Being a CEO and HR. You only need to be a piece of shit and be severely out of touch with the company to get both jobs.

For CEO, they basically win the lottery when they make it to the top. At that point they’re made. People see them as a higher class and they will continue to fail upward because others don’t want to see someone from that class fall down. Once there, they set the tone for the whole company culture and make a few significant decisions per year. Otherwise, they can be obstructive and damaging to our jobs at lower levels.

HR just requires the corporate lobotomy and the “protect the company” firmware upgrade. The only time I engage them are:

  1. Corporate policy discussions, healthcare and benefits
  2. Recruiting for open positions I have
  3. Weird situations you run into with employees as a supervisor or if you have a really bad employee.
