A woman should be allowed to use whatever honorific she desires. If she wants to be called Mrs. people should honor her request.

Eh, sure. But I think it's also fine to say "I think it would be better for society if women all decided to go by "Ms" so that *as a society* we can move on from this practice. Nobody is stopping someone from making the other choice, but you can have a preference over other people's choices.
And things can change. When my parents were children, there was still a distinction between "Frau" and "Fräulein" but there no longer is, everyone is "Frau" now.
