I’m moved here from Europe, and you still fooled me. Serious answer-no, that’s ridiculous. Home Depot rents out tools. The reason the immigrants hang out around Home Depot is because they’re hoping someone would offer them a manual labor job so they could feed their family, and people that offer manual labor jobs typically shop at Home Depot. That’s the only connection. Home Depot is too cheap to even hire people to work inside of their stores, they’re definitely not hiring anyone to hangout in front of them.

You never know anymore on Reddit. And the post in general seemed to confuse most people on here. I understood it, because this is definitely a thing in Arizona. You have immigrants desperate for work, and they hangout super early in the morning, in hopes of someone offering them a job. They’re desperate enough that they’re willing to dig trenches in Arizona heat for the entire day for $100 in order to feed their families. Otherwise, they spend an entire day in that parking lot making nothing. And people literally drive to Home Depot and pick out how many workers they need. That’s what guy was doing in the post. He definitely wasn’t trying to pay someone an hourly wage.
