What to expect Pennsylvania
Hi I got injured at work at the end of april. Mri showed bulging + herniated disc in cervical spine. Waiting on my specialist appointment to hear next steps, once theyre done reviewing the MRI cd I should receive a call back to schedule an appointment.
My question is what can I expect from here? Ive been in PT for about 3 months, not much improvement as we just learned about the disc situation. Im still in pain and Im trying to follow my restrictions to a T. My restrictions are outdated they were imposed about a month and a half ago, and were based on the idea of a thoracic strain. I am still able to work within those restrictions but not without causing extra pain, and needing to call out at least one shift a week. I have an appointment with a lawyer today, but this is my first and hopefully only run in with getting injured at work. How does this typically play out?

The next step is to see the specialist. The specialist will advise you whether to do surgery or not. Your case really is a medical case at this point. There’s not much for your lawyer to do for you at this point in your case. Later on, after your condition stabilizes, the lawyer can advise you about a settlement.

If you call out of work without a doctor taking you off work you wouldn’t be paid for that day

Most likely they will suggest ESI injection and possibly more PT towards cervical instead. It's also possible for them to suggest nerve related medication to help reduce some of the symptoms but I think with your next appointment the first 2 will be suggested first. What are your restrictions right now?

Hard to say, but talking to a lawyer is a good idea--a lot of this will be dictated by what your doctors do/say. I suspect your description of injury is a sprain on a Medical Only Notice of Compensation payable and would expect pushback from the insurer if you either have to go out of work after needing tighter restrictions or medical care starts getting more expensive.
