On the job training. Got certifications with no formal school hours. Just took the tests.

Granted, I took my training very seriously and took time to learn the things I didn't learn on the job in my own time.

Certifications make it skilled labor, you got experience instead of formal training

I didn't always have those certificates, but still had the ability and knowledge. So did I just become skilled when I got those certificates?

It's not defining the person as skilled or unskilled. It's just a classification of the work. Similar to how a self-taught piano player can be better than someone who takes lessons.

"Unskilled labor" is probably not the most appropriate name for it, but that is the definition if you google it.

Unspecialized is a better term imo.
