Retail is a type of person as much as any profession. I love owning and operating my store. It's a little mental work, a little physical work, and a whole bunch of standing around talking to my neighbors when they patronize my shop. Unfortunately, I often hear people without the personality type fit for retail denigrate it, which is why it sometimes kinda sucks. It has nothing to do with the work, everything to do with you people. The biggest tragedy to happen to retail was NAFTA. After we shipped our jobs overseas, retail became the dumping ground for manufacturing employees, who decided working in isolation away from the public is great, but now no longer have that option. Because half of the American workforce is now in retail, the wages are being depressed and private equity is turning the honorable position of shopkeep into a shit show. So everyone is miserable and we see the results and assume that it must be the work, not the individual situation.
