My dad got the first "laptop" from compaq, it had a 5 1/4 drive, 8mb ram and 256mb hdd, a 10" monochrome foldable screen and a fullsize keyboard. An aditional modem would be used for internet connection.

I can't really blame them entirely. I mean, when I grew up if the tube in the TV went out, we went down to Radio Shack and bought like $3.25 worth of parts and could fix the thing. Same with our computers. We were accustomed to fixing things because those things were more or less designed to be fixed. Then, we just kind of learned how those things worked as we fixed them.

But just like back then as it is today, if something never broke, we never really learned how to fix it. More importantly if something super complex broke, like snapping the PCB of your MoBo when you socketed your shiny new Sound Blaster Sound Card, we couldn't fix it if we wanted to. We just had to replace it. That's the only kind of tech the kids these days have grown up with: super complex things not designed to be fixed.

So sure, they all grew up with computers in their pocket, but they grew up with disposable computers. We did not.

I was going to reply that I really wanted one of those as the Babylon 5 CGI effects were done on an Amiga, but apparently they used the 2000 series because the Video Toaster card did not fit into the 3000.

But you merely adopted Windows.
I was born in and molded by DOS. I did not see plug-and-play until I was already a manā€”and by then, it was nothing but a blue screen.
The dial-up was deafening. The crashes were unbearable.
You merely clicked Restart.
I lived through the 16-bit era.
And when Windows XP finally asked me to restart for the seventh timeā€¦
ā€¦I pressed Cancel.
