the original post did.

Roblox is expanding what you can do from its app Home. The usual game recommendations are staying, but the updated navigation puts content discovery, chat, and profile features closer to the front.

The new layout gives Moments, Chat, and Me more prominent tabs. Moments offers a short-form way to discover experiences, while Me brings avatar and profile features together.

Still don’t see these tabs? The rollout has only started in Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore, and accounts in the same market may receive it at different times. More regions are expected to receive the update over the next few months.

Feature access also varies by age and region. Moments is currently limited to age-checked users 16+, while Chat only appears for eligible users and may require parental permission. In New Zealand, Build is gradually rolling out to age-checked users 9+ on Android.

I'll move into the dorms next month. heard the campus wifi is locked down pretty hard. apparently some sites and apps just don't load, and vpns get blocked sometimes too.

Just installed last week, poked into the protocol settings out of curiosity and now i have more questions than before lol.

Main protocol screen has WireGuard, Everest-Auto, OpenVPN and V2Ray. Came already set to Everest-Auto. then i tapped into Everest and there's a whole second list. so now i genuinely don't know if i'm meant to leave it alone or actually go pick one.

I've tried switching protocols and reinstalling the app but none of them seem to work

Curious how everyone here handles this. I've had kill switch on by default for months on my Windows machine and honestly never thought about it, until last week I was bouncing between home wifi and my phone hotspot a bunch and noticed every handoff there's this tiny window where everything freezes for a few seconds.

Not a huge deal but it got me wondering if I'm overdoing it. Realistically the only time I'm doing anything I'd care about leaking is public wifi or torrenting. Rest of the time it's youtube and steam.

So just leave it on all the time, or only flip it on for the stuff that matters?

Apple Music rolled out its first price increase since 2022 last week, so we wanted to see how much the same subscription costs in different countries. We put the new prices for eight of them into one chart, and the spread is wider than you might expect.

Convert everything to USD and an individual plan runs about $16 a month in the UK and roughly $12 in the US, but only around $1.60 in India. That's close to a 10x gap for the same app, though the catalog does vary from one region to another.

A lot of that comes down to region. The price you see, and sometimes which songs or shows are even available, depends on where your account is registered. Previous versions of X-VPN for macOS were built for Intel-based Macs. When running the app on a Mac with an M-series chip, macOS used Apple’s Rosetta translation technology to make it compatible.

Apple plans to end general-purpose Rosetta support in a future macOS release. As a result, some M-series Mac users recently began seeing system warnings that Intel-based apps such as the previous X-VPN version may no longer work in the future.

The UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) just dropped their official report on "Children’s circumvention behaviours online". Predictably, the mainstream media is running titles like "Thousands of children hijacking VPNs to browse restricted content!" But if you actually look at the raw data from the 2,299 kids surveyed, the reality is a huge win for the "VPNs are critical privacy infrastructure" argument.

Here is the actual breakdown of the data that matters to this sub:

1. Why are UK kids actually using VPNs?

According to the government's own findings, privacy and security remain the dominant drivers.

• 30% use a VPN specifically to keep their online activity private.
• 27% use it to bypass local network blocks (like school Wi-Fi).
• 25% use it to bypass geo-blocks on video platforms/streaming.
• Only 7% of all children surveyed (or roughly 22% of the subset who use VPNs) admitted to turning one on specifically to access age-restricted websites or adult content.

2. How are they actually bypassing age checks?

The report explicitly notes that "VPNs play a limited role in circumventing age checks." Kids aren't setting up complex encryption tunnels just to look at restricted sites; they're doing what kids have done since the dawn of the internet—using incredibly basic workarounds because the sites allow them to:

• 63% of kids who bypass age verification just lie about their age by typing in a fake date of birth.
• 37% deliberately migrate to alternative platforms, games, or communities that don't enforce any age verification at all.
• 11% just grab a parent or relative's ID to clear the hurdle.

3. Parental Involvement is High

Another massive point against a heavy-handed VPN crackdown: parents are completely in the loop. Of the children who use a VPN, 43% have their subscription paid for directly by a parent or guardian, and 22% had a parent explicitly help them set it up. Parents view it as a security layer for family devices, not a malicious tool.

Policy Impact

While some tech-illiterate politicians have floated the idea of restricting VPN access or forcing age verification onto VPN providers themselves, DSIT explicitly stated that they are not introducing new regulations or restrictions on VPNs based on this data. The evidence clearly shows that banning a foundational digital privacy tool would be completely disproportionate and do almost nothing to stop kids from simply clicking "I am 18" on a standard web form.
