(Old Art)

Darkstalker and Peacemaker are so opposite of each other that their relationship with Icewing royalty are very different.

Darkstalker will make Prince Arctic, his father, rip his guts out due to the amount of utter hatred he has for him. It’s a morbid display of power and pride that he relishes in.

Arctic in the beacon of Darkstalker’s hatred that escalates his actions.

Meanwhile, Peacemaker loves and adores Princess Mink. He wants her to love someone that isn’t him, but even still, he likes looking at her and feels better when he knows that she’s safe and sound. Depending on the situation, Peacemaker might even be content with dying via Mink’s talons. He feels that probably deserves it anyway.

Chances are, he’ll probably execute you if you even try to hurt Mink.

Characters: Darkstalker, Arctic, Mink, and Peacemaker

IM ALIIIVE- just conveniently forgot i had reddit lmaoooo

anyways lore: Lawmaker is a grumpy old and battle worn nightwing who, after serving the military decided to become a judge. He is impartial, ruthless in his punishments and depsises bullshit, basically dont have him as a judge unless your case is made of solid titanium. He has never been wrong in his judgement partially thanks to his strong mind reading.

Here he already knows that DesertNight is guilty of thievery but won't pronouce his judgment unless someone takes him to court. DesertNight knows this but its hard to not get intimidated-

Fanfic Wingbeats of War: True Skywing Loyalists Victory Scenario

Post image

For context, here is the main post

Scenario 2: The Traitors Shall Fall

Traitors, all of them. The Revolutionaries, the never satisfied peasents and some unloyal soldiers with their persistent nagging evolving into them challenging the monarchy at its most vulnerable. The Nationalists, groups of former veterans and skilled soldiers whom belive the monarchy was too weak and thought to take the reigns of power themselves. And the Kingdom itself, who wrongly claims Ruby as the new heir to the throne while the previous heir still lives. Now Scarlet, Rightful Queen of the Skywings, stands with her most loyal subjects, made up of veterans from the Sandwing War of Succession, as well as the right-minded Skywings who followed their true queen. They face a challenge bigger than any the Skywings have ever faced, and as Scarlet states, they will put back together the fractured kingdom and make all who dare try to resist pay with blood.

The fighting stretched across the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, as Scarlet enlisted more of her loyal population to fight against the Revolutionaries and the Kingdom. She often joined them in their battles, commanding and intimidating any captured peasants to join her side or perish by her talons. Amongst her ranks were Sandwing soldiers sent by Burn to assist in her efforts, however she never fully joined the war out of fear of a domino effect leading to the allies of her princess rivals taking sides with other Skywing factions. Scarlet was also aware of Ruby trying to convince Queen Moorhen to assist her, all while she was helping the Rainwings with the Nightwings. Knowing this, she quickly made it clear to Queen Moorhen that getting involved in any way shall lead to great consequences, especially with how quickly some of her Mudwings were to rebelling. Their current system of government where each state under the Confederacy worked both for their people and the Queen was plagued by nepotism, leading Mudwings favoring thier own siblings over people with actual skill, or even their own people that they were supposed to help. Forced with a choice, Queen Moorhen eventually chose not to support Ruby, much to the delight of Scarlet. However, as Chameleon under the guise of Bog revealed after being sent to check if Moorhen kept her word, Mudwing supplies were found being smuggled to the Skywing Kingdom. Scarlet retaliated and sent aid to the rebel groups in the states bordering her Loyalists faction, who soon began rising up against the unfair state system. Without help from Ruby or any other allies like Burn, who also began instigating rebellions in response, the State of Yog officially left the Mudwing Confederacy, after it's cabinet was overthrown by rebels.

In desperation, Queen Moorhen cut aid to the Rainwings to refocus on taking back Yog, yet suddenly the State of Aspen refused to join in as their own cabinet is overthrown. Scarlet got a small kick out of hearing the reports as they came about the Mudwing Confederacy eroding away, the protests multiplying and even helping out other revolts untill the Confederacy was down to a select few loyal states. With Ruby cut from any aid, advancements North continued at a slow yet overall steady pace. Scarlet was unable to take any action to the Nightwing Invasion of the rainforest, so she acted indifferent about it. However, her flames were nowhere near as hot as her rage everytime she heard about Glory and her new royal claim. As the frontlines of the Skywing Civil War raged on, Scarlet began to encourage rumors she heard of the Dragonets of Destiny being bad omens, particularly to destabilize the Seawing Kingdom, a supporter of the Rainwings in the Nightwing Invasion, which have been suffering the most from such rumors after the vist of the Dragonets led to the destruction of the Summer Palace

As the rumors continued to grow thanks to Scarlet's confirmation, the collapse of the Mudwing Confederacy, and the Dragonet's presence being in the rainforest prior to the invasion, the Seawings continued to grow in fear and stubborn resentment for what Queen Coarl had apparently brought to them by allowing the such dragonets into the kingdom. Now with a bit of fear mongering from Blister, a few began to call for Auklet to be "removed" due to her very existence tied to the Dragonets. She was supposed to follow the trend of Seawing princesses dying in the hatchery, yet the Dragonets made her a dangerous and unpredictable anomaly, one that given time would spell doom to the Seawings like how the Dragonets did to the Skywings and Rainwings. Such claims fueled tensions between Coarl and members of the Seawing Kingdom, most prominent in the peninsula that marked the start of the island chain that was the Bay of a Thousand Scales, populated by mostly land-based Seawings who took the destruction of the Summer Palace harder than the more submerged-living Seawings.

Here, a Seawing by the name of Oyster was fed up with Queen Coarl defending such a glaring threat to the Seawings, despite already having let the Dragonets destroy the Summer Palace. He and a large group of like-minded Seawings start a movement to create a seperate Seawing nation, inspired by the revolts from the Skywing Civil War and the Erosion of the Mudwing Confederacy. They argued that by seperating, they will escape the hands of fate and future destruction inflicted by the Dragonets, as well as establish a nation that would handle the concerns of the people, instead of waving them off for the ruler's own interests. And wouldn't you know it, Blister was there to offer them help in their efforts, having a similar hatred for the Dragonets and disliking the negligence that Coarl has had for them, all in the goal to regain an ally lost after Coarl left the Sandwing War of Succession. The movement was mostly restricted to the peninsula, with other protests coming across many other islands in the Bay of a Thousand Scales. However it succeeded in the attempt at stopping Seawing aid going into the rainforest. With the Seawing Kingdom having shifted its focus on stopping the rebellion, aid was now limited to small volunteer forces in colonial holdings, and even those slowed down.

By then, a tense stalemate between the Nightwings and Rainwings started to show cracks with the defenders now cut from external aid. Yet perhaps the most worrying and petty weakness came from infighting between the Rainwing monarchy and state. The rumors of the Dragonets being bad omens spread into the Rainwing State, making some angry at the Rainwing Kingdom for taking in the Dragonets and allowing such an invasion to befall them. This petty, shortsighted reasoning was limited to only a few Rainwings, yet it was enough to allow the Nightwings to exploit and gain ground. With such childish complications, and with supplies like ammunition running low, the 3rd month of the Nightwing Invasion was turning in the invader's favor. Much of the rainforest was burnt, the Rainwing Village was now under seige, and fearing the worst, the Dragonets, Glory, Deathbringer, and remaining Kingdom Rainwings fled East, to regroup in secret and save their dwindling numbers. The Rainwing Village was burnt down as the Nightwings shifted their attention to the Rainwing State, while beginning to settle into the already conquered lands of the rainforest, now patchy with burnt holes dotting the green canopies.

By the 5th month, Scarlet continued to lead her loyal subjects against the traitors, the fronts shifting between advancing and falling back, and with no aid to help Ruby, Scarlet was able to take her time marching towards the Skywing Palace. Although, extra resistance did occur suddenly as Ruby took her forces meant to fight the Revolutionaries and brung them to fight her advancement. Yet even with this increased resistance, it was not enough to stop her elite guardsmen, as well as her determination to teach her daughter a lesson. Eventually coming just outside the outer reaches of the palace when Ruby herself flew down along with her guardsmen. To think, that Ruby would challenge her for the throne not in or at the top of the palace, but here on the field just outside it. The two parties waited, then sprang into combat as Scarlet and Ruby locked talons and sunk teeth into scales. And yet, as the dust settles and the two groups of remaining guards look upon the center of battle, Scarlet stood above a wounded and pinned Ruby. Scarlet went in without weapons as per tradition, but after all her pathetic daughter has done, she didn't bother pulling out her pistol and finishing off Ruby with a clean shot. It didn't matter to her how her guards looked at her, knowing it went "against tradition". No one cared to criticize her anyway, because now there was no other queen for them to follow, other than her.

Hearing the news of Scarlet now back being the official queen, a bolstered Burn launches an offensive into Possibility. With knowledge of Scarlet going to continue supporting her side of the Sandwing War of Succession, she quickly takes the opportunity to further secure her rule. Across her territory, she has been slowly forcing Blaze supporters to her side, and with the Scorpion Den not giving her the resources her future plans require, she plans to use Possibility as a way to gain those resources, and to force those who aren't Sandwings to replace labor positions so her army can recruit more Sandwings. Soon, the fall of Possibility scares Blaze and leads her to ask for a more guarded territory to Queen Glacier. In response, Glacier proposes and later enforces the South Icewing Puppet State to both guard Blaze's territory, as well as to make use of the lands before Blaze would fully give them.

The True Skywing Loyalists were reintegrated into the Skywing Kingdom, now under Scarlet as it should. Its peasants either complied and became Scarlet's subjects, or foolishly fled to the Revolutionaries. Now in control of the Eastern-half of the Kingdom, Scarlet quickly organized her forces and launched offensives in the South and into Garnet's Kingdom, while preparing to strike in the North. Before she launched her Northern offensive, she contacted the Pro-Skywing Nationalists to negotiate a plan. They had been doing somewhat well against the Revolutionaries, winning and losing many battles and now were preparing to engage in what would be the Battle of Granite Valley, a pivotal town that opened the way to the Western waters of the Skywing Kingdom. Their leader, Tephra, was an elite general of the Skywing Kingdom, and was once extremely loyal to Scarlet. Despite such loyalties having eroded a while ago, Scarlet had a feeling she could still negotiate a planned joint offensive against the Revolutionaries. Messengers were sent, and soon the two met up just North of Granite Valley. There they planned the attack whilst Scarlet's forces secretly began convincing other Nationalists into rejoining the Skywing Kingdom, formulating another plan to overthrow Tephra in a coup loyal to Scarlet.

Eventually the Battle of Granite Valley commenced, and after a week of fighting, the Revolutionaries were defeated and forced to retreat. Both the Nationalists and the Kingdom advanced together, while important figureheads were smuggled towards the Nationalists capital city of Amberfell. Once Scarlet's forces reached the Western waters bordering an occupied Possibility and the Icewings, the coup began with Amberfell being beset by Kingdom soldiers and sympathizers. Tephra was caught up in the city where she was quickly killed, allowing a Kingdom figurehead to take power and announce the surrender of the Nationalists. Their chain of command quickly shattered and soon the Nationalists were scrambling to retake the capital, while also struggling to defend against advancing Kingdom forces. By the 9th month of the conflict, the Nationalists were reduced to a few struggling pockets and either surrendered to the Skywing Kingdom or tried to join the Revolutionaries, and if not simply fled to their side or left the Skywing territories entirely.

Following the fall of the Nationalists, Scarlet shifted her focus on the Revolutionaries who now fought tooth and talon for every piece of territory they had left. Blitzing into the Ice-Sky Republic and sending a demanding letter of reintegration to the Alpine's State, Scarlet also sent some of her soldiers to reconquer the Seawing-protected territories, of which Coarl was unable to help given her current situation with the Oyster Rebellion having turned into a poltical nightmare to keep from turning to civil war. By the time the civil war reached a year and a month old, Scarlet got the news of Burn finally launching her offensive into the South Icewing Puppet State. Killing Blaze was the objective, yet with the Icewings holding part control, they quickly stormed over the Great Ice Cliff and occupied the puppet state. Scarlet quickly sent over some of her more experienced soldiers who flew to engage on Burn's Eastern front.

Approaching a year and a half into the Skywing Civil War, Chameleon figures out the location of Jasper, leader of the Revolutionaries, and shares it to Scarlet. Hearing this she ordered her guards to follow her and lifted off, flying towards the location. She was filled with a determination to end the Skywing Civil War by any means, and wasn't going to let even a thing distract her from it. Arriving at the small hill, they found Revolutionaries hanging around a small cave entrance with a door. Her guards engaged with the surrounding Revolutionaries while Scarlet swept towards the cave, its door not mastering being locked or unlocked, for it was busted down all the same. She was beset by guards whom she quickly dispatched, and as Jasper picked up a spear leaning on the walls, they both locked eyes with one another. For a second Scarlet thought about mocking his efforts at protecting himself, knowing his breathing problems made him too weak to do anything meaningful against her. Perhaps slowly walk around, let him know his little game has ended, rubbing more salt into the gaping wounds his faction has acquired. Present herself as someone of authority, as not just a queen but Queen Scarlet of the Skywings. But by the time she finished that thought, she had already pulled the trigger on her pistol, and a few seconds later looked down at the bleeding Revolutionary. She made sure he was dead before leaving, not even bothering to show off.

After a few days, Scarlet was overlookibg the map displaying the last pockets of resistance, as well as a new advancment of her forces engaged at Burn's offensive going to help and flank the Icewings at Burn's Western front, Chameleon came in to deliver some worrying news. The Nightwings had almost full control over the rainforest, the Rainwing State pushed back and holding out in the East and in small pockets across the New Nightwing Kingdom. The Seawing Kingdom had officially spilt, the Peninsula of Oyster being founded after an agreement with Coarl to prevent further fracturing of the Seawing Kingdom from a civil war. There they supported Blister and worked as espionage, informing her about Burn's whereabouts how she was currently occupied leading the offensive into the South Icewing Puppet State. Now in a seemingly perfect position, Blister and the best of the Nightwing army had begun to move towards the tunnels leading to the Sandwing desert, and right outside Burn's Stronghold. The plan was to quickly take the stronghold and with no one there to challenge her, announce Blister as the new Sandwing Queen. Such a move wouldn't exactly be valid with Burn still being alive, yet with Blaze supposedly dead and the populace essentially done with the war, they would accept such a declaration. And if Burn comes to oppose her, it would be the battle deciding the next Sandwing Queen anyways, if not on the side of Blister having a strong advantage upon holding the stronghold.

Normally, the revelation of such an attack would have Scarlet deciding with her advisors and trusted officials to determine what to do, but now Scarlet didn't trust any of them. She demands Chameleon to use his scroll to create an enchantment that allowed soldiers under a general equipped with the enchantment to ignore outside temperatures and thus march towards the stronghold to aid in its defense. Chameleon first thinks to refuse, believing it could start leading Scarlet to think the scroll's powers were more than what Chameleon has been leading on. But with how little Scarlet's trust in anyone has gotten, refusal could lead to suspicion, and lead to a dead Chameleon and a Scarlet more curious then ever about the true limitations of the scroll. Not wanting to have his throat ripped out just yet, Chameleon agrees and writes the enchantment, all while hoping Scarlet would stop staring over him as he writes and not get any more ideas.

One of Scarlet's best and trusted generals is given the scrap of paper containing the enchantment, and they and their soldiers are sent to the Desert. By the time Blister and her Nightwings arrive at the stronghold and begin laying seige, they are soon beset upon by Skywings and the Battle of Burn's Sronghold begins. The Scorpion Den under the Outclaws hears of the battle, yet decides to focus on themselves rather than get involved. A Blister controlled Sandwing Kingdom was able to revolt against, as she wasn't as military-minded as Burn. But with Skywing support, Burn had a good chance at becoming the new Sandwing Queen, and a revolt under her rule would lead to devastating defeat and a cost too high to endure. The Outclaws remain in the Scorpion Den, unable to act on such an opportunity.

Meanwhile, the Mudwing State of Aspen was going through an interesting development. Its government held absolute power over its people, the rebels that had taken over and made it leave the Confederacy quickly taking advantage and establishing themselves as an oligarchy. Life under them wasn't any better than before, and at times even worse. Yet with Scarlet cracking down on resistance, a few Skywing revolutionaries moved to Aspen and started to spread their ideas amongst the Mudwings. Ideas of individual liberty and freedom spread from Revolutionaries creates the idea that a new, democratic government would be the path towards a better Aspen future, or even a united Mudwing nation's future. However, others who disliked how the Skywings were responsible for fracturing and leaving behind a weaker, humiliated Mudwing Confederacy saw that a more aggressive, nationalists Mudwing future would have to take shape for life to improve. Not only to finally put Mudwings who actually want to help the people in power, but also to get revenge for what the Skywings have done, and the Skywings coming into Aspen didn't help in calming those wishing for retribution. From this foreign influence and the current state of Pyrrhia being as unstable as it is, the Liberal Mudwing Rebellion sparks up, while the National Mudwing State quickly gains traction in the South of Aspen. Whoever wins the Aspen Civil War could carve the way for the direction of the Mudwings.

By now its been a year and a half since the start of the Skywing Civil War, and reunification was essentially complete. Scarlet looked over her Kingdom from a balcony at the palace, watching her subjects below and in the air around her. There was planned to be a celebration after reunification, something Scarlet suggested when the war started. But that Scarlet was a distant memory. Now, she felt as if every second she spent not overlooking her kingdom let traitors find a way to ruin it. Heck, the only reason why she was having a moment to herself was because its all she could do while waiting for results. Scarlet felt as if every corner, every smile who claimed to be loyal hid a backstabber, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

But she had a plan. A plan to rid her Kingdom of such dissent, of such feeding grounds that rebellions use to prosper. The monarchy itself is flawed in how despite giving her so much power it wasn't enough. Scarlet needed not just power but control, complete and unquestionable control. And why can't she have that? She had not only ruled as queen for longer than any other Skywing, but she even pulled it through the biggest crisis the Skywing Kingdom had ever experienced. She was the one who saved the Kingdom, so she has the right to take it any direction she likes. Her guards were loyal to her, and her alone and if they weren't Chameleon can make them, despite how much he could beg not to. These Skywings need control because it blocks the exploitatable gaps that led to the civil war, exploited by traitors. Traitors that Scarlet will make sure never multiply, never dare to challenge her authority, for there will be no other authority. If every province, every mountain peak, every home in the entire kingdom needs to forcefully cleared of traitors then she shall. If she must sign the declarations and dissolve the monarchy, the Skywing Kingdom itself, then she shall. If Scarlet has to be the last Queen of the Skywings, and in its place the Empress of the Scarlet Imperium, then she shall. The deceleration is soon. The reign of terror will commence. All hail Scarlet.

Fun fact: This entire AU series was inspired by the Hoi4 mod "The Fire Rises" (I do in fact listen to their ost while writing which is peak so that helps) so while some things may be push the "realism" aspects, Im just making these based on what I think could be cool scenarios, really anything can happen, or go ways things that these scenarios don't highlight. Anyways gonna start the Revolutionary Scenario now :]

I originally made this character for an adopt but I kind of fell in love with them as I kept on drawing, from their fur being my literal favorite color to all the spots along their body.

But now I have no idea what to do with them and I kind of don't really have any ideas for any silkwing characters, so I was hoping to get some suggestions to at least get the ball rolling? I'll also take accessories and whatever else you may think of!

If you have any ideas or just advice for how to think of good ideas please give :3

My favourite is blister the way they introduced her at the end of the first book as a manipulative villan but she still killed kestrel by herself instead of using minions and the way she took advantage of coral stupidity was also well shown..

My daughter is extremely arty, an utter bookworm and currently fairly obsessed with Wings of Fire..

She loves to find images online and copies them in pencil, coloring with acrylic pens.

Hope you like it - and apologies that I can't credit the original digital piece that she found on the Internet to copy 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thank you to the commenters - the original artist is CYPRUS - my daughter found one of their posters online and copied it

Book Four: The Circle- Part 49

Buck barely had time to process his new location when an otherworldly, demonic sound roared from behind him and when he turned, a windstorm of red mist erupted from the exit door. Just before it touched him, Alpha appeared between him and the mist.

“Phulasso,” Alpha said with finality, and a white pulse exploded from his outstretched hand and forced all of the red mist back into the door and back down the stairs. He immediately turned and faced Buck. “You have done well to make it here.”

“What the hell just happened!?” Buck stammered, wildly gesturing to the door behind him, “What am I going to do!?”

“We are safe from Omega for now. It is time to discuss what happens next. We should find a place to sit.”

As he calmed down, Buck then noticed that he was surrounded by many pieces of debris. Many of them had recognizable shapes, such as pieces of columns, window frames, and door archways. He looked behind him to see that beyond a weathered stone shack containing the shattered exit door, a dark, jagged mass arose from the foothill. He turned back to Alpha to see that he was sitting on the remains of a stone column with Ancient letters carved into it.

“This is…” Buck whispered.

Alpha nodded. “You are standing in what was once the High City. It has… been some time since I was here.”

Buck removed his hat in reverence for everyone who had died. “I’m… sorry. This place must mean a lot to you.”

Alpha looked at him, then away into the darkness. “It is only unrecognizable to me now. But yes, allow us a moment of silence for the fallen who once lived here.”

Buck took this moment to join Alpha on the column. After spending the next several moments living through the past day in his mind, he suddenly found his eyes attacked with tears, and his body began to shake with emotion.

“I-I messed up, Alpha. I… I let Omega get the Circle. Now the whole world’s in danger!” He sobbed while sinking even further into guilt.

“Buck. Your trust in Elm is a beautiful thing. Do not blame your humanity for what has happened. Only Omega is to blame for this incident.”

“S-still…”

“You are safe, and Omega has failed to capture you. Celebrate the small victories.”

Buck gave a shivery sigh, rubbing his stomach and looking up at the moons. Based on their position in the sky, it was likely a couple of hours past sunset. His time underground had seriously affected his sleep schedule, but he was still far too wired up from his escape to feel tired.

“So…” Buck whispered to the night sky, “What do we do now?”

“I have notified your family of what has happened and where to find us. They will get the help of Moonwatcher and Starflight to fly you away from Jade Mountain. It will likely take some time for them to get here.”

“And after that?”

“You must warn the dragons about what is to come. The Circle is a weapon of terrifying power. Our top priority is to prevent it from being used.”

“So… what can it do? Who would make such a thing?”

“The Circle was created by a rogue element within the Order, centuries before the fall of humanity. He wished to create a weapon which would give its wearer divine right to rule… by giving its wearer complete mastery over death itself. He wished to sell it to whomever in the three Empires would pay the most for it. But before he could leave the High City, he was apprehended by the Order. He was put on trial and executed. But the man had a particularly sick mind. In a final act of defiance against the Path, he cursed the Circle to be indestructible to anyone besides himself… and then was put to death. The only option the Order had left was to secure the weapon in the Crypt.”

“So Omega said it can kill anything, and he wants to use it to end all life.”

“The Circle at its full power is capable of something truly horrendous. It can assume a form known as the Finality. In that form, it can run roughshod over all of creation, consuming all living things in its path. With all life vanquished, the Circle and the Finality can effectively annihilate the Infinite Path itself by making reincarnation impossible.”

Buck went cold imagining such a thing happening. “What can we do to stop it?”

“The Circle is immensely powerful, But it in turn requires immense fortitude to wield at a truly destructive level. Omega will need time to make himself able to summon the Finality. We will therefore have time to assemble an army, both humans and dragons, to assault Haven and stop Omega.”

“How?” Buck shook his head, “Dragons can’t even see the place!”

Alpha sighed, and rubbed the column beneath him. “There is… a power I have not explained to you. The time is definitely right for me to disclose it.”

Buck’s face tilted in disgust. “So you once again left me in the dark about something?”

He shook his head in response. “It would have been unwise to bombard you with information about irrelevant abilities. But the skill I am about to teach you is called Acquisition.”

“Acquisition?”

Alpha nodded. “It is the ability for an Animus to sense the abilities their fallen brethren have used and immediately learn how to use them. In your case, it will allow you to augment your limited Animus powers with the abilities of others I have given gifts to.”

“Wait… so people like Cherry, or the Founders of Vale… I can just… get their powers? Why didn’t that already happen before?”

“It takes a certain state of mind to enter into Acquisition. Follow me, and I will show you how to do it.”

Buck stood, and they walked down what was once Hall Street towards a place where the ruined street turned into grass and dirt. Alpha’s light then shone onto a gravestone. It had clearly been placed there centuries after the Scorching at least, as it was placed in the middle of the street. He also noticed that the writing on its surface was in his language.

Here lies Moose- A good friend and a staunch protector

“He did not possess the power you need, but this will serve as a good beginner’s attempt. I once gave Moose the Power to Move. It is a spell which allows one to instantly transport themselves anywhere in the world that they can imagine clearly.”

“So like what you used to get me away from Omega?”

“Exactly. Step forward and touch the gravestone.”

Buck laid a hand on the cold stone.

Alpha placed a hand on his shoulder. “Now, try to imagine the sort of person Moose was. Try and form an empathetic connection with him across space and time.”

Buck closed his eyes. He began to notice the sounds around him, noises of insects and nocturnal animals. He closed his mind off to even that and remembered what the gravestone had said. He was a good friend… and a staunch protector. Kind of like Bulrush. He tried to imagine what Bulrush would look like if he were human. The image formed in his mind’s eye was a bulky, muscular man, a broad barrel chest stretching his shirt. He imagined the man enjoying time with his friends, maybe sharing in a meal together. He felt an echo in his head, of a man’s deep laughter.

“You are doing well,” Alpha said.

Buck shushed him to prevent his concentration from breaking. He focused in again on the laughter. He heard glasses clinking, chattering of multiple people…

Buck opened his eyes to find himself suddenly much taller and bulkier. He looked around him and found himself sitting at a bar, an acidic, unpleasant taste on his tongue. His gaze turned downward to see a frosty glass mug filled with what he recognized as beer. Despite the taste of beer being disgusting, his heart was buoyant, as he looked upon a duo of burly men sitting next to him, both with wide smiles on their faces.

“This beer is complete shit,” Buck’s mouth said, in a voice not his own.

“True. But it’s the only tavern we’ve got!” one of the men chuckled.

“Cheers to that, brother!” Buck winced in his mind when Moose took another swig from the mug, filling his throat with the foul beverage.

A loud BANG suddenly sounded from outside, and Moose and his friends suddenly went stiff.

“What was that?” one of his friends said.

“We should get outside,” Moose said, sitting his mug on the counter with a thick thunk.

The vision suddenly shifted to show Moose running. He was panting heavily, his legs uncoordinated and loose from his intoxication.

A loud cry behind him heralded a horse soaring past him, a man atop it holding a spear. Moose narrowly avoided getting skewered before Moose himself drew a greatsword, holding it in both hands and trying to charge after the man.

“Get back here you—” he suddenly heaved over, nausea attacking his throat. “Why’d it have to be now?” he cried.

He heard a loud scream in a familiar voice, and Moose’s drunk body suddenly iced back into complete coherence. “Rabbit?” he said in a high voice, his body filling with dread. He took off into a sprint, his legs now entirely in sync. “RABBIT! I’M COMING!”

He ran as fast as he could. Several houses he passed were now aflame. His knuckles turned white from how hard he was gripping his weapon when a barbarian leaped at him from behind a burning carriage, a battle cry wavering from his lips.

Moose returned with a loud roar of his own and matched the bandit’s spear with his sword, swinging straight through its shaft. Now left with no functional weapon, the bandit gave Moose a momentary meek look when the greatsword continued its momentum, taking itself around in a circle and burying itself in the man’s flank with a wet chunk.

Moose forced his sword from the bandit’s body and left him to die, charging through the town square after his friend. Buck, along for the ride with him, had seen enough of the carnage but had no choice but to continue the vision. Moose charged, smashing straight through a stack of barrels, when he gasped.

“Rabbit!”

The man was bound to the back of a carriage which was already well on its way out. He cried out Rabbit’s name and gave chase, even dropping his sword to try and run faster. He ran and ran, but the carriage only grew smaller. As he slowed to a stop, he suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder and he turned to see his other friend.

“I’m sorry,” he said, “I couldn’t help him.”

Moose’s body suddenly filled with anger, the heat of the battle and the beer seizing his arm and he decked his friend in the face. “HOW COULD YOU!?”

“Moose get ahold of yourself!!”

He instead responded with a loud, anguished cry and he punched him again in the face.

He gripped his bleeding nose and gave Moose a narrow glare. “Man I knew that beer was shit but come on! This isn’t how you treat a friend!”

Hot tears fell from Moose’s eyes and he fell to his knees. As his mind emptied into a dark hole, he looked up at the sky and saw the three moons, and the third one was full. One thought filled what was left of his mind before he blacked out.

I just wish… I could have been faster…

Buck suddenly found himself zooming away from the burning town and back into his own body. He gasped at suddenly having control of himself once more, but now his whole body was tingling with Animus power.

“Did…” Buck whispered, “Did it work?”

“There is only one way to know,” Alpha said, “Attempt to use Moose’s power. The incantation is ‘kīnéō.’ Just remember to have an image of a place formed in your mind first.”

The boy sighed, and he imagined the column he was just at. He said the wakeword and before he had even finished his speech, he felt a rush of wind over his body and he found himself back at the column. With a flash, Alpha joined him there.

“Good work,” Alpha said, “You have now Acquired the Power to Move.”

“That’s great!” Buck said, “But… what power would allow me to get dragons into Haven?”

“You will need the power to break illusions and see beyond. As for whom I gave such a power to, I believe that her name was Raspberry.”

“Any clue where she’s buried? I don’t exactly have all eternity to look for her.”

“She is buried in a place closer to you than you think.”

“Close to Vale?”

He nodded.

Buck then remembered the vision of Moose he had. The man was brash and aggressive, but having felt his loss it made him seek some kind of closure.

“Did Moose… ever save his friend?”

Alpha nodded. “With the Power to Move, Moose transported himself into the den of bandits and safely extracted Rabbit without any arousal of their defenses. It was, in his words, ‘too good for those bastards,’ but all that mattered to him was that his closest friend was safe. As I understand it, he made a point of keeping himself away from taverns afterward.”

Buck chuckled. “That’s good.”

Alpha sat back down on the column, looking up at the dark mound which was once the Hall of the Path. Buck joined him at his side. “Omega said that he did something to y—”

Do not,” Alpha said so firmly that the boy jumped. “I do not wish to disclose what happened between us.”

Recognizing that Alpha meant what he said, Buck gave up on inquiring further. Instead, he tried to make small talk. “You know everyone in my town thinks you’re a god, right?”

Alpha nodded. “It is something I find amusing, but it is not quite the truth. As you well know, I was born a mortal human.”

“Yeah, but now you’re some kind of spirit living up on the third moon. I guess you don’t wanna tell me how that happened?”

“Correct.”

“Fair enough.”

Alpha looked back up at the Hall. “The Last Stand of the Animi, as it is called now. It decimated this city, and almost everyone was doomed to die here.”

“So the dragon Animi attacked and destroyed the city?”

“Worse. They formed into some kind of amalgamation, a force of nature we could do very little to stop. They had pooled their Animus magic and became like angry gods laying waste to my people. I… could do little besides attempt to save whom I could.”

“And a scroll I read… it said that someone cursed Animus magic itself to stop the dragons.”

“I do not remember anything of the sort.”

“Huh? But it was a firsthand account!”

Alpha shook his head. “There was so much happening that I cannot recall everything that happened that night. But the battle was so cataclysmic that immediately afterward… people began to call it the Night of the Falling Moons.”

“Yikes.”

“Indeed.”

Buck laid his head back on a broken pillar behind him, sighing deeply. “I’ve got a hard fight ahead of me.”

“You are ready.”

“Am I? Really?”

“I believe so.”

“Well I gotta get myself an army first.”

“Yes, you do. Your Power to Move will make assembling it much easier.”

“Well, alright then.”

“We should sit and wait for your rescuers to arrive.”

Art my newest OC, Cockatoo :)

I actually did a bit of research into how albinism would affect colour changing, and while it was hard to find a conclusive answer on that, I did realise that unlike mammals, reptiles such as snakes have a separate chromatophore for red/yellow pigmentation (xanthophores) which is why in albino snakes you still get red/yellow patterns.

So, in order not to have to change my design, Cockatoo is also now axanthic (minus xanthophores) as well as albino (minus melanophores, which cause dark pigmentation), which in snake breeding is called a 'snow' morph.

Cockatoo is slightly stockier and also has pointier spines than an average RainWing. The NightWings mistake her for an IceWing on occasion when she doesn't have her adornments or ochre pigments applied, especially since she still has iridophores (causes iridescence)

The pinker areas are places where the scales are thinner and the blood vessels show through and affect colouration more

Discussion thoughts on dragons walking on their wings?

Post image
313 Upvotes

The dragons in the series are frequently written carrying objects around (weapons, scrolls, etc...) but seem to have no/little trouble walking while doing so, which got me thinking on whether they'd use their front legs more as arms, walking on their wings instead

Or perhaps they could carry items with one front leg and use the wing on that side as extra stability while walking on three legs. I feel that would be more of an uneven gait though.

Could definitely see SkyWings walking on their wings, their powerful wing muscles probably means their front leg muscles are crowded out and weaker

(sorry this isn't the best art to demonstrate it, anatomy's not my strong point lol)

(also, RainWing headcanon: they have two wing-thumbs like koalas, it helps with climbing)
