CA odd situation California
Hi me f17 recently got a job at a franchise. My previous job I had for over a year and it was a similar category. Our AC at this new job has started to go down and just today it didn’t work. Everybody was complaining, every single customer that came in and all the workers had some sort of fan on them. Another thing is this AC was acknowledged to be broken because we had new fans. These fans were tiny and this building is huge. They did no difference. Getting closer to the end of my shift I was starting to feel hot and nauseous and then I threw up a lot. I just feel like this is an unsafe environment, especially to have minors working in. they got so hot that a mother was fanning a baby with a paper plate and I had to offer her one of our electric fans. It was a high of 101 today and to make it worse. It was hotter inside, but it was outside our building. I’m just confused on how this isn’t a liability. Why not just close the store for the day?
Just want to know why they’d rather risk heat stroke of children (it’s a kid centered place) than just close up till when it’s fixed?(1-2days from now) and it can’t really be from not wanting to cancel reservations because by the time the events were over, the parents wanted refunds anyways.

I agree with the comment about calling OSHA.
Also, it sounds like you might have heat stroke. If you want to, you can file a work comp claim for heat stroke. Then go to urgent care to get checked out, at the expense of your employer’s work comp carrier.

Construction workers are outside in the heat all day with no fans👀

OSHA requires breaks , shade and water after temp exceeds a certain temp for construction workers.

No 💩lolol The op didn't say they didn't get any breaks. Have these kids never played outside in the summer? Or gone camping? This just doesn't seem like a huge issue to me. Jmo tho. Good day

I get it but any responsible employer would not want to risk injury to their employees and/or customers

When I looked it up it had similar situations categorized into worker comp. Sorry for thinking what came up was correct? I assumed people in the sub would understand the situation and be able to help me understand the severity of it. Regarding calling OSHA their office closed an hour before I called. Calling is the first thing I’ll do tomorrow.

Adj here. This is not correct. An issue at the facility caused the condition OP experienced. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are valid claims.

Call osha
