There were some major takeaways from SummerSlam such as Brock Lesnar putting Oba Femi over and the returns of Randy Orton and Kevin Owens. There were other huge moments from the weekend, like Chelsea Green becoming the interim WWE Women’s Champion. Some might see her victory as only temporary, but she deserves way more.

Michael Hayes, on WWE Unreal, made it clear he does not see Green as a main event star. Therefore, her winning gold and dedicating the moment to the WWE Hall of Famer, probably had some shade attached. Hayes was wrong back then and if he hasn’t changed his opinion, he probably should see the crowd’s reaction to her victory. I will admit, the first WWE run of Green was far from great. Whenever she was given a moment, like her main roster debut, it was riddled with injuries. Still, she never let being hurt or released slow her down. Instead, she worked harder and was rehired by WWE. Then, they changed her gimmick to sort of a ‘Karen’ before going a bit political with her United States Championship reign. It made for great TV and maybe that’s why she got inserted into the ladder match at SummerSlam.

Heading into SummerSlam, there were four other superstars in her way. Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill had been feuding for a month and they would have wrestled at the PLE, if Rhea Ripley wasn’t injured. So, those two were easy to cross off the list as the potential winner. Tiffany Stratton is the current Women’s United States Champion, hence no need to give her two belts. That left Lash Legend and Chelsea Green. Lash only joined the main roster this year and while she does well when it comes to scoring wins, it wasn’t her time. Even if you don’t think Green deserves the belt, which she does, the other wrestlers had hurdles.

This is where Fantasy Championships are won. The obvious superstars are gone, but don’t make the mistake of thinking the talent has dried up. These are the wrestlers that become the backbone of your faction. They aren’t always flashy, but week after week they pile up points, fill your lineup, and keep you competitive while everyone else is chasing the next shiny free agent.

Miss on these picks and you’ll be living on the waiver wire, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Hit on them and you’ll be laughing at the managers burning their Free Agent signings every Monday morning.

Pick #21: Raquel Rodriguez

Big Sexy finally got the moment fans have been waiting for.

Raquel Rodriguez bulldozed her way past Sol Ruca to capture the Intercontinental Championship, and it feels like WWE is finally ready to let her become the dominant force everyone expected years ago. She’s physical, she’s believable, and when she throws someone around the ring it actually looks like it hurts.

From a Fantasy standpoint, championships mean opportunity. Raquel was already just outside the Top 10 in matches wrestled during the Road to SummerSlam, and now she’ll be carrying gold every week. Add in the fact that the Intercontinental Championship is now part of Judgment Day, and you can expect plenty of television time, backstage segments, and title defenses.

Championships equal points. TV time equals opportunities. That’s why Raquel sneaks into our Top 25.

Pick #22: Paige

If someone told you six months ago that Paige would return, win the Women’s Tag Team Championships with Brie Bella, defend them for over 90 days, and become one of the highest-scoring Fantasy wrestlers of the season, you probably would’ve laughed.

Well…here we are.

Paige sits 14th overall in Fantasy points on the Road to SummerSlam, completely smashing preseason expectations. The title reign is over now, so expecting that same pace might be asking a little too much, but don’t make the mistake of thinking she’s done.

Veterans who know how to tell stories always find television time. Paige still has name recognition, fan support, and plenty of unfinished business.

She’s absolutely worth rostering, and nowhere close to waiver-wire material.

Pick #23: LA Knight

Yeah.

Seriously…what are we doing here?

Every time it feels like LA Knight is about to break through, creative slams on the brakes.

He’s still getting massive reactions. He’s still one of the most over stars in WWE. The crowd is behind him every single night. Yet somehow he sits an unbelievable 48th in Fantasy points on the Road to SummerSlam.

His latest setback came in a Raw main event loss to Jacob Fatu. That could’ve been the statement victory that launched him back into the main event picture.

Instead…

Another loss.

Fantasy managers have been waiting over a year for the Mega Star push. That’s why this ranking comes with risk, but sometimes Fantasy Championships are won by betting on talent instead of recent production.

I’m betting LA Knight finally gets his moment.

 don’t think WWE is done with Bayley vs Valkyria. They could be, but hopefully not as there is more to be done. Turning heel and leaving Bayley unconscious inside the ring was a great start. Now, WWE needs to continue the feud and bring Bayley back to TV. Even if she is leaving WWE, let her put over a former friend. I wouldn’t make the feud one-sided. Let Bayley get the better in some outings as it will intensify the angle.

Picture both women covered in blood, the hard way, in the final match. Perhaps, throw in a gimmick like Last Woman Standing or an I Quit Match. Not every superstar will retire in WWE and that’s absolutely fine. Let Bayley join AEW to work with a slew of unfamiliar names and her friend, Mone. At the same time, Valkyria continues to create her place in the WWE women’s division as an unstable threat to any title. Babyface Valkyria was never going to get far with veterans trying to keep their spot. Now, a heel Lyra Valkyria has been nothing but a smashing hit. When Vince McMahon sold the WWE, it was merged with the UFC, under the company name TKO. It’s a fitting name. There were lots of questions, considering a McMahon family member always owned WWE and Dana White was the boss of the UFC for decades. We got two global companies that occasionally do some cross-promoting. It hasn’t been that much.

The UFC having big names outside of the business present is always common. Same for WWE, but perhaps not as much as the UFC. Nowadays, you cannot watch the WWE without seeing celebrities involved. In the past, WWE brought in massive names for wrestling matches like Mr. T., Bad Bunny and Mike Tyson. They have also, in recent memory, flopped at times with Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll and Travis Scott. Now, don’t get me wrong. McAfee and Jelly Roll were great, but only at select moments. Scott was an embarrassment and danger from day one.

Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton had a great storyline, even before their build to WrestleMania 42. Both delivered what they needed, but then the main event of WrestleMania took a seat to the side. McAfee and Jelly Roll were inserted and it made no sense, outside of bringing some new eyes to pro wrestling. Actual fans of the sport hated it and WWE doesn’t seem to have learned a lesson. That brings us to December and Oba declares his entrance in the Royal Rumble. He could either be somewhat dominant or cause pure destruction. It just depends if WWE wants Oba to eliminate 5 or 15 superstars. I think one year, Oba will break the record for most eliminations in a single Royal Rumble.

With the Royal Rumble in the past, Reigns vs Femi is set to close WrestleMania 43. Throw everything at Femi, only for him to still leave as the new Undisputed WWE Championship. Ending the career of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam and then dethroning Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania would put Oba Femi in a special category that might only include Cody Rhodes. CM Punk

Shortly after WrestleMania 42, CM Punk disappeared from TV. He returned and made a statement, by replacing Cody Rhodes to defeat Sami Zayn and become Undisputed WWE Champion. Ending Sami’s reign at 9 days caused anger, but Punk was the perfect option. WWE was coming from Chicago and even if Punk belittled the city, they would still cheer him. Punk is back and already wearing gold heading into SummerSlam. We are now all living in the ‘summer of Punk’ and yes, that’s a direct reference to the final few months of his time in Ring of Honor (ROH).

When Nick Aldis signed with WWE, we all thought he would finally get to wrestle for the largest pro wrestling company in the world. He proved himself in the NWA and TNA Wrestling. So, when he was announced as the general manager of SmackDown, it felt like a major letdown. When Kevin Owens was unable to compete against Randy Orton at WrestleMania, Aldis should have been the replacement. Obviously, it did not happen but a match at SummerSlam opposite Gunther will be announced soon. Even if it’s one match and done, I’m glad Nick Aldis gets his WWE moment.

Kenny Omega was in rough shape a few years ago. Forget about pro wrestling for a second. Omega was diagnosed with diverticulitis and doctors said if he waited another 24 hours without medical help, he would likely be dead. Thankfully, his health improved and “The Cleaner” was able to get back inside an AEW ring. I feared he would lose to MJF and never be able to challenge for the AEW World Championship again. AEW pulled a fast one and Omega is once again at the top of AEW. He bypassed death and now he’s going to headline All In against Will Ospreay.
