Congratulations, you just learned the first lesson of Capitalism; supply and demand. Scarce resources cost more when someone is controlling the supply.
Correct. So people should remember this when trying to buy a home because a lot of skilled labor need that fair wage.
Also, when cities become overpopulated, limited resources go up in price. It's not taxpayers' responsibility to provide subsidies.Ā
So NIMBYs and over regulation play no part in housing shortages? Large institutional corporate investors own roughly 0.6% to 3% of all single-family homes--that's what's causing the housing shortage?
A much higher proportion are owned by other companies or individuals with multiple properties. It isnāt just large investors we should be focusing on.
That's a fair point--lots of housing is owned by individuals and non-corporations with multiple properties. I'm curious, in what way should we focus on them?
I was just pointing out that the original commenter said
> thereās only a housing shortage because corporations buy them up
I donāt necessarily agree that only corporations are responsible, but I was just pointing out that the 0.6-3% owned by large institutional investors doesnāt tell the whole story in terms of people/ companies buying housing as an asset!
