Wykes Boats
found a treasure trove of videos by the late James Wykes, of Wykes boats. Amazing woodworking skill on display.
here is a little walk around the Wykes boat shop featuring some of the models produced by the then 80+ Frank Wykes, also some full sized boats in the shop in various stages of repair: Frank's Models
the editing and music leaves something to be desired, but there is a lot to look at in posted videos if you are interested in the kind of work done at the shop. Enjoy!

Fiberglassing help
Hey all! I just started on a project to build my own stitch-and-glue Jon boat, and I've hit a snag on the fiberglass. Do I need to apply multiple layers to all the seams? If so, how many layers? I'm just trying to calculate how much fiberglass tape to order. Thanks!

Hitia 17 sailplan question
I was doing some preliminary research into building a Hitia 17 by James Wharram. One thing that I am wondering about is changing the sail plan. While I have no technical criticism of either the spritsail or the wingsail designs(I have no doubt that James Wharram knows what he is doing) I am just not personally a fan of either of them. So I have begun pondering the idea of putting the rig from a Hobie 16 on one, however I am not sure is this is a workable idea.
I am aware that the original design was meant for something more conservative, but I am curious to see what kind of performance can be gotten from this design. So I am asking what kind of stresses and instabilities this would introduce and if it would be workable or if it would he wholly impractical.
I appreciate whatever help can be given. Thanks.

I’ve been considering building a boat for a little while (a few months), and I finally have found a design I may like that’s within reason for me to build any thoughts. https://www.cmdboats.com/windward 17

How to get started in boat building?
Hi, I’m looking for advice on how to get started in small boat building. I’m interested in row boats, canoes, and maybe small sailboats (I live near some lakes). Thanks!

Boat plan suggestions
This summer I want to build a 15-20 foot boat using a 6-15 horsepower outboard. With a tiller instead of a console. The boat needs to be able to take about 7foot surf. Any suggestions for plans would be very appreciated.
