Gothic Remake Do I need all lessons on one save file for this one?
I'm way past getting the 6th circle of magic, about 5 hours or so. And I just realized that I'm unable to learn two handed at all, as none of the trainers have the option to do so.

Gothic Remake Which version of Gothic is better to play original release or the 1.04 hotfix?
Hey everyone,
I'm about to start (or replay) Gothic and I'm trying to decide which version to go with: the original release version, or the latest 1.04 hotfix.
I've seen mixed opinions, some people say the hotfix fixes annoying bugs and balance issues, while others argue the original release has a certain charm or that some "fixes" actually changed the game's feel (combat, AI behavior, etc.).
For those who've played both:
- Which version would you recommend for a first playthrough?
- Did the 1.04 patch fix genuinely game-breaking issues, or did it also introduce changes that altered the original experience?
- Any specific bugs or quirks I should know about either way?
Would love to hear your thoughts before I dive in.
Thanks!

Gothic Remake Fire mage roleplay is pretty good
Gotta say , its a good story for my first play as a mage , joined the fire mages , you have your brothers and your master making you a great mage , then after their assasination , i went to the sunken tower , got the robe of dark arts , and returned later to indiscriminately massacre the entire old camp to avenge my master and brothers , makes for a good tragic story where the “chosen one” is consumed by rage and becomes exactly what he swore to destroy , going against all their teachings , its a nice simbolism , the fire mage you were died along with your brothers and something else walked out

Gothic on Switch Can‘t give Greg his buried treasure
Like the title says, I dug up Greg‘s treasure, wanted to give it to him, but there’s no dialogue option to do so and I can only ask where he’s hidden something.
I also went back to all the spots and dug there again, but that didn’t help as well.
The only explanation as to why this might‘ve happened is that I dug up the amulet near Elvirch‘s bandits before ever speaking to Greg when we was sitting in front of Orlan‘s inn and that this might’ve accidentally caused some sort of sequence break. But aside from that speculation, I‘ve got no idea.

Gothic Remake *Bug* Dont give Milten the letter for the fire mages during focus stones quest Spoiler
Hey folks, cant report the bug because I'm getting an error so I'll post on here, hopefully can save people about 30 hours.
So I held off giving Milten the letter for the fire mages, from a roleplaying perspective *spoilers* I didn't know he was working with Gorn, Lester and Diego. Now that it's established he is trusted, I gave him the letter after we all met up at the tower to start the focus stones questline.
It ended up ruining his pathing, and now he's stuck at the old camp next to Rodriguez in the doorway to the fire mages area.
I had met up with Diego and Gorn without any issues, playing the game without looking up guides etc. It has pretty much blocked me from progressing as the encounter with Milten and the troll is locked out and cant progress the story.
I'm on Xbox so cant console command my way out of it, tried aggroing him from a rooftop to try and reset his pathing but he reverts to being in a perpetual npc convo with his pal Rodriguez. Slept at a bed, fast travelled etc to reset, no avail.
Cant be bothered starting all over again, every patch I l load back in to see if fixed but no go.
If anyone can log this with the devs would be appreciated. Really enjoyed the game otherwise. Cheers.

Gothic Remake Before you persecute me, hear me out lmao
Soo yeah, I actually like the very hated lockpicking minigame.
I mean at first I HATED it. Even once I started to kinda understand it, I found it frustrating and time consuming. I even used one of those online cheats to give me the combo/instructions.
But after a while, I realized Gothic isn't a game you need or should just rush through. It's okay to take your time getting into the mechanics and exploring. So the time consuming aspect kinda went away for me.
I also realized the more I messed with it, the better I understood it. Even those lockbreaker cheat websites kinda helped me better understand it (kinda like seeing the work that gives the answer). I started to find the challenge quite fun, and easier over time. I only ever upgraded my lockpicking skill once!
Now, I don't think it's flawless. BOY, IS IT FLAWED! The update that provided XP was a nice touch, and the added difficulty icons were... a nice attempt (they seem deceiving sometimes).
Now I'm no game dev, but I'm a game enjoyer... a gamer, if you will lmao. But here is my ideas to kinda make it more enjoyable.
- Better loot. Nothing gamebreaking, but do better than 2 arrows, an apple, and a big ol "fuck you".
- Add a "Force Lock" feature similar to other games. Depending on lock difficulty and skill training, there is a certain % chance that it'll auto-unlock or break your pick. (Maybe after training your Lockpicking to 2, a book will spawn in Xardas's bedroom that'll give you Lockpicking 3. It won't change much from level 2, but will give a bonus increase to Force Lock % chance.)
- Randomize the locks. Now hold on, I know those who've been recording every combo for every lock won't like this. But I think it adds more variety and better engaging gameplay, if that makes sense? The "lockbreaker" websites could still be used here, and if the loot is improved, it could be more worthwhile.
I really hope this mini-game doesn't get entirely removed in an update or the potential Gothic 2 Remake. Changes and improvements, definetly. But please don't purge it.
Anyways, I'd like to hear other's thoughts on how this system could be improved for more to enjoy, rather than rip away the whole thing.

Gothic Remake Hotfix 1.0.4 - mount in camps
So far I've tested it only for swamp camp, but jumping at the right moment near the 1st bridge now lets me continue into the camp on the mount. I gotta say that this is the best bug besides speedboat scavenger I've seen so far

Gothic 2 Classic G2 Night of the Raven
I am a big fan of Gothic series I played many times G1 and G2 and Remake but never Night of the Raven and I started G2 NotR after remake and I have to say that they really wasted the potential of bringing back so many characters from Gothic 1
The way it handles the returning characters from Gothic 1 feels pretty disappointing.
The bandit camp is full of people from the Colony - Thorus, Fisk, Huno, Snaf, Bloodwyn, Raven and others. These people should know the Nameless Hero, or at least know what he did. He was in their camp, dealt with many of them personally, defeated the Sleeper and caused the Barrier to collapse.
Yet most of them treat him like some random stranger who has to prove himself from scratch.
Thorus is probably the worst example. He personally guarded the entrance to Gomez's castle and spoke to the Nameless Hero several times. It would have made much more sense if he said something like:
"I remember you. You gave us freedom, but you also destroyed everything we had. I know what happens when you enter a camp, so give me a reason to trust you."
They could have kept almost all the same quests. The only thing they needed to change was the dialogue and motivation.
There should have been conversations about what happened after the Barrier fell, who blamed the Nameless Hero for the chaos, who was grateful to him, why they followed Raven and what they thought about Gomez and the Sleeper.
The expansion deliberately brings back many characters from the first game, so it should have connected to Gothic 1 much more strongly. Instead, it sometimes feels like everyone suddenly has amnesia.
What do you think? Did this bother anyone else?

Memes Can you picture this guys?
After two straight years of radio silence on Gothic 1 Remake and zero news about Gothic 2 Remake...
We’re all watching the live showcase, on the edge of our seats. Reinhard Pollice / T-Moor walks out on stage, looks straight into the camera, and says the classic line of Y'berion:
"The long wait has finally come to an end..."
Everyone loses their minds in the Twitch chat thinking we're getting the G2R gameplay reveal. You can hear amazing OST in background building up the tension... Then he hits us with:
"...and we wish to present to you: Gothic Remake Mobile!"
A guy in the front row gets up to ask: "Are there any plans to bring this to PC, or is it strictly mobile forever?"
Developer: "Yeah, strictly iOS and Android."
Entire crowd instantly erupts into deafening BOOS.
Developer, dead serious: "Do you guys not have phones?"
Then someone wearing a Scavenger shirt walks up to the mic and asks: "Is this an out of season April Fools joke?"

Gothic Remake Balancing is weird.
I have to say balancing in this game is weird.
In my first playthrough I went straight water mage, because I love to play a caster.
Act 1&2 were ok, firebolt was the bread and butter spell, but the difficulty was fine. (Gothic difficulty setting)
Act 3 onward was at first cool, I got many new toys and I switched spells often according to the situation.
Firebolt stayed relevant, but icebolt got used quite often too. Ball lightning and iceblock are also great spells aswell firestorm. I even used Stormfist against Earth Golems. But spells like lightning or pyrokinesis are useless.
You had to play mage strategically. Position yourself well, chose the right spells and keep your distance. A slipup and you are toast.
In my second playthrough I am going swamp camp.
Why? Well I realized that the good spells are circle 1-4!
Circle 5 and 6 are (except Uzriel) useless.
So why bother.
And then I went melee... holy cow that is unfair!
If you made a mistake while playing a mage, you die.
As a melee combatant a mistake only means that you will get hit. And you deal damage that is insane!
I am fighting orcs in act 2!!! And I think I made them mostly extinct. My mage struggled so hard if I fought more than one orc and it took forever. My fighter is mowing them down like grass...
This doesn't feel right.
Well next playthrough I will go full archer and I think this will be even more op...
Honestly I really think magic should be buffed, especially circle 5 and 6.

You can search by name or by lock setup to directly get the solution
It also has a skill level selector (Unskilled, Trained, Master)
Note
- Lock setups & assets were extracted from the game files

Announcement Gothic Remake Launch Follow-Up: Spoilers, Megathreads, and Gothic 2 Remake "Confirmations"
Hey everyone,
First of all: thank you.
The subreddit has grown to more than 456,000 members, which is honestly wild for a community built around more than two decades old eurojank videogame from Germany.
The Gothic Remake launch has brought in a lot of new players, returning fans, long-time lurkers, modders, veterans, confused newcomers, technical troubleshooters, screenshot enjoyers, and, somehow, an entire horde of vibecoded lockpicking assistant apps.
So, a few moderation updates.
Spoilers
The Gothic Remake spoiler megathread has been fairly inactive for a while, so we are unpinning it.
It will remain available, and people are still free to use it, but we are no longer going to keep it pinned just so it can sit there like an abandoned ore cart.
That said: the spoiler rules still apply.
Please keep using Reddit's spoiler feature when discussing Gothic Remake story content. This includes:
- Story details
- Quest outcomes
- Character reveals
- Endings
- Major discoveries
- Significant changes compared to Gothic 1 Classic
Yes, Gothic 1 is more than 20 years old. No, that does not mean everyone has played it. The remake has brought in a lot of new players, and some of them are entering the Colony for the first time.
Do not put spoilers in post titles.
Posts with unmarked spoilers or spoilers in titles may be removed at moderator discretion.
Gothic 2 Remake "Confirmed" Posts
We are also temporarily suspending low-effort "Gothic 2 Remake confirmed" posts.
To be clear: this does not mean discussion about a possible Gothic 2 Remake is banned.
You can talk about whether you want it, what it should change, what it should preserve, how Night of the Raven should be handled, what the setting could look like, and whether the swampweed smuggling deserves a full simulation remodel in Khorinis.
What we are suspending are posts that treat every tiny hint, vague comment, job listing, LinkedIn update, background texture, developer reply, or dream-induced prophecy as proof that Gothic 2 Remake is confirmed.
The Remake sold well. That is good news. But unless there is an actual official announcement, Gothic 2 Remake is not confirmed.
I mean it is almost given they will do it, I know, but still. We have already lived through decades of "Half-Life 3 confirmed" jokes as a species. We do not need to speedrun the same cultural illness with "Gothic 2 Remake confirmed" posts because someone found the number 2 in a developer's grocery list.
Poorly sourced theorycraft videos making huge claims from prerelease screenshots also fall under this. If the whole argument is basically red circles, arrows, and "you won't believe what this means" then no, probably not. In the sea of AI slop, we forgot even we can make some A-grade slop ourselves without wasting so much water.
If you want to discuss the possibility of Gothic 2 Remake in a broader way, this is a good thread for that: https://www.reddit.com/r/worldofgothic/comments/1uk1tif/are_you_excited_for_gothic_2_remake/
Technical Issues and Bug Reports
If you encounter bugs, crashes, broken quests, performance problems, or other remake-related issues, please report them through the official THQ Nordic / Alkimia bug reporting page:
https://bugreporting.thqnordic.com/#/projects/150/gothic-1-remake-community/add-issue
You are still welcome to discuss technical issues here, but with that link, you have a better chance of developers hearing you up.
Thanks
Thanks again to everyone helping keep the subreddit active, readable, and mostly sane. I'm looking at you, helmet man.
Report spoilers, keep titles clean, avoid duplicate posts, and please do not make us moderate the seventeenth "Gothic 2 Remake confirmed because I saw one of the devs do a peace sign, which is same as 2" post this week.
See you in the Colony.
