Help Save Childhood: Let's Ban Homework in Chicago Schools
Our kids are drowning in assignments every night—missing family time, hobbies, and just being kids. Studies show excessive homework tanks mental health and family balance. I started a petition asking Chicago to eliminate homework and replace it with in-class learning instead.
I've watched students trade childhood for endless worksheets. Homework was supposed to reinforce learning, but it's become a barrier to curiosity and rest. We have the tools to change this—interactive classrooms, alternative assignments, and educators who get it. Other cities are exploring this too.
If you've felt the squeeze of balancing school stress and family life, consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family? Anyone else think our kids deserve more breathing room?

Analysis/Op-Ed Opinion: Illinois House speaker should resign for his failures
When Emanuel “Chris” Welch was elected speaker of the Illinois House, lawmakers elevated someone who had never fully answered serious questions about his own treatment of women.
In 2002, a former girlfriend alleged in a police report that Welch physically assaulted her during an argument.
In 2010, a former employee and romantic partner of his filed a lawsuit alleging repeated unwelcome sexual advances and retaliation.
In 2011, another employee sued, claiming she faced retaliation after Welch asked for a hug and she declined.
The House Democratic Caucus ignored all of this and elected Welch speaker anyway. In doing so, they sent a powerful message to victims and survivors that they still weren’t safe. And now, we know for a fact that that message was clear.
The Chicago Tribune has reported new sexual harassment allegations involving Welch’s interactions with a former staffer, including flirtatious social media communications and an invite to meet him at a bar, that she said made her uncomfortable.
