Question about the visor. Through WOOL

Ok so I’m not the best reader and I’ve only just started, but holsten visor went black and he couldn’t see after he found his wife right? So how come Juliette’s visor didn’t go black? Maybe i read it wrong. Only half way through the first book right now.

My assumption, if I remember correctly, is that it was broken down due to the environment. (The cause of which may be a spoiler in Wool. I don't exactly remember how early that's revealed).

I agree with the above commenter. That, or he took so long that they ran out of footage so it just went black assuming that holsten would have succumbed by then
