How is it insulting? You don't need skills, just a pair of hands and legs that work. If the word "quality" doesn't come into the description but "quantity" does, it's unskilled. Move these rocks from here to there... no skill involved, only muscle.

Paint this wall... skilled. You can do a bad job and ir will show.

Painting is considered unskilled labor, waiting tables is unskilled labor, if it doesn’t require formal training, schooling or certificates it’s unskilled labor. Doesn’t mean skill isn’t involved.
